- This was a small settlement in Port Ross Auckland Island- one of New Zealand’s subantarctic Islands. Discover what happened and why to this site of an ill fated town development in the mid 1800s. The population peaked at about 300 however this colonial ‘experiment’ lasted only 2 years and 9 months before it was disbanded.

Birth: 9th March 1852. Port Ross, Enderby Settlement, in the Auckland Islands, an archipelago of New Zealand
Death: 14th December 1892 (aged 40) Scott's Ferry, Rangitikei District, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand
Burial: Parewanui Presbyterian Cemetery, Parewanui, Rangitikei District, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand
Hi parents were James Hindsley Bromley 1820-1878 and Charlotte Pringle Bower Scott 1832-1893
His wife was Emily Jane (n.Lewis) Bromley 1855-1902 (m. 1875)
Could that be the southernmost attempt at settlement?

And nothing about the most interesting Auckland island settlement attempt , that of Chattam island Maori and there Moriori slaves .

@@aperaruapeeta4309 the NZ crown is attempting to correct the crimes of pakeha against Maori, what are Maori doing to correct thereown crimes against Moriori ???Rekohu is not part of the Maori homeland and is under Moriori traditional law yet Ngati Mutunga still attempt to claim the Chattams by way of the right of conquest which only covers Aotearoa not Rekohu. At a resent tribunal NgatiMutunga could only list one spititual entity on there claim yet Moriori could list over 1000 spiritual entities. Is there a reason u do not give Moriori a capital letter ??? U ARE EXPOSED

@@karfomachet7265 Mōriori are Polynesian settlers who branched off from Māori in Aotearoa we should always acknowledge the atrocities committed by Ngāti mutunga on Mōriori but also what colonisation brought to the island no Mōriori speaks left .
