- Hey guys, what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained, and as requested, today we’re diving back into The Boys.
Portrayed by Dominique Mc-Elligott, Margaret "Maggie" Shaw, aka Queen Maeve is a major antagonist-turned-hero in the series.
First introduced in the boys comic books written by garth Ennis, a self-confessed hater of superheroes, Queen Maeve is a parody of the DC superheroine Wonder Woman. And one of the most complicated characters in the show.

I realized Maeve never bothers acting like a Ancient Greek Amazon like Wonder Woman. In fact, she uses her real name in her superhero persona. This basically makes her the opposite of Homelander who acts like a wholesome Superman and doesn’t have a real name (he used to go by John but I think that is a reference to John Doe)
That's because wonder woman is an actual Amazon lol.

cool fact is that Queen Maeve is actually a historical and mythological figure in Ireland and Dominique Elliot is an Irish Actress
The character, Maggie Shaw, appears to be Irish-American given her surname.
@@DogFoxHybrid I don't think Shaw is really an Irish name. It's more English or Scottish from a quick google. George Bernard Shaw is a pretty famous Irish playwright and while he was born in Dublin he was of English descent

The show runners said that this is the end for Maeve, that they wanted to give her a happy ending.
Fun Fact: her "sword" isn't actually a real, it's just a metal prop by Vought. She found this out the hard way in the comics.

@@druid5931 She rushed Homelander with her sword but it just harmlessly bent over his head. He taunted her with something like "it's a fake sword, you dumb bitch" before he ripped her head off and threw it at Starlight.
The fact that she made homelander bleed is a huge feat in itself.

Queen maeve abilities always felt confusing and also underwhelming, until you realize her punch actually gave HL a nosebleed. The first time i think HL has ever bled from a punch
One weird thing about almost all superhero movies is that their clothes are as invulnerable as their wearers. Shouldn't Homelander laser eyes destroy her clothes?
The actress played her so well, HAF too, especially with that straight hair and headband thing.
All Maeve’s survival told me is that their plan to have Soldier Boy kill Homelander was just a failed idea from the beginning

@@John-Doe-Yo idk Maeve took a full blast and wasn’t even hurt by it at all. All of her injuries were from Homelander. The most I would suspect to be able to hurt Homelander is that soldier boy would have to like focus the blast as much as he can to increase the power of it, cause whatever he did at the end of the series is nowhere near enough.
The most I see being done is possibly losing his powers, but even then I’m not convinced cause he was created differently than every other hero. Also kimiko regained her powers when she took more V in, I would assume Homelander produces it naturally since he was able to produce a child who had it in him without being injected, something considered impossible by everyone at Vought, including Homelander and the man who created him, Vogelbaum i thino
It worked on her tho. It turned her to a normal human. Of Maeve's powers is insane durability, arguably the only thing that saved her from being burnt up while the V was burnt out of her. The plan wasn't utlimately to kill him with Soldier boy but to make him vulnerable so that he can be killed. Before her every other hero that was blasted by soldier boy didn't have any super durability that we know of.
Also the V in homelander is no different from any other supe. They did after all take Soldier boy's sperm to make Homelander, which indicates that the V changes you on a genetic level, basically altering all your DNA so it doesn't matter whether you were born with it or injected. They only pumped him with even more V from a very young age to make him as strong and powerful as he was. So even being born with it didn't make him as strong as SB by default.
Also it takes 1 injection and you have super powers for life which means that they don't produce V, instead it binds with the genes, even the blood and reproductive organs and alters their genetic structure to give them powers. Producing it would mean they have organs especially designed to produce it like a natural hormone but it's a man made substance. So even born with it you can't produce it naturally.
@@chiefbologna5719 Maeve took a full blast from SB and lost her powers. If I’d doesn’t kill him outright you can just walk up to him and kill him
It would've removed Homelander's powers. After SB's energy blast, you can just straight up shoot Homelander to kill him.
Kamiko, didn't take temp V, she took the one that gives powers completely. I was sad to see that Maeve lost her powers, because she was the surprisingly the morale compass in the show even though fear held her back.
I don't understand how she survived the fall after getting blasted by SB. If the explosion did not kill her, then the fall should had killed her now that she had no powers. Kimiko got blasted and impaled and she almost died showing that the effect of the blast is immediate.
I'm really glad they ended her arc in such an epic way, and I think even if she hadn't survived the explosion, it' also would've been a good send off for the character (on a side note, I love how mean she's to Hughie, i'ts not fair, really, but it's still so funny)

Maeve's definitely my favorite character in the series; Black Noir, Butcher, The Female, Frenchie...Cripples, bastards and broken things.
The plane crash in Season 1 was so messed up and insane! They could have landed the plane in the water and waited for the rescue team to arrive. That's what I would have done.
Homelander can fly and super strong right? He would have stop or slowed the planes momentum easily. He would pushed it to land in water. Could have tilted it to slow it down faster. There are thousands of things he could have done to save everyone, or at least most of them. He chose to do none of things and let everyone die.
Granting the weight of the plane and attempting to move or slow its fall doesn’t damage it too heavily. Still, Homelander wasn’t even willing to try any of these options since he figured he could spin this tragedy in his and Vought’s favor (and he’s too lazy to ever be willing to potentially struggle in the event his power isn’t enough to resolve a situation), as Vought always manages to adapt to any potential negativity publicity.

