gokartbuyer yea I just got finish watching it for the 3rd time today (I think it was my 3rd time🤔) and the had noticed a lot of things I didn't noticed the last time.
UGGGHHHH. Dat nostalgia doe. A bazillion years ago I'd stay up super late to watch FLCL on Adult Swim, along with other anime like Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Ghost In The Shell, Conan, Inuyasha, Evangelion, ect...crazy to think so many other people share that story with me lol.
+Placebo_Jones I think a lot of the people talking about that memory were too young for that back then...im 22 and smoke weed now but back when i watched inuyasha and yu yu hakusho and all that stuff stuff i was like 9-17. I didnt need weed when I was younger to make me feel alive.
PKSkyler Yeah, I'm about 6 years older. I was in high school when toonami was at its prime. I remember coming home one night from a party stoned to the gills and FLCL was on and I just sat there with my mind blown. You don't need to smoke to like it, but holy shit does it take it to another level.
At 33 in 2023, it’s still my fav anime. I’ll never forget walking to Sam Goody with my saved up allowance to buy the three dvds. Still have the poster proudly displayed.
+imperyx Well think of it this way. It came from the assistant director of EVA after they just finished the end of EVA and he wanted to something completely new and his own creation. Then after this, he did another great over the top anime, you mightve heard of it, its called....Gurren Lagann.
+PKSkyler Actually, Hiroyuki Imaishi made Gurren Lagann, though Gainax made both shows. Imaishi DID direct episode 5 of FLCL though and if you watch Imaishi's first major work Dead Leaves you can see the obvious similarities. Kazuya Tsurumaki, the director of FLCL, did work on an episode or two of Gurren Lagann, though not as a director. It's extremely interesting to see how the staff of FLCL went on to achieve great things. Imaishi went on to direct Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking, Yoh Yoshinari (an animator on the show) went on to be one of the most notable animators in the industry and to direct Little Witch Academia, Masahiko Otsuka went on to write scripts for Panty and Stalking/write and direct episodes of Kill la KIll, etc. FLCL was truly lightning in the bottle in the sense that a SHIT TON of amazing young people came together to create something truly beautiful and inimitable. There will never be anything like it ever again, and that's an incredibly bittersweet thing.
My best friend from High School was seriously so deep into The Pillows, An obscure Japanese Rock Band that's the modern version of The Beatles/Pink Floyd. Plus you're hearing from a guy who mostly listens to death metal and this was beyond golden. Honestly love at first sight with this band. Plus FLCL is a classic man, Only six episodes but some of the best ever aired. Happy 16 years to a golden anime.
Everything you said is true. The Pillows, despite being a Japanese band and relatively obscure, are one of my favorite things to come out of Japan. Their music is just fantastic. And FLCL is a masterpiece, even if it is only six episodes and random as fuck. I can't wait to rewatch it, and hopefully the new seasons will be just as good!
I like The Pillows a lot, but they're nowhere close to the sound of Floyd or the Beatles, I feel like people just through statements like that out without any regard for the actual way the bands sound.
Pleb Detector Remember, Same type of rock sound. But a thirty year difference son. Notice how I said modern. If it was completely similar then there would be nothing to say.
Pillows sounds like a Japanese version of Dinosaur Jr. If you have not listened to Dinosaur Jr. you'll probably immediately notice it on the album Without a Sound
It's crazy how anime culture has changed when this came out I was very young anime wasn't cool at the time. The comments that say 7 years are even new to seeing this anime. It's amazing at the same time sad ppl we're bullied and forced out of this community by the same ppl who watch it now. Fucked up really
Stan Mozeleski so then why do u think fooly cool isnt a great anime ? I didnt watch fooly cooly i dropped it after one episode and trust me i watched at least 200 + animes , some greats out there are hajjime no ippo, slam dunk , monster, death note , one outs, kaiji, major etc
I will never understand why this show and this song in specific feel so nostalgic to me. I didn't have cable, FLCL didn't air in my country and I was born in 2003, yet this anime and this song reminisce me of my time being a kid in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Everything seemed happier despite the world being far from perfect
s back when adult swim use to show nothing but anime everynight it was great cause adult swim took over the midnight run of toonami oh how i miss that adult swim staying up till like 3 or 4 before the started over watching shows like this case closed 009 witch hunter robin trigun etc.... god i feel old
Bruh, the only reason it's like that is because it's what used to be adult swim's anime block got turned into Toonami. (And fuck you mean shonen shit????? Yeah,it has Naruto and One piece but that's pretty much it. Everything else from Sword Art and Michiko and Hatchin to Parasyte and Samurai Champloo (which they're bringing back) could never be shown on Cartoon Network)
Man... Staying up late every Saturday night to watch this and a bunch of other shows was my absolute favorite part of my childhood. Now that I'm a 20-something with those days mostly behind me, I'm so happy to see Toonami and FLCL come back! It made me remember little bits of myself that I felt like I lost when I went through High School and College.
This anime uses perspective so beautifully, so simple yet elegant. I never got to follow the whole story because you miss one episode and it ruins the whole experience. Maybe I'll check it out again later, someday.
lol its gonna be shit. its just a cash grab. only good thing is that its gonna bring attention to the original. other than that. no. just no. the story dosent need anything else.
I was able to watch this when it first aired at ~7 cause my grandparents were the only ones at the time that had cable. Totally confused, no idea what was going on (pretty sure I got my first boner cause of it). 15 years later when I watched it in it's entirety, I STILL had no idea what was going on
Lyrics: Unseen, I strike the finishing blow I've survived even this era Beneath a illusory sky I can hardly remember what I was afraid of Secretly watching over the town I step about carelessly Setting fires everywhere What was the name of that town, anyway? Even if I'm responsible for all that grief, it's fine I don't need your sympathy Wherever I am, whoever I'm with I just want to be alone The shadow of a shadow stretches out Filling the lonely days Even though the world is tired of it I'll still scream at them when I feel like it! Not watching carefully, I've lost focus But it's all right I feel like I'm naked Though the future I fled from is unhappy I want to wake up Even if I'm responsible for all that grief, it's fine I don't need your sympathy Wherever I am, whoever I'm with I just want to be alone
The OST from the original FLCL is one of the only things in this world that can, without fail, make me depressed immediately. It's like a tangible wave of "time to die, buck-o" any time I even hear the first note of one of these songs and it carries out all the way through to the end and then some. *deep sigh

