Can't think having a three ton animal trying to tear a piece of your rudder loose is all that great for the rudder stock, even if it only got a piece loose.
I am not sure what the purpose of this video really is about. Orca "attacks" on boats, specifically rudders are increasing of late. Unlike some previous posters who seem to suggest that Orcas hold a particular preference for Bavarias (Petter) I doubt they can really tell the difference. All these wide-azz, spade rudder, bolt on keel, no handhold, undersized winch and puny ground tackle production "boats" look the same, even I see nothing distinct between these Beneteaus, Bavarias, Hanses, Jeanneaus... Other than the company emblems all the same. However I admit I did not really bite into any one of them so I can not say for certain if there is a better tasting make. The real question is why do these incredibly intelligent animals do this? Mistaken identity? Human encroachment into their habitat? Dwindling food supply? As to the voyage... hm, hm, new production boat, no shake down run, from what I can see only standard off the shelf equipment and then across the Biscay. Lucky you did not encounter real Biscay weather, even so you seem to feel the 3 meter waves in the beginning are something noteworthy. I wish you good luck, seems you need it.

I become sea sick just from watching the video 😅 Bay of Biscay is really a nasty terrain just like the North Sea.
Seems there is a pod of rudder eating Orcas in that sea area - multiple reports recently. East
So the orcas are telling their pals to screw with boats. That's not good.
Good to know it can survive an “angry” orca attack with just a bit chewed off rudders. Not like they had been entirely ripped off.
