I went looking for receipts.. Based upon Memphis' Population I've determined that you are correct. Memphis is punching way above it's weight. I thought Michael Cage was from there but that he's from Memphis... Arkansas.
Big David Willard..(UNLV) He was the first Dude I met on Chula Vista HS Basketball Team my short time there. I remember him being a very enthusiastic, 6'7" 15 year old with a size 17 shoe. It took me until 50 for my foot to get that big.
Duke literally went 37-3 the very previous year. Nobody mentions them. Ever. Except to ridicule them. OTOH, EVERYONE MENTIONS UNLV’s “87 TEAM AS some type of underrated team. They weren’t.
This was in reference to the Dana Kirk scandal where he was forced to vacate all tournament appearances from 1982 to 1986 including their 1985 final four appearance. He even spent some time in jail for the incident. Memphis was ineligible for the 1987 ncaa tournament due to ncaa violations but returned in 1988 and Finch's teams only missed the post season once between 1988-1997.

Dana Kirk who was the coach of the University of Memphis in 1985 Memphis went to the Final Four and Dana Kirk bet against his own team that's why he was fired
Memphis basketball, no other city in the country can produce this kind of talent!!

thanks Robert northern, I love the time, simple ESPN studio format, theme music and of course Bob Ley...lol.
Jerry Tarkanian was a part of the AAA club. His teams played anybody, anytime, anywhere.

Lost it at the foul line and the 3 pt line, which is a trademark for us down thru history
Just lost one to houston, missing free throws. 3/15/21
That UNLV team finished with an astounding 37-2 record. One of the greatest ever, yet never gets mentioned in the same breath. Very biased.
