This is an impossible occurrence. Two of the greatest violinist of all time trying to communicate. I thought Heifetz might walk by and say hello. Gitlis's great courage in playing the violin in the manner that he did and does, in the face of his peers(Heifetz, Milstein, Oistrakh, Francescatti) is an inspiration. Ms. Hahns' courage in playing as close to perfect as any human being ever in the face of Heifetz's legacy is also amazing to me.
Mr Gitlis is one of our most inspirational and virtuoso violinist for his Century and Generation, Great Model and Treasure for everyone.Bravo , Welldone and Farewell !
Thank you HIliary, a treasured moment listening to a great master whose musical life spans difficult times, many changes. It's special for me to see you two interact in a casual way instead of having the master on show eg I. Stern, Perlman, Kogan, Zukerman w/specific agendas to address. Gentle reality, just chatting. Maestro Gitlis is inspirational, a musical force in my life. Perhaps it's my age, but I feel as he does about teaching, drawing from a student's intuitive & often learning myself.
Music IS life!!!! Love this interview....thanks for sharing! A very wise man indeed. I think he has living all figured out in a wonderful and beautiful way...
It's rather urgent advice from a 90 year old man who realizes his life isn't infinite. I don't say that in a morose way at all--Ivry said so himself. Nothing he says should be discarded as irrelevant--life is life, no matter what century we're in. Ivry Gitlis' words are probably more relevant now than ever as we move further and further away from the sentimental and passionate world Ivry Gitlis belongs to and into the fast-paced, materialistic world you and I belong to.
He's not just one of my favourite Musicians, he is one of my favourite people! I love the way he interacts with young women...I am 85 now and I want to grow older and and more lusty like him! BRING IT ON!!
It is interesting to see them both together! They both did interviews a long time ago for the dvd "Art of the Violin" she was much younger then, and he is still a character!
Ohhh, man! I just had to pause at 11:34 and take a breather because she just doesn't get it. I don't know if she's still in her late teens early 20's when she did this but it gets more and more astonishing how many accomplished artists in every field don't see the spirituality and total connectedness of everything in the universe.
its displayed in their different styles. hilary is a bit of a robot and machine when it comes to violin. ivry believes that every note should have a voice. his philosophy on violin isn't about performance, its about speaking. thats why music is life to him.
yes, their personalities are different. HH appears more analytical and organized in her thoughts and expression probably because she is the interviewer.
his entire musical philosophy is perfect and its why he is the finest violinist of our time. some will accept that, others will look deeper and that is where artist was hiding.
Oh No! He so wanted to record more, I would cut off bits to hear what he had to say over dinner! Thanks Hilary it is great to have heard this, but so much greater to have had more!
I dont separate music from life says Ivry, and then in the background starts the lyrics from State of Independence by Jon Anderson/Vangelis (in the version by Donna Summer). Nice coincidence !
There is documentation of how Marlon Brandon handled annoying interviewers.Hilary obviously has good intentions. One day she will understand that she was in the presence of greatness. Not perfection, greatness.
I think both have things to learn about life and eternity as do all of us. It was an opportunity she didn't want to miss. SHe means well despite the convoluted communication styles and content. What makes them great is not so much their talent but how the lived it and helped others to reach higher in their understanding, emulation, and dreams..
Maybe I should listen to Hilary's playing more often, but I think mr. Gitlis goes more to the edge of the musical limits when perforrming. And yeah, Hilary seems that way because she is the interviewer but if mr Gitlis would be interviewing Hilary there wouldn't be much of a difference I think :P It may sound a bit negative but I think mr Gitlis is a lot more imaginative than Hilary (and most other musicians) So you were right with your first comment :P
What do you mean by that? I think they are both very intellectual and impulsive (emotional), Ivry Gitlis is just more unique, that's why he seems more emotional : )
Hilary-Ivry singled you out as a representative of cold perfection ina youtube about inspiration made in 2009.His development continued especially in his more mature years. There is hope for all of us.Forget audiences, forget career,be the best that you can be,you got a good head start on the instrument.I hope that one day you can somehow make it up to him for your question-do you still perform?
IG is a wise clown ,a courageous man,at the absolute top of the violin profession today.HH is a really fine violinist, but has remained confined by her upbringing,to remaining a North American woman.
Did anyone notice Hillary Hahn's facial expressions approximated Ginette Neveu facial expressions/( or were "photoshopped to make you think of Ginette Neveu?)