But sadly, even if Homelander DID think of that, he probably would have abandoned those passengers anyway simply because it might have made his employers even happier now that the military wanted Supes in the army because terrorists are apparently SO deadly that ONLY supes in the military can stop them!
I checked the other replies and didn't see it so I'll point out that, the reason he demanded the plane crash was because the entire reason it became unflyable.

I wanna know how the nuke blast from soldier boy would effect an immortal supe like storm front. Like without their powers they would be 100 something year old people so their bodies would be different either way

Queen Maeve was such an amazing character in The Boys. Her pessimistic view on the world, with her firsthand experience with how the world works, watching her eventually become the hero that she always wanted to be was so fulfilling.
I'm seriously glad that Maeve didn't find out that her sword was simply a prop during her fight with Homelander, as in the comics she finds out her sword is a prop and ends up being killed because of this. Eric Kripke understood each and every character in The Boys, and was fully capable to translate the comics to the silver screen seamlessly. The minor changes that he made to certain characters only worked in their favor as well, and made the show that much more enjoyable.
Also, Kimiko used the regular version of Comp-V. She knew it wouldn't have any negative effects on her since she already survived her initial dosage of Comp-V. So Kimiko will have full access to her powers in Season 4 and until the show ends.
My only wish for The Boys going forward, is that the rest of The Boys will eventually become supes as well. It would level the playing field with Homelander gaining popularity with the world, even with his true nature being exposed.
They can explain this with Homelander attempting to overthrow the White House, planning to make supes the only superpower in the world and it's government. Factor in that Butcher and Hughie taking Temp-V multiple times and will eventually succumb to the effects, they will have to take Comp-V to negate the negative effects of Temp-V and save their lives. With the rest of The Boys taking Comp-V, as with Homelander and his legion of supes would definitely be more than the Boys could handle.

Aw shit you finally did it you finally posted one of my favorite/sympathetic characters from Amazon prime’s the boys Queen Maeve she truly is a Queen and beyond deserves the happy ending she got in the season final of the 3rd season of the boys.
I think she will end up coming back for some reason although I don’t know the story from the comics. I’d like to see her return in some way it feels like her character arc isn’t over or fleshed out enough.

Can you cover the main characters from the British All-4/Channel 4 Series “Misfits”? it’s such a good series that doesn’t get nearly enough recognition. My favourite character would have to be Simon or Nathan but the whole cast is great up until the end of season 3 when all of their storylines are resolved and a new cast takes over, imo ruining the show lol. Yeah if you’d consider it just watch Seasons 1-3 :) cheers
I really like this show but season 3 was all build up and the last fight really felt like the actors weren't given enough time to make it look real. Also the power-scaling def got disregarded this season by A LOT

Why did they make Vito a fag in the Sopranos, and Maeve a lezbo in The Boys? Adding a token 'blank' is always offensive to said minority.
Homelander is not a psychopath but indeed a narcissist, they both have deficits in opposite fields of thought, Psychopaths have poor top-down / idea then feeling based thinking and Narcissists have poor bottom-up / feeling then idea based thinking. Psychopaths purely use feelings to pursue their goal logically much like Autistic people, and narcissists use ideas and cognition to reach emotional highs such as love and power.

I think that because she had previously had powers that using V again wasn't that dangerous, unlike normal humans who'd never been supes where the older you are the more dangerous it is and a lot of people just die from it

How come Maeve survives the blast from soldier boy when everyone else dies in from single hit? If supes with super strength can injure or penetrate Homelander why don't they just sneak on him and cut his head off killing him easily? Why they would need soldier boy to kill him at all?

She was the fourth most powerful supe. Stormfront was the second most powerful in the comics and was in the show was the first existing and third most powerful supe. Only being overpowered by Maeve working in tandem with starlight and Kimiko.

I like mauve in the show. She was written really well, had to overcome great obstacles and pain to get free from homelander.
She is probably the best written female character I've seen for a while. Today they are all man hating assholes usually but with mauve she she had a great arch and didn't fall into the current state of most female characters (almost invincible and hardly get a scratch, make quips about being a woman and how hard it is blah blah).
I'm sick to death of these female character types, you don't have to be an asshole to be a good female character. And the boys proves it. The women in that show are the right way to write in social issues while still developing a character that is well rounded.
Take she Hulk for example....I knew from the first frame that it was going to be terrible and I couldn't sit through 10mins of it. From the get go it was all girl power, men hating, women have it harder bullshitte. Its bad writing and character development and it's getting slammed in the press because of it. I understand representation is important but when the characters are wholey unbelievable and cringe city I turn it off.
The boys even made fun of it with the "girls get it done" parody. And they nailed it.
