    Overcooking food also creates AGE's, cook meats at a low temperature and make sure it doesn't become brown. It's best to just kill the bacteria on the meat and eat as rare as possible, except for meats that can contain parasites.

      you mentioned parasites at the end. the idea that parasites are bad for you is a myth. if the animal is healthy it will have healthy parasites that support their host in return for being fed. theres some pretty interesting studies done where parasites were shown to cure people of serious diseases without any adverse side effects. it explains why parasites are a natural part of so many animals biology

I am 43yrs old and I honestly feel as though I am healing my body and finally repairing a long time struggle with yo-yo weight loss and gain with so much helpful info from ppl like Dr Berg, Dr Fung and others like him that made this transition better than many doctors I’ve seen personally. I have endocrine gland issues (master gland), and it is Dr Berg that pin pointed the fact that weight issues and cases of obesity may stem from hormone issues. Best advice ever and it makes so much sense now! Best wishes to you!

    I've read that AGEs never go away, is that true? is there no way to rid the body of already created AGE. I've also read that A1c is a measure of AGE for the blood, but clearly improves as A1c improves with low carb eating. keep up the good work!

  • @leoderiviere1685

    i think we are missing the point here, anything involving something close to the maillard reaction will create AGEs, its not just BBQ RIBS or BIG FRIED DONUTS that make AGEs, if you are roasting vegetables in any type of fat, you are creating AGEs, if you are roasting GRASS FED BEEF in OLIVE OIL or BUTTER, you are creating very strong AGEs if you are a good cook. We need more research on cooking technique and health issues

  • @MS-ty1uw
    @MS-ty1uw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Deep frying in oil and cooking food containing saturated fats for eg . meat at very high temperature also produces AGES .Never fry the food or overheat the oil . Even if one is on a perfect KETO diet , eating fried food or overheated oily food will still make him/her age faster .

    • @vimal6113
      @vimal6113 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      there are already protein present in your blood in the form of collegen, LDL, HDL etc.
      so when you eat sugar, that sugar gets combines with all sorts of protein in the blood to form AGEs.... so stop eating sugar at all no matter what....

  • @eatymceatison97
    @eatymceatison97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Not entirely true, though! Foods that display a Maillard reaction also contain AGEs. Obviously, sugars are the best resource of AGEs, but you could be overcooking your chicken, for example, and thus still be eating them. There are also other examples.

    Dear dr. Eric. I have been reading a lot on glycation processes, and as much as I would love to believe that by avoiding sugar we avoid glycation... it's more complex than that. Actually, we should not ingest carbs and fats or carbs and protein in the same meal to avoid glycation. So the modus operandi for a glycation free diet is separation of carbs from fats and protein. Would you agree? This is hard because we are used to eat for instance sandwiches which are carbs with protein+fats usually. Or rice with some protein...

    • @macknumber9
      @macknumber9 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Close your eyes and imagine it is 2000 years ago. Sandwiches did not exist then. What existed was people gathering/hunting for food. There was never a time when they were able to eat both fruits/meats together. They would gather/snack on fruit throughout the day and then hunt and eat the kill at night. Cheeseburgers/sandwiches/doughnuts/etc were all designed on purpose to make us sick and reliant on big pharma.

      Lou. Unfortunately, the mainstream fitness and medical communities tell more falsity than truth. Whereas a high fruit diet lacking protein and fat brings a whole new set of problems.

    Hi Dr. Berg, could you talk about why Alzheimer's Disease is being called Type 3 Diabetes? This theory has been around since about 2005 and studies are correlating the beta amyloid plaques in the brain that are characteristic of Alzheimer's with insulin resistance in the brain cells.
    It's just funny to me that the Alzheimer's Association still recommends a low fat diet high in fruit and does not stress low sugar intake. At my job, we have to ask for donations for this association, and a representative came and spoke to us and brought us cupcakes. The irony. If we are funneling millions of dollars into research for Alzheimer's (and other diseases like cancer) why are they so behind? What has come out of this so-called "research"? They are not advancing toward cures or prevention, they are looking for the next money-making drug to suppress the symptoms of Alzheimer's. I would love your opinon on this matter. Thanks as always!

      Fruit doesn't cause diabetes or insulin insensitivity. Whoever is selling you on that is misleading you.
      A cupcake isn't analogous at all to eating an orange. The cupcake has a far higher glycemic load and has very little nutritional value. The orange, on the other hand, has alot of fiber and antioxidants.

    • @MM-nk6wz
      @MM-nk6wz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Magnulus76 I never said fruit causes diabetes. What I am saying is that people who have insulin resistance can benefit from avoiding high carbohydrate foods, such as fruits, rice, pasta, etc. The old nutrition pyramid that these organizations promote is outdated. Also, fiber is not a nutrient. It is not broken down whatsoever and provides no nutrition to the body. Of course eating cupcakes is worse than eating fruit, the only thing I'm saying is that people who do have insulin resistance could benefit by reducing their total carb intake, this includes glucose and fructose.

