- The RWD Toyota's have been a permanent part of Irish Rallying over the last 40 years and always provide great entertainment as most of the time the drivers are looking out the side windows! Are these all 4-age engines??? I had a 4-age in my 93 Corolla

Basically all the USDM 4A-GE’s are roughly the same with minor differences. I had a shop car that was a Geo Prism with some pretentious name like GSI or something. Same old 4A as my buddy’s MR2. Sounded great reving out a beater like that.
I'm impressed that the AE86 and KP61 are still running in RALLY. Japanese people today have already forgotten how wonderful and interesting it is.

You know the twin cam 4A-GE series was a copy of the Cosworth BDA used in the MK1 escort

it takes a lot of bravery to throw a live axle rwd corolla down a dirt road that fast
I'm willing to bet you that by the sound, some are using sequential gearboxes and when you get to that level of investment the live axle is long gone.
Nearly all of them still run the live axle, uprated or otherwise. A few of the better funded ones will have sequential box. If you see wheel arch flares on these cars they are likely to be running a Ford live axle such as an Atlas (this applies mainly to the kp60s in this video) which have a ready supply of parts to modify, though expensive. Some of the AE86 will be running Ford type 9 5 speed. Though the T50 shifts nice they have a tendency not to last well when used hard.

Is that roundish hatchback an E110 Corolla? If so, I thought that car was FWD, with an AWD version in the WRC. I don't know much about this Corolla, and I can't find anything about a RWD version.
