Most people do not realize that the year after Eddie left, was the lowest rated season ever of SNL, and still is, and it took them years to recover. It was so bad that they literally started the 1986 season apologizing for how bad the last season was. That is true, the first sketch in 19866 was an apology for being so bad the last season.