She goes shopping with me and just about goes everywhere when I do which isn't often cuz I'm a stay-at-home mom but when I do she's usually with me. She also suffers from mild depression it's pretty under control taking Zoloft and she keeps Xanax on hand in case of a panic attack. Unfortunately I suffer from the depression and anxiety as well but mine is under control thus far. My question is, having the diabetes and taking insulin pen shots and taking medicine for cholesterol and blood pressure and depression, can she take benfotiamine or will it interfere with her medications? Is there any harmful side effects and can you recommend a brand if she is able to take it? Like will it cause her blood sugar to drop suddenly to dangerous levels? Please help because she needs to get off all these medications. Plus I'm tired of her feeling tired all the time she feels good but tired. Like no energy most of the time.

    So, just to be clear:
    100 grams of steak (no bbq sauce) on the barneque is about 10 000 units.
    100 grams of a donut or french fries is 1500 units.
    An apple is 13. A baked apple is 46.
    You don’t seem to understand the reaction. When meat/flesh gets cooked, it will go through the maillard reaction when the protein and fat will react to SUGAR in the blood of the flesh. Its not added sugars.
    You’re also leaving out how high cheese is, sausage, bacon and mayo or butter. The galactose in dairy reacts with the fat when processed.
    Eating animal products will lead to the highest load of AGEs. The way to combat it is to not cook in dry heat, stay away from high fats and eat lots of antioxidants to negate the effect.

      i agree with everything except that fats should be avoided. we need fats for various reasons. even if they are loaded with AGEs the positives far outweigh the negatives
      now there is something about glycation that confuses me and i haven't found the answer so maybe you can answer it. if i am to take a boiled potato and eat it with butter will that cause glycation? or does it only happen through the maillard reaction?

      I said ”avoid high fats”. Meaning, animal products high in saturated fats. By all means, eat nuts, seeds, avocado - natural fats. Thats fine and we do need some essential fatty acids.
      It will not react like that if you eat butter and a boiled potato - but the butter itself has a high load of AGEs. But still a better choice than oven roasted potatoes in butter.

    My brother eats a lot of sugar. He's younger than me and he's a mess. He's already had cataracts removed several years ago and he's on several medications. Does sugar have anything to do with colitis? He had his entire colon removed and now has Crohns. And he keeps bringing my mother all this sugary crap: cookies and little debbie cakes and all that garbage. Thankfully, she gives them away to the nurses. Personally, I'd rather throw them away because I'd feel like I was giving away poison.

    It's not ONLY combining sugar with Protein and or fat, its how you cook animal products. Also animal products rich in AGES, butter has extremely high amounts 26000 units of AGES. The dry cooking/toasting/grilling/roasting are famous to increase AGES in addition to the cooking duration. I feel that Dr Berg was biased in how to present the very serious issue, that some scientists are referring to as the root cause of the contemporary increased inflammation/Diabetes/heart disease/Alzheimer/ Cancer.... I hope he makes a follow up video

    What about artificial sweeteners like Stevia? Can they combine to form advanced glycation end products?

    • @DrAskildsen
      @DrAskildsen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This applies to everything that is converted into glucose in the body of all kinds. All sugars whether it is from plants, fruits, processed foods, nuts, seeds, or synthetic artificial sweet chemicals.
      In other words, anything that is not pure animal products (proteins and fats / tallow) or pure water. Contains carbohydrates or is converted to it in the body.
      Sugar is toxic to the body. And the body does not need sugar at all through the diet. It has gluconeogenesis which converts this from non-dietary fats. Therefore, the body converts sugars first. Not because it prefers it. But to get used up or stored as fat to get rid of it. The problem is that the cells can get enough and you get the condition (IR) insulin resistance which is the precursor to diabetes. But this can be easily withdrawn or cured with water fasting or to stop eating so much sugar or best of all cut it out completely if you can. But to revise it when you have diabetes, the damage has been going on for many years and then it is difficult to cure it completely.

    Dr.Berg, AGEs come even from how we cook the food. Everytime we make meat brown we have maillard reaction that releases tons of AGEs!!! Another classic example is how we prepare Eggs can give very differents value of AGEs. The worst is bacon. I think we must update the Ketogenic Diet, excluding the bad way to cook. Otherwise we only "suppose" to be healty but we spread Ages around all our organs.

    • @CK-nt7zn
      @CK-nt7zn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      its about 18 gr per scoop mixed with about 45 gr dextrose.
      bodybuilders use whey protein isolate because its fat free protein, so when you mix it with dextrose, the highest glycemic sugar , the idea is to maximally open up the muscle cell walls with the sugar insulin spike and have plenty of protein to help rebuild the cell, replenish glycogen stores with the dextrose and with little to no fat circulating at this time to avoid fat accumulation since the spike of insulin will also open up fat cells to filling up if theres any excess sugar or protein converted to fat or any fat circulating

The are no grey zones in science, either it is tested properly or it is not tested wid randomized trails that are designed to give you a good indicator of what is objective truth or not. What you think, is irrelevant.
