    Having just commented on your reaction to the piano version of this, with a hope that it wouldn't be too long before you got to this one (I know how busy a Channel can get), you can't imagine how pleased I was to see this pop into my notifications not 30 minutes later. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
    It's been a bit over five years now since she posted this, then set it all aside to concentrate on her University studies. Hopefully that will be done soon and she'll return to playing, provided she doesn't go on to do post-graduate. One of the best guitar players I've ever heard in over 70 years; it would be a shame to lose that talent. But things change. Love happens. Babies happen. Priorities shift, and life goes on. Still, fingers crossed. : -)
    As an aspiring guitar player yourself, you might find this one she did at 14 a bit more accessible. It's her fantastic cover of Gary Moore's 'The Loner'. She makes her guitar absolutely cry and beg for mercy, but it's not nearly as technically difficult, I'll usually go and listen to this one after 'Sonata' just to bring my heart rate back to normal. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/9e9AyDXx19Q/w-d-xo.html
    Enjoy.

    Tina Setkic plays with a hairband underneath the strings up next to the machine head so that each string is muted when open (not fingered).
    Since 2016, she's dropped off the radar. The common wisdom was that she was getting ready to move on with her life, go to college, and couldn't keep up her practice schedule. Plus she was probably tired of haters posting that her vids were fake.
    There's a vid of her guitar teacher, Dr. Viossy (the actual arranger) performing it, too. And even a split-screen vid of both of them doing it separately, with one audio in the left channel and the other in the right. They recorded the drums and the rhythm guitar first, and then each of them played the lead part. The two performances are so near-identical that almost every note in the split-screen vid sounds centered.

    • @musicriver9619
      @musicriver9619 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apart from the hairband, some other things to note:
      1) Holds the guitar in the classical left leg (raised) position, not her hands. Gives better fret stretches.
      2) Right hand strums freely, more emotion, most people use a finger on the guitar to locate position.
      3) Shreds with left hand pinky, usually too slow and weak for most players.
      4) Holds pick in thumb and first finger, so tapping with remaining three.
      5) Enjoys playing the guitar more than you do watching her.
      Since the comment was made about playing with others, she was also matched with guitar hero III. To play the game the guitar is plugged into the machine and synced to the score, missed notes displayed as lightening bolts. Instead of the guitar, her video audio was plugged in. The result is about timing and note.

    • @DougRayPhillips
      @DougRayPhillips 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right... "teacher" was the wrong word. I've seen notes from other people that he was literally her teacher when she learned this piece. But they may have been just guessing, too. Other folks say no, he wasn't. Since he put his version up on YT in 2012, her version could just be a simple cover like what she does with any other existing piece. At minimum, he must've supplied her and her teacher a copy of the same backing track he used. Maybe that's all he did.

    I'm here to help. Just for fun, I took the time to go through the video (which offered a fretboard graphic) and counted how many notes Tina hits on the way through this piece. She plays for 5 minutes and 58.72 seconds and hits 2540 notes for an average of 7.08 notes per second for the whole piece.
    Watching Tina will either make you want to pick up a guitar and learn how to play or put down your guitar because you'll never, ever, be that good. I'm on the second side of that coin. LOL
    Check out "Eruption" and put it against Eddie Van Halen's own performance. Not saying she's better, since Eddie was the one who composed the piece in the first place (it is harder to be the innovator than the imitator; however, you know....); however, she gives him a run for his money in talent and technical skill for sure. Bettin' he would agree with me. He is one of my idols, after all.

    Just incredible. I had seen a couple Tina S. performances but not this one. Reading the other comments here it seems she is yet another child music prodigy. The other current guitar prodigy, I know if, is 11 year old Taj Farrant from Australia. Marcin is a 19 year old crazy good guitarist and his version of this piece is beyond description, but sadly his videos get blocked. On the Beethoven reaction I mentioned Alma Deutscher, a true modern day Mozart is likely the most talented of your generations music prodigies. Angelina Jordan is the most unique prodigy since she specializes in vocals and we don't know of another. Daniel, we know you and most of us love our prog rock which often covers classical music. My favorite prog band is ELP and I would suggest reacting to their album, Pictures at an Exhibition which was a classical music piece composed by Mussorgsky.

    My favourite covers, in reverse order, Steve Vai's "For the Love of God", Jason Becker's 'Altitudes' and, best of all, Gary Moore's 'The Loner', which brings me to tears. It may not be the most difficult of the pieces (and she's incredible on all) but it's beautiful...it's Gary Moore... can't praise it more than that.
    P. S. Can't fathom why virtually no one reacts to my top two... Seems shredding and fast fingers is what impresses most (though I suppose familiarity with the pieces may also contribute? 🤔).

    The saving souls at the Crossroads comment under the video is a nod to A movie named Crossroads starring Ralph "Karate KId" Macchio, the late Joe Seneca and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai and a piece of guitar music called Eugene's trickbag which is based on another classical piece by Paganini.
    Vai and Macchio do some legendary "head cuttin' " in that movie. Head cuttin' is a slang term.
    She does a cover of that as well. If you havent seen that movie you're missing out.

He was much inspired by Deep Purple and Rainbow's Riche Blackmore, but also (like Blackmore) inspired by classical like Bach and the like. He is among the top ranking guitarists and I've heard stuff from him reminding of this. Unfortunately I'm not that familiar with his production that I can give you any more precis pointers. But just search Yngwie Malmsteen on youtube and you'll have plenty to explore.

    She is so technically gifted. She can move around the fretboard amazingly well. I heard just one 'mood', and that is hard to sustain over the entire piece. In my opinion, distorted electric guitar simply does not have the emotional range that the music needs in order breathe and come alive.
    Even her body language suggests boredom. I love Beethoven, and would love to see more reactions to 'classical' music. Rhapsody in Blue anyone?

    • @commentatron

      Time dilation; as she approaches the speed of light it appears to lengthen.

    • @0ParisFrance
      @0ParisFrance 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a 24 fret guitar.

    • @markburrows1179
      @markburrows1179 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@0ParisFrance Thank you. I should have counted the frets, that would have been the logical thing to do. Two of my guitars have 20 frets, my acoustic, and my Strat. But my Gibson LP Custom has 22 frets, but because it is a fatter neck it has the illusion of being shorter. Then in this video, Tina S's guitar and headstock is black, the background is black, she is wearing dark clothes, and she is sitting, then the fretboard itself is a light color which makes it stand out in contrast and likely adds to the illusion of it being extra long, almost sitar like, but not quite.
