      Totally agree; also love that i can enjoy the experience and not every damn thing is narrated like some other channels I can mention; while im sure continuous talk/narration helps people understand flying/can be educational, I enjoy being a passenger and watching you guys do yo thangg.

    Stumbled onto your channel as a result of a 'suggested video' Really impressed with your content and especially the interaction between the two of you and your controller perspective on things. Very different to my flying in the UK but subscribed straight away and looking forward to future videos. Well done the both of you! Tim

      Glad you like it Tim! I've watched several flying videos from the UK and I agree with you...it is very different. Hopefully one day I'll cross the pond and check it out first hand. We have a night flight planned soon. Not sure how the cameras will do with that. Hopefully it makes for a good video.

    Nice landing. Direct cross and the building im sure causes some bumps on the way down. ARR seems like a great staging ground for these kinds of trips; far enough to enjoy the trip into the Chicago area but also out of the way enough to go anywhere else and not have to detour all around Class B. And that 310 is a badass twin.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Nick! I'm loving the 310 so far! ARR is my favorite Chicago area airport. It's far enough from the crowds and has that small town feel. Surrounded by farm fields with lot's of options if anything goes wrong on departure. Lot's of bumps and shear coming over those buildings that day for sure!

    Great flight, Guys. WOW!! It had to be really bumpy. That flight gave you a good workout!! Great landing, considering the wind you had to deal with. Good job!!! I had a good laugh when she talked about “seeing” Alaska from there. That was funny. 😂😂😂. I love it when you both know the ATC Controllers, and carry on a conversation with them. That is so cool!!! Enjoyed the tour of the flight museum. Hope Mom didn’t get scared during the flight, with all the bumping around going on.
    The return flight didn’t seem to be as bad. You landing was perfect. Great video. Keep up the good work. I enjoy flying with you two.

      Thank you Richard! The cameras do a good job of masking it but it was for sure a bumpy flight. She is a pretty funny lady. "No Sarah Palin..." :) Her mom is a very easy GA passenger. She seemed to enjoy a bumpy ride. She'd love it when it's smooth out. The return flight had the winds die down on the surface quite a bit. It was much smoother. Glad you enjoy watching!

    I enjoy watching your videos. I stumbled on one of them while looking for something else.
    I did my commercial, multi-engine, instrument flight training in a 310 at the Angola, Indiana airport quite a few years ago. I used to fly a lot for business and have flown into Shamburg, and flown the Chicago skyline back when Meigs field was still operational. The skyline flight on a clear/calm night is spectacular.
    Flying into Oshkosh during the EAA AirVenture is a lot of fun too. Since you are so close, perhaps you could fly there this summer and make another great video. Air traffic control into Oshkosh during the fly-in is very different from your typical routine.
    Another trip to consider would be to fly to Mackinaw Island. I used to take friends and family there every summer when I lived in Indiana. Of course, your most direct route would be across lake Michigan. Mackinaw Island does not allow any motorized vehicles, so contact the airport Unicom and request a horse drawn taxi into town for lunch. I always preferred to go right after Labor Day…great weather and fewer crowds. That would make another enjoyable video to post here with great scenery including the Mackinac Bridge.
    I now live in deep-south Texas. Watching your most recent video where the ground is covered in snow reminds me why I like living down here, especially during the winter. I don’t miss those cold morning walk-arounds one little bit.
    Thanks again for the videos. You both do an excellent job and I look forward to future submittals.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you James! Glad you stumbled aboard. 310's are awesome planes! That's cool you learned in one. I learned in an under-powered Seneca I. I went to OSH last year but had to drive as the field was closed to twins the day I was going up. I am planning on going this year and will video it. I worked there for 3 consecutive years as a controller at the airshow and miss doing that. Thank you for the Mackinac Island recommendation! We went last spring and it was great. I didn't have the cameras then but we are planning to go back and will film it this time. It's great flying in and having a horse drawn taxi waiting for you. Congrats on your escape to TX! I grew up in GA and don't think I'll ever get used to the winters here. Thank goodness for a heated hangar!

