Honestly this was a great review. I appreciate your opinions and constructive criticism that is backed up by solid info. I enjoyed learning about doom through this vid!
I had my time in my late teens and early 20s playing stuff like Halo and CoD. But when I was a kid, my uncle had doom II on his PC and I remember playing it anytime I was at his house. Disillusioned with modern gaming, I went back in my adulthood to playing Doom II and Quake, and I don't think there has ever been an FPS released that has improved on these two games. Anytime a new overproduced, big budget, AAA game comes out: I compare it to Doom II and Quake and ask myself, "is this more fun than those old games?". The answer is always no.
I'm 35 and grew up with these games. I get way more enjoyment out of them than nu-DOOM (which I have on XB1), so the fact I got this upgrade for free as you did is great. I've already streamed through all 4 eps of DOOM 1 and plan to stream DOOM 2 at some point. Completely agree with your comparison to Dark Souls and its sequel, although I'd never considered it before. And yes, Thy Flesh Consumed is ridiculously hard (especially two of the levels) but it's a good challenge. Definitely never be 'classic DOOM' to me though (eps 1-3).
I don't know that I'd say that the new doom games have superseded the originals. Everyone I know who played the new games inevitably ended up back at the originals.
With as accessible as the OG Doom has been through nearly every console generation, I can’t believe you say the reboot games are larger in popularity 🤦🏽♂️

Aubrey Hodges PS1 soundtrack is far superior.

Dude you missed the chainsaw in the first level of Doom2 by running straight off the ledge! Go left
Also can confirm it's a free download on Switch if you own Doom or Doom 2