Something about this anime I love dearly, maybe it's the music they used? And how the characters interacted with each other. I don't know, I just love it.
I watched this anime for the first time when i was 7 and i loved it so much. I rewatched it multiple times throughout the years, and everytime i rewatch it i get a bigger feeling of crying my eyes out out of pure nostalgia from other times. Its been 19 years. Damn i feel like crying again after listening the this.
I remeber my older sister buying The CD for us because we liked the anime so much.. when i was a kid. This soundtrack.. is a permanent installment in my life . incredible. It truly gives me intense nostalgic feels..
I only watched the ending of this series as a kid and was so confused. I was on the search to look for the anime for several years because of the soundtrack, I’ve found the anime and watched it over and over again. I’m just glad it still has the same charm it once had when I was kid.
i didnt watch the show but I remembered the soundtrack, my parents both watched this series when I was a baby or just a toddler and I think the reason why I remember this a lot is because my father played this a ton during car trips, I hope to watch it this summer :DD
Flcl is one of those to me where the older you get the more you can understand and relate to the characters. This also has to go down as of the best anime OSTs
it was a really cold night But I didnt need a blanket this song is all that kept me warm inside I love flcl 2 new seasons and pillows being brought back Thank you flcl for what you have done for me and the memories you have provided
something about the show's mood perfectly captures that feeling of getting friendzoned for the first time in middle school during summer break when you finally ask out that girl you were getting along with really nicely
I was five when this golden show came out ,and I first watched it at the age of 18 and watching it again at the age of 20 ..best band ,brings back the that pump that I had !!!!
I wish my headphones had more than ear-splitting volume, so my ears could do more than just bleed while I listen to this masterpiece of a song from one of my fave anime.
I mistyped LCL and accidently searched up FLCL. probably the best mistake evah.
no mistake, fate!
So what do you think of the show?
No matter stakes when FLCL is involved
Welcome
I typed "ACL injury"
No time for sleep
ITS THE CLIMAX
Indeed
I can watch this show a million times and it still will feel like watching it again for the first time.
I always seem to notice new things each time I watch it
Yup yup yup
its the music lol
none of your business Fr man this anime is a Legend.
gokartbuyer yea I just got finish watching it for the 3rd time today (I think it was my 3rd time🤔) and the had noticed a lot of things I didn't noticed the last time.
+My_Savior_ Hell yeah, smoke some sweet bud and watch all the crazy anime late at night.
+My_Savior_ dude staying awake for adult swim was life back then it was the SHIT.
+Placebo_Jones I think a lot of the people talking about that memory were too young for that back then...im 22 and smoke weed now but back when i watched inuyasha and yu yu hakusho and all that stuff stuff i was like 9-17. I didnt need weed when I was younger to make me feel alive.

