I can not speak for every else but I found Dark Shadows just kept getting better. The end of Dark Shadows to me was better than the beginning although I enjoy the entire series. I was devastated when Dark Shadows ended. Then there was a remake and as soon as I got used to the portrayed the series ended. Dark Shadows is a classic!
I had gotten used to Ben Cross as Barnabas and Martine Beswick as Julia when they had to have Angelique return from the past in Julia's body. Then they yanked the series off the air leaving us hanging!
It seemed to me that Operation Desert Storm had a lot to do with its demise. It had quite a lot of prime time news coverage that pre-empted Dark Shadows and other shows, and audiences were unable to find it or make it a regular viewing habit. And with a serial storyline (still uncommon in 1991) its irregular appearance was fatal. A pity; it had some really nice bits (like the laundering icons on Victoria's black dress being regarded as witch markings in 1795: "She read them easily: Permanent Press. Cold Iron. Tumble Dry.' Funny the stuff you remember for 30 years),
I only remember scant bits and pieces of this TV Show, but it looks to have had a rather successful run. That music...to this day, feels sad, tragic, dark, heavy ..and yes, frightening. I can't, for the death (Just kidding!), life of me, remember any happy moments from this series. Not even one. Oh well, it is what it is!
i am a life long fan of ds since it first started I used to race home from school to watch it I even went to several dark shadows festivals a great time to be had by all
The 1840 storyline is very underrated. It was late in the series when the storywriters were starting to run out of ideas. Many fans consider it part of the show's decline. True, it's not as classic as 1795 or 1897, but there is a lot of great stuff---the great buildup to 1840, Gerard Stiles, the head of Judas Zachary, vampire Roxanne Drew, the stairway through time, the death of Angelique. The Parallel Time 1840 story, with Bramwell Collins and no supernatural elements until the very end, is what killed off Dark Shadows.
Also I would like to correct myself about the Parallel Time 1840 comment. I bought the entire DVD set(the coffin set) after I made my first post. I watched it all again(awesome) and was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the Parallel 1840 story. When I first watched it many years ago I didn't like it(hard time seeing Frid as anyone but Barnabas, and didn't have enough monsters for my liking) but seeing it again recently I really liked it.
I am going to have-to make the commitment to watch the entire series, in order to know what the Hell is going on. These storylines are like Days of Our Lives on Steroids - and LSD!
In my binge watching of Dark Shadows, I haven't made it quite this far yet. I'm at around episode 960, where Bruno tried to have Chris the werewolf kill off Jeb. This is a great series. If I had been a writer of this show, I would have brought back Adam to help Quentin, Julia, and Barnabas deal with Jeb, Bruno, and the other Leviathans. I also would have had Adam marry Carolyn shortly after the Leviathans were defeated.
The series starting repeating the same storylines starting with Gerard haunting Collinwood in 1970, right after the 1995 storyline. That is when I started watching from the beginning of the series again.
I love it I swear I do I wish you could have went on to about 1980 or as long as I could have run it I knew things would have changed but it was some kind of good
Don’t get me wrong, Barnabas was fine no matter what, but he looks so much better in this episode without the gel in his hair. They should’ve kept it that way. 😍
All these dates back and forth, never did get to watch this as an adult 😒 plus when I was 10 I didn't even understand what was happening, so 🙃 😑 I'm lost wish they would just show this whole series again on a regular TV station that would play the entire series. From the start to the finish during this covid time they should have done it. That would have been awesome !
You couldn't pay me to stay in Collinwood if you gave it to me and a billion dollars behind it nope Collinwood even sounds like a cemetery or a nursing home hell to the no "BOO" if something would have moved behind me like all these old abandoned hospitals and spooky places in Ghost Hunters and paranormal and all that stuff if something would have moved behind me or touch me on my shoulder or been in a room I was sleeping and I would have s*** bricks😳😆😆😆🤣 and cemeteries what" nope it all started because Barnabas got caught up with the wrong blankety blank blank blank🤭🤭🤫🤫🤫🤷♂️
I agree! It looks like the cameras were being operated by 13 year olds from AV class. I thought the time shifting storyline was boring too. I think that's what led to the decline in ratings in '70-'71.
@@recordmanmusic Yeah, I did too. At the time, I was less critical of the camera work and occasional stilted acting. I watch clips now and am kind of stunned at the unintentional amateurishness.
Is this story fooling us? Julia died in 1840 and Barnabas Collins finds her grave in 1970. Then, How can she hold Cross and Barnabas Collins cannot?👎🇮🇳
Thank you so very much! I missed these episodes from 1840 when I was a young teen. Wonderful!

Agreed, it also had a long spanning duration through multiple arcs. The future 1995 mini-arc, the doomed 1970 showcase, then back in 1840.

The last time Barnabas used the I Ching wands, it took him months to get back to 1969.
It's cool asf. Barnabas can send his consciousness to any point in time he existed in

Julia, you could just make Roxanne forget about what happened through hypnosis. Remember how well it worked on Maggie? LOL

A little cross action, anybody? Strangely enough, it brought him to his senses!
WHAT HAPPENED TO 1118 AND 1119 EPISODE?
Although, not a red-haired lady, I have found MY "Roxanne Drew"! She is absolutely perfect for me!

Hi Mickey...theres a free streaming app called Tubi and it has dark shadows from the beginning
Where can we see all the episodes of the series? which platform? Please!
The entire series is free on tubi tv.

Audio sucks.in the beginning. This show really scared me when it came out. It's like like covering your eyes and peeking through them!
That Julia tastes BAD!
It must be her perfume, Eau de Garlique. . . .
That camera work tho. Out of focus, bad zoom, must have been a low budget.
The camera work on this show was pretty bad. The time shifting they engaged in at the time totally lost my interest.

When his mind enters his 1840 body, he changes history by no longer killing Julia. He becomes a vampire again because that's what he was then.
