    I would recommend using a primer before you pained it to give it a more arcade feel. There is a website that also offers custom vinyl for graphics. You could also use some resin on the wood to give it that nice glossy smooth feel. All in all great job guys

    This is exactly what I want to build. I'll probably either sand down the panels smoove before painting or just use contact paper. I'd also set the monitor vertical if your planning to play any actual arcade games through MAME.

  • @JonnyRetro
    @JonnyRetro 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I like the video production and the premise but there's no information, or evidence if you like, to back the $100 arcade build claims. I think a brief run down of the cost would prove a very different story. Because you had various parts lying about doesn't mean they're freely available to everyone, making the $100 claim pointless. When you've factored in all these things: Paint, Buttons and Sticks (which don't look budget!), Plywood, Perspex, Raspberry Pi (maybe just a zero?), Adapter for non-hdmi screen, USB encoders with cables, RGB led lights with remote, Second hand monitor, Paper to print logo, Metal brackets for screen, Hardware and padlock for door, Velcro, SD card for Pi, Power cables. Sorry, thats not $100.
    Probably missed something but I think you see what i'm saying. I just think its wrong to say you built this for so cheap when thats clearly non true. At least attempt to give a list of the costs for your viewers at the end!

    Not actually 100 if u dont have the pi already or the wood and wires or access to free monitor. Closest I got was 40 for wood, 60 for jamma card, 40 for jamma cable buttons and wiring and power supply, 80 for an old 19" monitor from a site that does refurbished monitors.

  • @Don-h4d
    @Don-h4d 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This design is all wrong. Or better, it's lacking of any wise design choice. You are trying to replicate the classic bartop arcade cabinet style but that was designed around a bulky CRT monitor and huge motherboard with a mess of cables. Our modern components are small and thin taking very little space, and the unit should be re-designed around them.
    Also that unitis too small to be a 2-players cabinet and too big to be a single player unit.
    How many times will you use it with a friend VS how many times you will casually play with it alone?
    You can plug a controller for those rare 2 players occasions, as like the NeoGeo Mini did.
    This should be something for casual gaming that sits on your desk without taking much space, I'd say something with a screen not bigger than 10-12 inches.
    The top part is unnecessary, the speakers can be placed anywhere else (I'd make a few holes under the screen or at the sides). In a small unit like this stereo sound does not even makes much sense. One small woofer would be enough, considering the most of pre-90's games have Mono sound and you won't need to pump it loud.
    The rounded profile you went for just makes the cutting more challenging. A simple and slightly inclined L-shape will do the job.
    Also the whole unit can be much slimmer and compact, no need of all that empty space inside.
    If you use a cheap Raspberry Pi 3 A+ it's so smal you can stick anywhere under the control pad or behind the screen and route a power cable where you need it.
    The controls pad should be larger by height, and with a lower profile, that way you are not forced to push your palms on an edge but resting them completely on the control pad.
    The buttons layout should be similar to the NeoGeo AES, the coin and the start buttons should be in the middle, no need for an additional drilled piece on the front that makes unnecessary thickness.
    I'm in the process to build my own since no design I see around fits in my taste, both aesthetically and functionality wise.

    Nice. Sadly, unless a person has access to the power tools required to do this, its not cost effect. $100 for the cab parts, $1000 for the power tools. Might be a good way to justify power tools that could be put to use on future projects.

You did not even download a template to cut the arcade, you drew it by hand. WTF??? You can see the screws between wood panels, you did not even bother to install the buttons the right way, they are backwards!!! and that is with those cables coming out of te top of that door? 6:47 WTF?? How can this take a year?? With all that equipment you had you should have done a way better job.

    It's on the amateurish side. Buttons are backwards. Use led buttons. Get a professional vinyl print. Your marquee looks like it was printed out of an inkjet printer. I would put plexiglass on the monitor and on the controller. It makes a big different and blings it out hiding the imperfections.

  • @isaacdestura7495

    Btw you don't even need fancy tools to do this. The tools here cost way too much. You just need a drill (with the right drill bits for the button sizes) and two manual handsaws, one for straight and one for the curves.

    I don't think you've heard of primer. You even say if you had to do it over, you would use better paint. The paint was not the issue; you needed to use primer before the paint. Today I purchased two gallons of Kilz2 White Primer for $25. One gallon was $19 and a quart was $10. A quart of primer could have covered over the ugly plywood pattern making it look like you used solid wood after painting.