jairo castiillo Hell yeah, you knew it was getting late when Inuyasha was coming on at about 4am.
There is a certain charm this series has that I don't think any other anime (or cartoon in general) has.
It's a bit similar to gurren lagann
It's a bit similar to gurren lagann
It's crazy, but down to earth.
Miniarts159 I guess it is pretty different
lil'tyrone, aka Yung Javier, aka papi chulo I mean, both are good options if you're looking for a mech anime that doesn't take itself too seriously.
At 33 in 2023, it’s still my fav anime. I’ll never forget walking to Sam Goody with my saved up allowance to buy the three dvds. Still have the poster proudly displayed.
Whoever created Fooly Cooly is a fucking genius!

And was probaly some what high
I remember being obsessed with The Pillows and Asian Kung-Fu Generation even though I didn't speak a lick of Japanese. Good times.
Lol ikr
+Mignon Hatton Bryant same
Edges I find that Japanese is one of the easiest languages to pick up... at least for an American in Asia. Nihongo dekimas-ka???
can you do japanese? にほんごをはなせますか。is what you were trying to say
Literally my favorite bands

Pillows sounds like a Japanese version of Dinosaur Jr.
If you have not listened to Dinosaur Jr. you'll probably immediately notice it on the album Without a Sound
this is the type of song that wants to keep burning and remember
Chief.......he really swung the bat
flcl was the reason why I got a motorcycle to be honest
I have a vespa because of this show lol.
I'm thinking of nuying a Pacer moped over the summer.
What kind ?
Tell me it's a yellow Vespa 180 SS.
It influenced me to play bass
Fooly cooly was one of those once in a lifetime surprise classics that can't be replicated
It's crazy how anime culture has changed when this came out I was very young anime wasn't cool at the time. The comments that say 7 years are even new to seeing this anime. It's amazing at the same time sad ppl we're bullied and forced out of this community by the same ppl who watch it now. Fucked up really
SAMURAI CHAMPLOO & FLCL FOOLY COOLY ARE FOREVER THE GREATEST!!!
1moblin2 nujabes or pillows is the real question
Possibly the biggest contributor to why I play the bass today.
This isn't the biggest contributor for me it's just the reason I play
you guys still playing bass?
This is one of those animes that was exactly what we needed at the exact time we needed it and it hit so right that it stayed with us.
Nostalgic for me in every way love this song
how is this not on itunes, this is awesome
+Masamune Noir use youtubetomp3

You're very right.
Lol...
Stan Mozeleski You disagree?

