Co-Written Song "I'm Ready for More" (Creative Lab Session #8)

Mark David and I have been playing music together for the past 7 years. We met through Sanctuary Boston, a spiritual community grounded in Unitarian Universalism. Mark David is the music director and when I joined the band, we immediately clicked musically. Once I started performing my own music, he has frequently joined me as a bandmate contributing guitar, piano, and vocal harmonies. But this was the first time we wrote a song together and I think it turned out great! We spent about 3 hours working on the song. We wrote down things we were thinking about on scrap paper, looked for themes and ended up seeing a theme of wanting to take action to do more and live more fully, but getting stuck in worries and stasis. We both wrote ideas for lyrics and then combined and edited it together. Mark David came up with chords on the piano and we collaborated with ideas for melodies for the verses, pre-chorus, and chorus. Then we added some harmonies and performed the song!
What are "Creative Lab Sessions"?
“Creative Lab Sessions” explore the idea of what can be created collaboratively in a limited time frame such as an afternoon. Collaborations cross artistic lines such as music, dance, visual art, circus, and poetry. The concept for this series arose from my passion for the possibility of making art when you don’t have time for self-doubt, the desire to experiment with ways to collaborate artistically, and my love of combining art forms.
