Thank you! Our ancient electric stove just died this week and we're looking to buy a replacement. We've been happy with the coil top ranges, so we're looking to just do a simple replacement. They are VERY few and far between these days.
I’ve had two coil ranges a glass flat top range, and two gas ranges. I prefer the coil top ranges. With the flat glass top, your pans need be perfectly flat to insure even heating I found that gas burners are slower heating than my old coil range. The space between the flame and the pan on a gas top range makes the kitchen hot. I like the coil best. I make sure than my pan covers the coil so no coils are exposed, all the heat goes into the pan.
Good video, appreciate your expertise and presentation. However, the music is very annoying, too loud--drowns out your voice and I really have to struggle to understand what you're saying. Finally I just resorted to close captions so I could read what you're saying. In future, maybe you could lower the volume of your music? It's a distraction. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thank you for spelling out the problem. You are not alone on this. Where this fad of background noise came from I don't know. Anyone who uses it should listen to their own video.
Another thing to mention, my brother lived in a house for a couple years that had a glass top, and he showed me chips and scratches galore. He said just about every time he fried or sautéed, the cast iron skillets would scratch or chip the glass.
Unfortunately they no longer make coil burner cooktops that are built into the counter. I had to replace my choice was even an induction glass top. It was the only one they had that would fit in an existing cut out
@@robertknight4672 The new coil burner ranges are all made cheaply. I wouldn't waste my money on them. The only sturdy ranges are all glass tops. And as I mentioned above, I hate glass tops. So, I have now gone 17 months without a range because I refuse to give in and buy something I don't want. My sturdy coil burner range made in the '80s died last June. And I can't find another one like it.
@@bmcdonald7303I just bought a nice old coil stove I’ve had my ceramic top stove for quite a few years and have had a love hate relationship with it plus I didn’t want any kind of digital type stuff told hubby I wanted an old regular stove plus I like to can and those ceramic type stoves aren’t trustworthy
glass tops are definitely NOT easier to clean. they're a pain to clean and even worse for cooking on. I'd take a coil top any day over a glasstop. Glass tops are for people who don't actually cook, but want the kitchen to look sleek. If you actually cook, avoid a glass top like the plague.
Do glass stove tops burning element turn off while cooking g to maintain the desired temp? I got a used one and testing out the burner I saw it glow like it’s supposed to then after 30 seconds or so it turned black again
My glass top stove 1 year 1 month old top cracked. No reason. To replace top GE is $800.00 more than what I paid for the stove. Can not find just a top to replace it unless I want to pay $800.00. Looking at junk yards scratch and dents for tops. No luck, I will never buy one again going back to Coil. Easy replaceable down the road if needed. G E will not replace it. Never deal with GE again. No satisfaction for GE. Too bad most places in Florida sell mainly GE products.,
Wow! I didn't know that Cast Iron and Mild Steels had hardnesses above 6! I also had no idea that glass-ceramics didn't work as they were enginereed to! It's definitely not the material that is abrading your pans and leaving removable metal marks on it!
I’ve hated my ceramic top stove since getting it I thought i really wanted the newest type of a new stove years ago had some minor issues with it since having it the two big burners don’t regulate anymore they stay in full blast so I started searching for just an old coil top stove!! Found one yesterday used with no digital anything just plain old fashioned stove. When I was describing to the used appliance guy he said let me guess it’s a fridgadair I said yep and he said they were known for that!!!🤬🤬🤬
I do not like the coil burners, I got rid of the ones I had and ordered burners WITHOUT the coil. When cooking on the burner with the coil top the heat would get low and when cooking certain things the heat had to be the same as in boiling.
Coil stoves have an oven vent through one of the burners. That burner can get massively hot when the oven is on. Also, the surface of the cooktop gets real hot when the oven is on. Your music is too loud and can't hear everything you say.
Accidently cracked the glass on mine, replacement glass costs almost as much as a new range (and that is installing myself). Still trying to decide. Kind of wanted to go induction, but breaking glass again makes me nervous. Seems like replacement glass should be like $100, maybe $200 tops, not 400+; ohwell
double the price for something that takes twice as long to cook with lol...I cant stand mine, constantly WAITING for enough heat, what is the dam point of these useless things ? a flat peice of glass lol ? really I cant think of 1 positive

Your gas stove must've been really bad.. Mine barely puts any heat into the air and cooks FAST

My grandmother told me you could put a brand new skillet on a glass top range and it’d leave a scratch.

Canning would be a great thing to mention in favor of the coil top.
Yes! I’m going to buy another older stove so I can still can my garden veggies and meat.

@@Cthomas5678 Yeah having a bunch of digital stuff is just a bad idea.
Why do you say coil tops are better for canning? I don't see why that might be the case.

Thank you for sharing, this was very helpful 👏🙂
Give me a glass top or gas stove ANY DAY over a coil top.
I had no idea the coil burners would be such a problem so I went to Amazon and ordered burners without the coil top.
@@WillaCunningham-j6z and how did it work without the coil???
Gas and coil top any day. Glass top looks ugly and is hard to clean
Thanks for the information.
thanks, i really needed this video

Your unit is power limited due to having a lower amperage design.
Going back to Coil one ....
After 2 flat top ... Cracked glass top, expensive elements replacement !
Hey unreqyested video advice here. Skip the background music. It's super annoying and makes it very hard for hearing impaired viewers. Thanks!
Amen!
The number one complaint seen is get rid of music. Annoying and many cannot hear. Seen this in all videos with music and talking.
Can i use glass cooking pots in glass top stoves?

If a glass top takes longer to heat up, how does that save energy?
Glass top might be slower to heat up but it traps the heat and you are using most of it. Coil ones loose a lot of the heat to the air.

The music over powered the voice. Useful information but very annoying to watch and try to hear.
very fine grit sandpaper can get you stove stains out. Very fine grit.
Please cut the music..
Clean glass top stove before and after use. Add polish on it weekly. Stove polish.
Music to loud
Went from a multiple glass tops to coils. These things are on steroids compared to my old stoves.
Coil top is a pain to clean! I can't wait until I replace my 1980s cooking range that came with my kitchen.
Gas rocks. Glass is just to maintenance unfriendly. imo I have had all three over the years.
agreed. Gas cooks the best and is the most efficent too
Glass tops scratches using iron skillets or shuffling pots and pans around.
