Another Alton Brown technique that has changed my life! Tried his oven method after I saw his episode and have never looked back! 😉Lol! Thank you for showing this comparison of the bacon. It does show that you can get more for your buck if you know where the bacon was cut from on the animal. The Aldi bacon was cut from a more premium cut from the other two. More meat was distributed throughout the slice because it was directed toward the chest area. The Costco was cut from just behind the ribs of the animal. The Member's mark was cut from the back end of the belly where the fat thickness can be uneven and difficult to cut and the fat density can be sporadic. This means that compared to a human, some folk's hardest fat store is the upper abdomen, while the rest of the belly fat can be softer and malleable. That is why the Member's Mark bacon scorched in that area of both of them, the fat density was softer and easier to cook out.

Thank you for testing 3 nationally available store brands! These days, when everyone is trying to save on groceries, it's good to know the qualities of different products so we can make informed choices. Bacon is a staple - especially during the holidays. Sounds like it's Costco for the win at my house. You & Terri are the best! ♥️🥓

I bake mine as well, but I use parchment paper to line my baking sheet. I try to avoid aluminum foil (just my personal preference).
Cooking bacon in the oven is a game changer; it cooks evenly throughout and you can get it perfectly crispy every single time. Plus you can cook a whole package at once.

We tried that Aldi bacon for the first time a couple weeks ago, and I've been dreaming of it ever since. Aldi also has the best sugar free, nitrite free bacon, in a green pkg., also very good. I like mine crispy, too, and the Aldi bacon is sliced nice and thin. I prefer to cook mine in a special covered bacon cooker in the microwave. Don't judge, I used to cook bacon in the oven, but I am 67 years old and hate getting on hands and knees to clean the oven. This was a fun video!

That cure free Aldi bacon is like $6-7 for 12 oz. That’s insane. I’ll have ribeye for that price almost. Like Steve said the sugar is consumed and sodium nitrite has been demonized for no good reason. It’s fine to eat. You do you. Oven on parchment paper makes less smoke and mess by far than any other method I have. The air fryer is good for smaller quantities. It’s just a portable convection oven after all.

Thanks Steve for all the difficulty tasks you take on for us!! Blessings!

when I worked in a restaurant/rest area food center as a teenager we used to cook bacon on sheet pans in an oven right on the parchment paper that it was packed on when we purchased it. then the cook manning the grills for breakfast would finish cooking the bacon on the grill and put it out in steamtable pans for customers to serve themselves on the buffet line...

Loved the video Steve! I like to use parchment paper instead of foil. Krinkle it up into a ball like you were going to throw it away then flatten it out before putting in the pan, that way it doesn't roll up on the ends. I also love Aldi and Sam's Club bacon.

Hi Steve, I use the Ken Berry method. The raw bacon is cut into 1.5 in pieces and placed in a deep pot and medium high heat...the deep pot contains the splatter...takes about 20 min. and you can save the grease. I buy Hormel black label cherry wood from Woodman's. I prefer thick sliced. Tom from Kenosha.

    I am a bacon lover too &
I like mine crispy as well. My favorite of all time bacon is the Kentucky Legend hickory
smoked brand. I live in middle Tennessee & our grocery stores carry this brand which is excellent because I’ve tried all of the different brands & this brand is scrumptious all the time. I cook mine in the oven on a huge baking sheet with out any parchment paper or aluminum foil because I save the bacon grease for other uses & I don’t mind the clean up at all.
I start it in a cold oven too, & cook a pound at a time. Best way to cook bacon in my opinion.
Your videos are great so keep them coming😀

We do the cold start method too but put a rack into the baking sheet and put the bacon on that. Since it's raised up, the bacon fat drips off and the bacon seems to get crisper since it's not sitting in a puddle of fat. Aldi bacon FTW. Years ago Aldi used to do a jalapeño bacon that was mind blowingly good. I miss it so much.

Wow, what a chore to eat all that bacon! Glad you survived! I make two pounds at a time each week. I double the bacon strips over, bake at 425° about 20 minutes or so until they look nice and crispy, store in a lock 'n lock until more is needed. It’s a good thing to have on hand for snack attacks, for a quick BLT meal with zero carb toast and mayo. And I ALWAYS buy Aldi’s lower sodium bacon. The regular is too salty for the Hubster-too salty for me too, now that I’m used to it.

Food prices being what they are, my wife and I gravitate to the cheapest one, which is usually at Walmart, but we really like the Member's Mark the best. The only thing about that one, for us, is that there tends to be about 2 or 3 strips per package that are paper thin, to the point that you can see through them and it's hard to peel them off the bunch without tearing.