Deathnote was on the toonami block at one point?
I will never understand why this show and this song in specific feel so nostalgic to me. Best thing to watch after you finished watching/re-watching FLCL.
Truly a work of art.
That soundtrack is what makes FLCL so great.
Exactly! Which is why I haven't gotten hype over the announcement of the new seasons. Who's doing the soundtrack?
+Spizzmattic the motherfuckin' pillows :)
That’s Absolutely TRUE!!!
FLCL lives!!
Sylverstone Khandr Nope, new season got canceled yesterday, buy the manga kid
Andrew Ryan nah I couldn't anything about it being canceled
There has been no statement made about the new season being canceled.
This anime was way ahead of its time. Still my top 3.
s back when adult swim use to show nothing but anime everynight it was great cause adult swim took over the midnight run of toonami oh how i miss that adult swim staying up till like 3 or 4 before the started over watching shows like this case closed 009 witch hunter robin trigun etc.... god i feel old
now they just show anime on Saturdays and its usually super mainstream shōnen stuff they could get away with showing during the day.
Bruh, the only reason it's like that is because it's what used to be adult swim's anime block got turned into Toonami. (And fuck you mean shonen shit????? Yeah,it has Naruto and One piece but that's pretty much it. +magma cleric I remember staying up late past my bedtime to catch Trigun. Such good times. I got so mad when they stopped showing Trigun...

Ugh this comment is ages old but it made me miss paranoia agent n all the good stuff they played..
nothing pulls me back like FLCL and of course The Pillows. EMOTION?! IN THIS ECONOMY?!!?!
Man... Staying up late every Saturday night to watch this and a bunch of other shows was my absolute favorite part of my childhood. Unbelievable that this series is 20 years old. Where did all those years go?
That feel when

I love flcl so much and it's soundtracks, they're so nostalgic and make me happy

Lyrics:
Unseen, I strike the finishing blow
I've survived even this era
Beneath a illusory sky
I can hardly remember what I was afraid of
Secretly watching over the town
I step about carelessly
Setting fires everywhere
What was the name of that town, anyway?
Even if I'm responsible for all that grief, it's fine
I don't need your sympathy
Wherever I am, whoever I'm with
I just want to be alone
The shadow of a shadow stretches out
Filling the lonely days
Even though the world is tired of it
I'll still scream at them when I feel like it!
Not watching carefully, I've lost focus
But it's all right
I feel like I'm naked
Though the future I fled from is unhappy
I want to wake up
Even if I'm responsible for all that grief, it's fine
I don't need your sympathy
Wherever I am, whoever I'm with
I just want to be alone
The OST from the original FLCL is one of the only things in this world that can, without fail, make me depressed immediately. It's like a tangible wave of "time to die, buck-o" any time I even hear the first note of one of these songs and it carries out all the way through to the end and then some. *deep sigh

I've shed many tears for this song.

As much as I love this show, it really wouldn’t have been the same without The Pillows and their spot on perfect soundtrack for the series.

2 more seasons of FLCL confirmed on Toonami!
Adult swim almost the same but not quite
Adult Swim runs Toonami, and this will be during its Toonami block. It will be aired on Toonami. Make sense?

Seriously, this is my first experience with this anime and this mosquito girl gives me a feeling of betrayal lol
There will never be an anime like this ever again
Flcl is one of those to me where the older you get the more you can understand and relate to the characters. This also has to go down as of the best anime OSTs
This Anime! This Song! Is 777 to me. The best show in the world
I've seen this vid so many times and it never fails to make me happy again
2 MORE SEASONS OF FLCL COMING SOOOOONNNN!!! #TOONAMIFOREVER

FLCL is an experience more than it is an anime, it just radiates its own energy. It’s own Fooly Cooly energy.
Something tells me that this is where Studio Gainax hit its peak.