"I'm here with....." (Low scary voice), "Ivry Gitlis!!!"

Mr. Gitlis is an icon, and a character!! Thanks for the interview.

Hahn is a tad uptight and down-to-earth whereas Gitlis is clearly as high as a kite! What a mensch!
That also describes their playing
RIP gitlis!
Most epic violinist ever!
9.27: Hahn: "well, do you still perform?" Gitlis: "...I never perform!" and the exchanges around this question speaks volumes!
Music IS life!!!! Love this interview....thanks for sharing! A very wise man indeed. I think he has living all figured out in a wonderful and beautiful way...
watching these two together is amazing.
They are both great violinist with different styles stop all the hate

wow l love your comment about Ivry, absolutely agree !!! lovely person! always in our heart ❤️!
The old master is taken by her beauty. And he's a master of flirting. She never quite stumped him. He rolled with it like he rolls with the violin.
Masht Ali AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
the fuck is wrong with you
Nevermind, you are correct.
Thanks for this one. I found some of Ivry's comments very thought provoking myself so well done!
He's not just one of my favourite Musicians, he is one of my favourite people! I love the way he interacts with young women...I am 85 now and I want to grow older and and more lusty like him! BRING IT ON!!
of course, the two people with the greatest bach chaconne interpretations would meet up some day!
My favourite violinist together, sharing their experience..
Rest In Peace Gitlis
It is interesting to see them both together! They both did interviews a long time ago for the dvd "Art of the Violin" she was much younger then, and he is still a character!
Hilary: There's this recording here on TH-cam of Gitlis playing Valse Sentimentale by Tchaikovsky... That's all I'm going to say....
I adore him already, and after just hearing Hilary talk, I adore her too!

"What can you find in the music that isn't there already?" Life lesson.

amazing interview,.. thanks Hilary
Elle est très bien cette vidéo. Pour les fans ç'est un moment magique de voir Mr Ivry GITLIS et Madame Hilary HAHN discuter ensemble autour d'un café.
I love him. I would be honored to meet him and learn from him. What wonderful vibrato. He is such a character.
Hilary is so patient, i love her ❤
Aha...thats why Ivry was late sunday on the festival masters of the bow! He was meeting Hilary! Great interview and meeting!
Hilary is so sweet and kind.
They're both so adorable :D
So sweet at the end... she says, "We can wrap this part up and just keep talking." Very nice.
RIP Ivry
Damn this guy seems to be fearless, I´ll try to be like him... n to live life as free as he does...
Hilary, thanks again! Did not know of this interesting gentleman before.

Hilary Hahn is greatness.
What a guy, he’s lowkey flirting with her and it’s very awkward lmaooo. I don’t blame him though lol

What do you mean by that? I think they are both very intellectual and impulsive (emotional), Ivry Gitlis is just more unique, that's why he seems more emotional : )

Hunt Richardson there’s no such thing as right brain and left brain
Genius meets genius!
Elijah what do you mean
@@Scriabin_fan ;-;
@@Scriabin_fan bruh do you go to school
you sense the love and yet age is the disease that quarantines the life of beauty from truth.
"Why do you think I have to answer? Not everything I said was a question!"
a moring departure our friend. to say good would be but a tiring string to my senses.
Rest in peace
I can only imagine how fun your dinner was....
Keep talking !!!!! Why do you stop him Hahn?
what was the question again? ;-j
The GIANT and the young girl...
IG is a wise clown ,a courageous man,at the absolute top of the violin profession today.HH is a really fine violinist, but has remained confined by her upbringing,to remaining a North American woman.
I have exercised some restraint, because of HH's fantastic recording of the Lark Ascending, and her obvious great shyness and good intentions.
@huntrichardson haha couldn t be more right
And then there were none
Did anyone notice Hillary Hahn's facial expressions approximated Ginette Neveu facial expressions/( or were "photoshopped to make you think of Ginette Neveu?)
Interesting......all of his remarks were oblique and open ended
what a missed opportunity! you don't speak the same language, Hilary

wrap up?? why? everything he says is important. oh...JUST when he was in his train of thought.
