  • The Detailing BEGINS on my Honda Civic project car! In this video I show you how I prep the exterior for Polishing and Ceramic Coating the paint! This is the WHEELS OFF Deep Cleaning video that you've been waiting for! Let's GO!
Exterior Detailing is one of the most satisfying and transformation worthy things you can do to a car. A CLEAN build starts with having a clean car (literally). The 20 year old paint on my Honda Civic is in MUCH need of a professional detail. So using my expertise, I wanted to bring you all along from start to finish on this crazy detailing journey. The goal is to achieve as much GLOSS and CLARITY out of the paint utilizing professional products and techniques. This is not a beginners course, but I have tried to make this easy to follow for people who want to do the same!
For the exterior, we begin with a traditional soap and water wash using an electric Karcher 1700 pressure washer. The car is then given a foam bath with Koch Chemie GSF snow foam to dwell and then agitate with a TRC Cyclone Pad. I knockout all intricate dirty areas with a Soft brush and all purpose cleaner to lift deep dirt out of cracks. Following a rinse, we CHEMICALLY decontaminate the car with a fallout remover. Rinse, and then dry. Once the car is cleaned, we get it up in the air for a wheels off detail and arch steaming. Each wheel is thoroughly cleaned individually. The steamer is used on the fender wheels, suspension, and exhaust to deep clean without the mess. The arches are restored to black using Solution Finish.
From there, we jump into claying the paint to smooth out any rough surface and prepare it for polishing. For this I used the TRC Clay Bar and Clay towel with Optimum No-Rinse. Since my door had been repainted, i took the opportunity to wet sand it to remove any unwanted texture in the clear. Lastly, I show you how I do rock chip touch up with the Dr. Colorchip system. Because once I coat over a chip with the ceramic coating, it cannot be repaired. This is ALL in the prep before we jump to part 3 of this video series. Once we start polishing and coating, this Honda Civic will look the best it ever has.
