Alright, I wanted to do something like a supercut like this for a while now. I floated the idea with the Community duology, and then I realized I might as well wait until the movie comes out to do that (eventually…). Instead I apologize in advance for the general lower quality of…pretty much everything for the early vids lol obviously I was figuring out a lot of stuff out (still am by the way) and looking back, there’s absolutely a lot I’d have done differently.
I think the biggest change would be that I’d have preferred to do one, full video on the Nolan trilogy as opposed to segmented videos, especially because there’s a lot I could have done to make everything just flow better as a single complete discussion. I also would have liked to clean up the audio and have it be more consistent; I changed mics after Batman Begins, changed recording software and learned more about audio mixing after The Dark Knight, and moved after The Dark Knight Returns, and that made things sound even weirder when I did a quick listen through. God it makes me cringe lol. I literally recorded Begins in my living room and you can totally tell.
It’s even more annoying because there’s definitely some ideas, topics, and jokes that I wanted to use throughout all three discussions, but I either forgot, or for some reason, they didn’t work as well as I originally thought when it was time to actually implement them. If I had a time machine I’d definitely do all of the films as one video instead of 3.5/3 years.
Still, as much as I’d like to go back and redo it, I can’t, so this is the best I can do! Again, I hope you can bear with the lower quality of the early vids. I definitely think I could have done a lot better, but it is what it is. Next real video should be well into production by this point, so look forward to that soon!

I think Batman losing to Bane in The Dark Knight Rises was less "he is old and worn out" and more "he mentally didn't have it in him any more to fight".
Bruce loses his future when Rachel dies so he loses his will to live. Then once most of the crime has been stopped he loses his will to fight. Then comes in Bane and Batman is needed again but Bruce doesn't have the motivation to fight anymore.
When Batman comes back to beat Bane he had regained that will to fight and had a future to look forward to so his will to live, fear of death, and his motivation to fight are what let him win.

I think that's a fair way to look at it, I was mostly assessing it like how it was framed in The Dark Knight Returns, which it's also a bit of both Bruce being weaker both mentally and physically. So when he later defeats the Mutant Leader, it's framed as "Bruce isn't as physically capable as he used to be, but he adapted in a way that let's him fight using his intellect vs his strength". Which is similar to how it plays out in The Dark Knight Rises.
Obviously Rises isn't a 1:1 comparison, but since the eight year gap isn't as long as the gap in The Dark Knight Returns, there's definitely an argument to Bruce's mental being the real barrier in Rises, whereas in Returns, it's primarily the physical barrier.

@ViviVariety yeah totally, my whole premise relies on Bane saying "Victory has betrayed you" or something like that.
I think it showed that Bruce no longer had it in him. I think it was implied Bane would lose to a prime Batman but that's not the Batman we have now. Bruce has to find it in himself the strength to become the Batman Gothem needs again.

Sometimes i wonder how different the Dark Knight Rises would have been if Heath Ledger had still been alive.
The Scarecrow cameo was awesome and everytime i see that scene i image the Joker would have been the "defense attorney" pretending and giving bad arguments against the sentencing only to agree with Scarecrow later.
But at the same time i could see Nolan writing Joker a bigger part and then Joker would just steal the show and that would drastically change the movie.
I ultimately think the trilogy as a whole is great with The Dark Knight as the best, then Rise, then Batman Begins

It’s definitely an interesting thought experiment, and I’m not sure how the final product would’ve ended up because Nolan doesn’t really “plan” for sequels. He basically goes all in from the get-go and leaves no stone unturned.
I know there’s a Rises comic tie-in that has Bane kill the Joker, and I can see Nolan opting for the Joker having a smaller role as you said; mostly a cameo or two with the Scarecrow scene being the obvious choice. However, the mere fact that Heath would be alive is such a drastic change, and I could definitely see Nolan either wanting to use the Joker again, or perhaps WB pressuring Nolan to include him since he’s such an iconic villain. And just having the Joker be an option changes SO much…like could you even do a film like Rises with the Joker, Bane and Catwoman? Would you do up the ante and have the Joker do something like kill Alfred or Selina? Do you opt for an interpretation of The Killing Joke or Death of the Family?
I actually thought about discussing this in more detail in the Rises section, but I honestly couldn’t even come to a real conclusion because it changes so much. You basically have one of the most iconic villains and an actor who gave us an iconic portrayal, and the sky’s the limit for a Batman film like that. I genuinely have no idea what third film would’ve been with the Joker in it.

I actually haven't played them, but I did recently pick up Asylum and City on sale like three months ago. I'm super down to play them when I get the time!

@@ViviVariety definitely recommend checking them out, they are my favorite take on the caped crusader hands down. The lore accuracy to the comics, tone, and digs deep into the detective aspect of batman i dont think any other iteration has done by far. The combat is very satisfying as well, with a free flow system. They definitely aged like fine wine so hope you can enjoy them! Man i can talk on and on for ages, the hidden easter eggs foreshadowing villains for the next game eerie messaging, and a sense of wonder of what really is going on behind the scenes from the villains side, i love this seires just as much as you do with the fromsoft games, which thanks to you since last year i played bloodborne, sekiro, ds3, ds1, ds, and elden ring, i loved the critique u did on those games and as a result it motivated me to complete them and replay them countless times, hope you find the same enjoyment with the arkham series.