Bacon IS magical. I got to serve my grand-niece a bacon sandwich with a side of bacon and a bacon “chaser.” Such a good little girl.
As for how we cook it, I do it on my smoker. Adding the extra smoke is nice. And since we do not use the bacon fat, it makes cleanup a real breeze. I do not complain about everything else smoked afterward having a bacon flavor!

I lay my bacon flat on a cookie sheet lined with foil with a layer of parchment paper on top. But I don't leave the bacon flat. I pinch each slice in 3-4 places to create humps. I like the way it cooks when I do that. Plus it makes room for double the amount of bacon on a pan. I've been doing cold oven start at 400°, but I'm going to try cold oven start at 370° convection.

We also add a bit of liquid smoke and lots of pepper as we both like peppery, smoky bacon nice and crisp. I learned from Alton Brown coking bacon in oven. I get my bacon by the pound from our butcher section at Stater Brothers here in Calif. When I fry it the aroma of bacon is there. I cooked some in oven other day and had the aroma of a pork loin or roast. Still taste like bacon so my BLT was awesome.

I am lazy and while my air fryer makes excellent bacon, I usually pop a single serving into the microwave for about 3 minutes and it comes out great. Also, I use the bacon ends and pieces that are left over from the sliced bacon in the meat case. It is much cheaper and tastes great to me. When we are camping we put bacon in a flat pan and cook on our BBQ grill, also Yummy.

I've dialed in our oven temp and cook time, though I fold the bacon in half to fit an entire package into our baking sheet. 375°f for 25 minutes in a normally half heated oven, I'll turn the oven on and start prepping the tray to go in the oven. Comes out perfectly crispy and delicious! Kirkland Blue package is our favorite, there is also a red package that's low sodium and zero sugar that's just not as good as the blue!

The only thing I have to add is that we crinkle up the foil, then smooth it back out somewhat. The ridges and peaks keep the bacon from sitting in their own grease. As long as you clean up right after, it's really not that big of a chore, but there's the catch for some - RIGHT after.
We've switched to racks that fit within a jelly roll pan, that keep them 1/2" or so off the tray, and that allows a massive amount to be made at once. Refrigerate the rest, and use as needed.

yes, we have always cooked on aluminum foil in toaster oven from cold for 15mins@350F. We cut our bacon package in half, and we fold each piece in half on the tray. This gives a softer texture that won't crumble like crispy bacon, and becomes bite size. That is our preference. In that cooking time, we can scramble and plate the eggs as well as make a side salad. Dessert is berries with 2 squares dark chocolate. This is our traditional Sunday lunch meal. It's super satisfying. And yes, we let the bacon fat cool and scrape into a little container to use for cooking. yum!

I only buy thick cut bacon and use the Dr Berry pot cooking method and cook 2 lbs at a time. Love Aldi’s Appleton and the price. No Sam’s here but drive to Costco about 45 minutes away and like the Kirkland bacon and the price. Also buy Kroger brand and Walmart brand too when they have sales pricing or coupons. It’s all good. But only buy thick cut bacon.

I prefer pan-fried..when I do oven baked, I put the bacon on a rack so it's not touching the aluminum foil, the end product isn't crispy the way I like it.
Since there aren't any Aldis or Sam's Clubs up here in Alaska, I'm glad the Kirkland was well liked. I get the one you tested, plus their thick cut & Flecthers brand when at Costco😂

I cook it in the oven as well, but on a rack which allows the heat to circulate under. Seems to result in more crisp.

We get John Morrell Hardwood Smoked Thick Sliced Bacon 3lb package from our local military commissary. i cook it in our Nija foodi @ 375 degrees for 10 min, and it comes out great. Sounds like part of supper tonight, yum.

We like to cook up bacon on our Camp Chef Griddle (similar to a Blackstone). Cooks up a whole pack in minutes. Hard to save bacon grease that way, though, and doesn't work during the winter.

The one time I tried bacon on my Blackstone, I think I had the temp too high. I managed to burn it without making it crispy.

I'm with you Steve on liking crispy bacon. My favorite is the John Morrell brand. I try to pick the packs that have the most visible fat because they cook up and taste the best. Another consideration is if I should buy thick or regular size. I like thick because I can cook fewer pieces, but they can sometimes be too chewy and not crispy enough. In any case I love bacon and have it every day. Thanks for doing the review. And since you mentioned it, I love Brussel sprouts 🙂

I stopped baking it awhile ago. I cook it in the air fryer - 6 slices at a time. 400 degrees for 12 minutes. I don’t care about the curling. Sometimes I cook the whole package and then pour off all the bacon fat. We use either the Farmland thick cut and that takes a bit longer. Most of the time we use the low sodium Kirkland version from Costco. I have eaten the bacon from Aldi and it is very good, preferred by some influencers.

Consider using parchment vs aluminum foil. I use Loving it on keto directions. Cold oven to start, 400° for about 35-40 min. Oven is game changer for bacon.
