    I really like that Percy learned about the offerings and then tried to 'pray' to his mom. He was like ...pray to my dad who has never done anything to me and hasn't even claimed me yet?? Pffft. I'm praying to my mom who knows me and loves me

      Ironically it’s pretty close to a real historical practice of ancestral worship that was consistent in parts of Greece, so…

    I think those activities were to test who his godly parent is. If he is instinctually good at archery his dad is most likely Apollo and if he is good at the forge his dad would probably be Hephaestus. So it was more to see if he's naturally good at anything to see who his godly parent is than actual training.

      yes thats what is intended.
      but in real life its not so simple, we would need much more advanced tests.. because i was naturally gifted at most things like blacksmithing.. swordfighting ..climbing ..crafting.. singing, gardening. honestly id probably be something to do with War because war includes peace

      I'm not sure if they shot a sword fight training with Percy and Luke, but there are definitely scenes that were cut, like Percy walking to the Poseidon cabin while everyone is looking at him.

      Yeah in real life we can be good at different things in different degrees… but these are demigods, their brains are hardwired to Ancient Greek (hence the dyslexia) and they have ADHD to make them alert to monsters. So being crap at most things but inhumanly good at selective talents makes perfect sense.

    They don't really explain it here, but the demigods do usually end up with a natural proclivity for something under their godly parents' domain. Like, if he were the son of Apollo, there's a high likelihood he'd've been gifted with a bow from the jump. Also, you pointed out when Percy was getting closer to the lake (thinking he'd end up using some hydrokinesis, assumedly), but it might not have clicked for you that he also seemed to get better at fighting in relation to his proximity to said lake.

    When Luke said that Anabeth can see steps ahead of everybody else, he doesn’t mean it literally. He just mean that she is smart and always strategized 6 steps ahead of everyone else. Since she is the daughter of Athena, the goddess of war, wisdom and strategy

    The reason the other kids of ares don't like him is because of the glory they were talking about, all of the kids have basically been abandoned, the gods won't even pay attention to them. The only way to get attention was with glory and here comes Percy stealing the chance for the others to get their recognition, the better he looks the worse they look. Its even hammered home when the only time he was able to get his father to claim him was by beating up the ares kids and destroying clarisse's weapon, her only connection to ares.

    I'm so glad you're watching this blind! I was really interested in how the story would come across without book knowledge so I love hearing you theorize about Percy's dreams or what happened to Sally, etc.
    As for the skill tests, it's already been mentioned but it was less "what can you be good at" and more "what are you instinctually good at"? Like how you noticed Percy instinctually picked up sword fighting.
    No one (except maybe Annabeth and Chiron) thought Percy could be a son of one of the Big 3 gods, so they weren't expecting him to have some sort of magical water abilities. Instead they were looking for little clues to his parentage.
    Good at a bow? Apollo.
    Good at smithing? Hepheastus.
    Clarisse does fit the stereotypical bully archetype. But I do love that Annabeth knows this and uses it. "She's preoccupied with revenge? Great, I'll pull Percy far away from the action so she'll go after him and leave the flag ungaurded. And I'll stay behind to watch to see if I can confirm that he's the son of Posoideon."
    You can really see their godly parentage shine through them, and it makes for some fun dynamics.

    11:47 the whole point is if his godly parent was lets say hephaestus he would instantly have a talent for welding or if his parent was apollo he would have a gift for archery thats why when hes really bad at it from the get go you can rule that god out. Its also why despite him never actually fighting before he was able to go up agaist 3 ares cabin kids

  • @dramonmaster222
    @dramonmaster222 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Dionysus is the God Wine who is forbidden from drinking because he screwed one of Zeus's favorite nymphs and he is camp as punishment.
    The Hermes cabin is where they stick all the unclaimed kids as he is the God of Travel and Thieves. However because not all the gods claim their children, this becomes a problem that leads to overcrowding.
    So just to clarify, Annabeth is the child of Athena and she has a cap of invisibility which was a gift from her God Mother. Luke is a child of Hermes and Clarisse (the female bully) is the child of Aries and she yelled like that because that spear was the only gift she received for her Dad.

    I'm curious if you understood why Mr D and Chiron were not wanting Grover to tell Percy about his mom? It kind of went over some reacters heads.
    They want Percy to focus on getting the master bolt. Thats it. That is what they want Percy to focus on and that's what they want Percy's main mission to be... But of course if Grover tells Percy his mom is probably still alive and been kidnapped/saved by Hades... The master bolt is NOT going to be Percy's number one priority...its going to be saving his mom. And since finding the master bolt has a deadline they want him to put ALL of his focus into finding it.

    This isn’t explained but isn’t a spoiler really, so… As a part of the actual mythology, the Big Three (Zeus, Poseidon and Hades), the sons of Kronos ruler of the Titans, had symbols of their power created by the Cyclopes: Zeus’s is the Master Bolt, Poseidon’s is his trident, and Hades is the Hrlm of Darkness. The reason Percy is suspicious is because he’s the only living child of a Big Three and the brothers don’t get along.

    I really love the choreography and stunts for the capture the flag fighting although I wasn’t super crazy about the way it was edited I like that as soon as Percy started getting close to the water, everything started seeming more instinctual and I also agree that subverting expectations about the stereotypical bullying when a new kid arrives, was nice!

    I think that the kids are supposed to be automatically good at whatever their godly parent is the god of. Although, I'm not quite sure how that would work with someone like Dionysus, the god of wine. Also, being good with a sword could be several god or goddesses. Maybe the fact that the daughter of Aries was using a spear was why he was able to win? I think that Annabeth, seeing what happened in the bathroom, as well as with the other girl, is what made her think "Poseidon".

    • @pinsandneedles3
      @pinsandneedles3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, trying to sniff out natural abilities is definitely more straightforward with some gods than it is with others. Since Dionysus is the god of wine, vegetation, festivity, madness, and theatre, his children could have various gifts. Maybe they stick them into the strawberry field and see if the plants like them? Or have them recite Shakespeare? Lol. Dionysus would most likely just claim his children outright since he's right there but it's a fun question

    • @borjankosarac3645
      @borjankosarac3645 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The strawberry fields are largely for the children of Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest; I think that grapes/vineyards would be for the children of Dionysus but I don’t recall if they have them at Camp.

    @euclides9156 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good photography, good protagonist development with emotional parts and visual effects as good as the ones made on the movies. The Camp as much silly and goofy as the movie. The book explains better the circunstances of training and be more adapted to this or that (but its alright - no producers would spend time to sistematic of how things works). About the acting... Annabeth was too much stoic and friendless than the book; Grover continues playing a not funny character, and Mr Brunner "Chiron" keeps distant from the plot unlike his paper in the book. Worst of all was Luke part that was far away from the popular, smart, smilling, fence master leader that inspire erveryone. Yes, considering the book, that one of the movie was far away better. Again, of course, I'm not blaming the actor but the screenplay choice and directors cut (probably). On the other hand Mr D, Clarisse and Percy parts were played with distinction.
