You can tell her Mom cries everyday..So heartbreaking..I hope this get's solved someday soon!
I live in Maine and have lived here for my whole life and the same is true for my family (including great aunts, uncles and 3rd cousins). Maine is a small state with a small population and very little crime. When something happens like murder, everyone in Maine knows about it, but not in this case. I had never heard of this story until now. My fear is that the cops have not and will not be going out of their way to solve this case.

I am a property manager and there is NO reason they couldn’t have done a welfare check sooner.... especially if you suspect something was wrong with her. I can’t believe that. My heart goes out to the parents. They look so sad and heartbroken. I pray they can somehow find peace.

Sams mom came over after not reaching her for 2 days and she asked to be let in to get the cat
But Danny did let her in, he’s the maintenance guy. They went inside and looking for the cat, danny opened the front closet door and found her cat, and Sam. Sam was wrapped in A tarp. And looked to have been beaten to death
I was 25 when this happened and I was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine. I did not know Samantha but I have met Jesse. Drugs run rampant in the streets of Lewiston and too many people I know have died from overdoses. At 27 I was lucky enough to move down south. I can not believe her murder is still unsolved after all this time. It took a YEAR to even classify it as a homicide. This is unacceptable!!! She deserves justice!!!

I never got to the point of heroin but I had a pill addiction when I moved to Texas and detoxed as soon as I got there and have been clean of opiates ever since. Sometimes getting away from everyone you know (literally)and being in a new environment is what is needed. But yes in the end, you have to WANT the change.

The mother is dead and I’m asking about her beloved child and beloved cat. How does that result in “gtfoh” from you? Asking about the welfare of a child and a beloved pet doesn’t make me a bad person. A good person asks about the lives and welfare of those unable to defend themselves against great evil. In this case a toddler and a cat are those unable to defend themselves. Maybe you should start to ask about the welfare of those unable to defend themselves. With respect, please gtfoh yourself.

I was once kind and caring but others can really change you if you allow them to. I think there are way too many hateful, rude and cruel people in the world! The ones commenting above are just jerks. Wow it truly amazes me how they would not open the apartment door to see if their Daughter is ok, but oh a cat may be starving and bam they finally opened the door. So sad.
A starving cat is more important and gets more attention than a human life...that is amazing indeed.

The apartment manager didn't feel compassion for the distraught parents worried about their daughter but he felt for the cat.

I hate how these murders always seem to tear apart the mother and father and end with divorce.
God! The bags under the moms eyes tells a story. I never got to meet my aunt, because she died a year before I was born. My uncle said my grandmothers hair turned white overnight. My grandfather went to a place, that noone could bring him out of. My grandmother begged God, to not let her live to lose another child.

BS17 Thanks! Hugs!!! I hate to see anyone lose a child. Once day my mom told me about her little sisters passing. She was 20 years old. She and her husband were in the navy. They were stationed in Washington. She had an aneurysm early one morning. It killed her and her 8 month old fetus. When my mom told me what happened, it had been about 13 years. She cried so hard, when I told her I wanted to die before her. She told me to never say that. About 8 years later she passed away. I didn’t think I could go on without her, but I survived. As I’ve gotten older, I thank God she never had to bury her children. To see a parent lose a child is beyond heartbreaking.

I enjoy these shows but you always hear the parents talking about how much their missing or dead child has changed their life forever. I can't help but wonder what the siblings and children left behind feel like. The emotion of losing their brother or sister and trying to help their parents cope with the grief.

Im sorry but if your parents dont mind, i say stay at home as long as u can and save money and finish college. I always tell my girls they can live with me as long as they want. I lived at home til 23 when i finished college, but i did pay weekly rent and didnt mind that. I was greatful my mom let me live at home. I feel so bad for her mom, thats heartbreaking. So sad

So let me get this straight. The housing authority did not let the father do a welfare check on his daughter but a few days later let him in because he said there was cats that had not been fed?

Watching her parents is literally breaking my heart. These poor people, may GOD be with them. This is a pain absolutely NO ONE should ever have to go through. Their love for their beautiful daughter is literally oozing from them. I pray that GOD brings them as much peace as is humanly possible in a situation like this. I also pray they are able to find an amazing amount of joy in their grandchild every single day. I live an hour away from Lewiston and remember reading this story in the paper. As both a recovering addict and a mother and daughter this story breaks my heart. Hopefully there will be justice for the family.
I lived in Lewiston Maine for most of my life. And I know for a fact the Lewiston Police aren't that dependent. The police department has a bad rep for not doing their job. I hope they find this person.

What’s so sad is that if the cops know drugs are involved... they do not respond in the same manner, most of them assume that the person is on a binge somewhere. This is something I have seen firsthand many many many times.

I’m quite sick of all the unnecessary passes of judgments on cases involving victims who suffered from drug addiction. This doesn’t make them less than a person, and it most definitely doesn’t make it humane to kill someone.

Poor young lady. It always hurts me more when I here these victims are moms. I think of their kid/kids that now dont have their mommy anymore. I feel the worst for her parents. My aunt and uncle found my cousin after he committed suicide and they are damaged for life after that!! My prayers go out to her family and friends. And prayers that they find her killer.

He definitely has the perfect voice for any type of crime program or crime news program. He was really good on that program where they had older men coming to a house to meet under age girls on the internet. He would ask them to sit down and talk but most of the creeps were very nervous and would try to run out the door and get away but they were met by a couple of young officers who either tackled them or body slammed them to the ground really hard but they deserved it because of the way they tried to pick up underage girls for sex. Any older man who tries to pick up a very young girl who is underage should be either tied to the girls father's car and taken for a long ride or the police should have the option of killing them on the spot instead of arresting them.if they are caught in the act of molesting a young child !

I wish there was a way that I could like physically give her mother mental strength. like "here you go take some of mine" just to get her through those sleepless nights. I can't even begin to imagine what that must feel like. It's heartbreaking, and just so unfair. I hope they solve this case sooner than later, and possibly it may give her some type of closure that could help with her PTSD or help rebuild her fractured relationships...

She probably owed money for drugs and got caught up in something bad. This is so sad, her poor mother, she needs help to grieve
Dealers are just interested in making money. If she was buying drugs for personal use she wouldn't be able to create enough debt for it to be worth for the dealer to kill her. I'm surprised nobody suggested that maybe her ex hired someone to kill her.