    • @James-ez3nq
      @James-ez3nq 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really cool that you were able to be a controller at OSH for three years. What an opportunity!
      When you flew to Mackinac, did you do a day trip, or stay overnight? The Island is completely different at night compared to daytime. The last ferry for the mainland leaves the Island around 6 PM, so all of the day-trippers leave and the Island is much quieter and laid-back. We stayed in various places on the Island, but discovered the” Windermere Hotel”, and from then on always stayed there. It’s at the west end of the main street with a beautiful view of the bridge. You can sit on the front porch and watch the horse drawn carriages go by. Highly recommended if you decide to stay overnight.
      Have you been to the USAF Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio? They used to have an annual general aviation fly-in, but I don’t think they do that anymore. It was really cool to fly into the AFB and then they shuttled you to the museum which is outstanding. It takes two full days to see everything at the museum. It's huge! Lots of aviation history. I flew my father-in-law there. He was a Navy flight instructor at Corpus Christi, Texas, and he really enjoyed the trip. Most of the smaller airports in the area accommodate museum goers with inexpensive car rentals to get to the museum.
      Thanks again for sharing your aviation adventures. You are obviously a very proficient pilot. I wish I had a copilot that was as good on the radios as yours. It reduces so much more of the work load.
      James

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      James, we stayed over night. As you said, it was great. We will be back for sure. I flew my 310 close to Wright Patt last spring and landed to wait on weather. They gave me a courtesy car and I toured the museum. It was awesome and I didn't have nearly enough time. One day I plan to go back and spend some more time. Thank you again for your recommendations!

    Another wonderful video! I guess if I’m honest, this is the one channel I watch where not only do you guys obviously enjoy yourselves in what is a very cool aircraft, but your videos highlight the many differences - and similarities - between how you do it over there and how we do it over here! In the UK, the rotating beacon is turned on right before startup and off just after engine shutdown. Strobes are turned on when entering the runway and off when you vacate. NAV lights are required ON both daylight and darkness hours. Also interestingly enough, most pilots will never accept a Land And Hold Short clearance (LAHSO) - clearance to land on a runway and stop and hold clear of an intersecting runway - and this is standard for most UK airlines. Around 65% of UK airspace is controlled - mostly you cannot enter it VFR unless certain conditions are met. Transiting the controlled airspace of a major airport is a rare luxury here! It almost never happens! But again, it’s great to see how helpful everyone is on the R/T such that you can do pretty much what you would wish to do - and the controllers really do their best to help you do it. Very cool. Keep them coming!

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again Lee! I'm really glad you are enjoying the videos and able to compare the flying over here vs there. There is so much more freedom of flight in the US compared to most of the rest of the world. Occasionally you may encounter a grumpy/difficult controller but that is pretty rare. For the most part ATC is very accommodating to all reasonable request. I hope we are able to keep our sky's the way they are now! I just flew into MDW last night in the midst of the 737's from SWA and the controllers had no issues letting me land for fun and depart again. I haven't reviewed the film yet, hopefully the gopro's do good at night.

    Taxing to the runway to line up... "Flaps up gear down" I sure hope your gear was down you were rolling on the ground lol. I know checklists but I found that one kinda funny. Good video guys loved it.

    • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I know it seems goofy. My 3 year old plays in the plane a lot and likes to flip switches and mash buttons. You can never be too sure. If the gear selector is up and you start takeoff roll, the weight on wheels switch can disengage before you are ready to fly and raise the gear. Glad you liked the video!

      I would if I could...youtube is very concerned about copyright issues so that is a song from their copyright free library. • @310Pilot
      @310Pilot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found us Isaac! Hope you stick around for more as we have a bunch of cool things planned for the year. I started as a 150 driver through solo then Skyhawk through private. I still borrow a friends 172 out at his farm to tool around it. They will always have a soft place in my heart. A 310 is an absolute joy to fly but things do happen fast, especially in a single pilot IFR world at times. As/if you move up, you get use to it and then when you step back in your trusty skyhawk you feel like your going backwards. :)

    I flew pre GPS and pre Glass cockpit out of Midway. The Lakefront tour, as I called it, was a fave of mine and my passengers. Many trips up to Mitchell, having dinner at a steakhouse across the street from the FBO. then the Safehouse in downtown. Made for a great double date. Bahai temple spectacular at night. This was in the 70's. I recall when the restaurant at Clow was just a hot dog stand. Flew into Meigs many times, at night it was like a carrier landing!! I recall flying into Schaumburg, at the time, it seemed that every other runway light was out. Hard to find from the air at night. I am dating myself.
