    To say 'one doesn't think so' means zero to me. Two thirds majority in a democracy changes everything, particularly when the vast majority don't have much to begin with, education is poor and people gullible enough to believe the fodder they are given. One was hoping for a better education system but after 24yrs it is worse, people are unemployed, trade unions ensure that South Africa has the most expensive labour in the world and constant striking by said unions and introduction of many many holidays ensure poor production. Added to that, lack of accountability and corruption by government makes a mockery of what ever decent law abiding hard working citizens are trying to achieve financially for their family's future. I have gotten to the point where I, as a South African Citizen do not believe anything government representatives say, even those who have excellent reputations. To say one doesn't think does not bring me succour.

      thabo thubelihle better how? Do you think that all whites liked apartheid? When apartheid ended we moved into a different era where racism is not a factor. It is due to people like you who keep it alive. Maybe you are one of those individuals who would prefer to keep on beating the same drum. The fact is that South Africa is worse off than it was primarily because of the government's inefficiency and corruption. Why not be proactive and ensure the positive progress of our country by voting for people who are going to make a difference. When I mean a difference I mean, a government that ensures that the education our children receive is first world education so we can have engineers, scientists, accountants etc. Without education the vast majority will remain poor. Have a government that encourages investment, not scare it away. Your minor statement only indicates to me that you answer to my dialog is the race card. Give a substantial reply. I am proud and it is okay to be a white South African, likewise each ethnic group is entitled to feel pride. Dealing the race card means absolutely nothing and is a cop out as it provides no solution.

      What government is worse are u talking about I grew up in Tugella fairy in msinga a rural area I have seen and lived through poverty. The government is no Saint but if I showed u the improvements of that place in the past 10 years u would be shocked so don't compare this uncomplete democracy with apartheid coz apartheid was far worse .. we have a lot of educated poor black men and women but the economy sits with the minority .there is no perfect way to take the land back when farmers/owners don't want to share or even acknowledge past injustice. U see white people now claiming they were in southern Africa before black people which makes me wonder why forgiveness was given to people who have no desire to live in a equal society but want to remain kings in a historically foreign land .. imagine blacks owning 70percent plus as less then 10 percent population in a European country white people would wipe us out like they have throughout history . We don't have to agree but u can't have political freedom without economic freedom and call it complete

    • @maryduplessis2510
      @maryduplessis2510 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      thabo thubelihle actually, the economy is geared towards employing blacks. BEE. Clearly you do not possess all the facts. It is the current 'incomplete' government who has destroyed this country. Also Forget about stuff that happened hundreds of years ago. Life sucks but winners move on. You can't change the past. Fastest way down is to continuously be looking back. I don't own land. I too am disadvantaged but willing to put my shoes on for tomorrow. And when the elections come I too will make my cross. I at least understand that to take land from one person to give to another without compensation is theft and I simply do not feel easy with anyone saying 'I think'. I want a clear answer as to what will happen and not what someone thinks might happen. It is as simple as that.

    Never once did these two address the morality of taking farms away from families whose ancestors carved it out of the wilderness centuries ago and turned it into productive land that created great prosperity for the entire South African nation. Instead this sounds like a conversation between two vultures with lovely British accents as to how the carcass of the nation should be divvied up.

    Thank you - Land question? What land question? Our black people have land - The government has purchased more than 4000 farms which they can't get transferred to their prospective owners because of internal disputes among the intended recipients - Furthermore, there are about 17-million hectares of land in the old "homelands" which the ANC had nationalized when they came into power - In other words, our black people have land - They just don't own it and so they are born in poverty and so they die in poverty - In fact there are more black people living on farmland in South Africa than the entire white and coloured population put together - If all this land was transferred to the black people where they are living in the homelands, they will be richer in land than the majority of white and coloured South Africans - And if they owned their respective plots in the homelands, they would be able to leverage wealth through property ownership and have the capital to send their children to the best universities in the country, but instead they have to sell their labour as domestic workers and petrol attendants - And please bear in mind that none of this land is bonded - And so to resolve the land question in South Africa, all the government has to do is to grant them title of their lands - But no it is much easier for the government to expropriate farmers' land - What is the point in taking a black person who is living as a subsistence farmer in Transkei and putting him on a white farm in the Karroo? How will this make his life any better? Would it not have been better to have given him or her title to the land and a free education for the kids? And as far as affirmative question is concerned - Affirmative action can only work if there are more whites than blacks.

    People are not seeing the elephant in the room. It is not about returning land to anyone. Anyone who has a legitimate claim to land does not have to steal it back, this has always been addressed and has never been an issue in SA and this is very easy to research.
    The proposed change to the constitution is not about land but ALL PROPERTY! moveable and immovable possessions. Those who will suffer the most are the poor living in squatter camps and are mostly black people, which is why the current political parties are targeting them, the vulnerable, they will never be able to own land and it also cannot be a race based policy because of the huge implications that would carry. Go listen to some of the intelligent debates regarding this issue. If this goes through the poor will suffer far more than they did under white apartheid and it explains why they trying to force this illegal process.
    Expropriation is nothing new, it's what happens when they make roads, parks, cemeteries etc
    By amending or even scrapping article 25 your rights to own property is removed and this also includes businesses, shops and any shares you may have. Why is the media so quiet about this new proposal but instead play the race card, blaming apartheid for the government's failures and lying about who owns the land because its the government who owns most of it. Let us also not forget that the rightful owners of the countries land is as it was before the 2nd Boer war. Race is not a requirement for nationalism and if it wasn't for the black nations multiplying 1000% in just 4 generations this would not even be an issue.

      @@mogomotsimasege4378 No you are not understanding the problem. The government refuses to give land to the poor black people in squatter camps, many have been living on government owned land for decades but the ANC refuses to give them title deeds to the land. The big question is, why doesn't the ANC want to distribute the huge amount of land and farms they own to the black citizens of the country?
      The second question is, why does the ANC want to nationalise all the land in the country if it is not in the interests of the poor black people? Look what happened in Zim. Don't let them fool you, the problems all lie within the ANC government.

    Why does the ANC have to add - 'without compensation' ? Is it because it will allow them to take more for themself or is it because they took so much already that there is nothing they can give anymore? 'Without compensation' is wrong, and in that lies the big issue. Change the narrative to; ' with compensation'. We are over two decades into democracy there are young adults out there that can build this nation up and be part of the solution - if only we can stop bringing up the past and keep repeating it.

    The reason why family land was always inherited by the eldest son 07:20,is because if it's inherited by a daughter,when she gets married,she becomes a member of her husbands family,hence why she takes his surname. That means if the land is hers or in her name,her father's family is now deprived/dispossed of that land. That is the land which her father's family is supposed make their living off. It goes to the eldest son (not male relative) in order to keep it in the family. It's about pragmatism,not sexism or patriarchy,thats all

However, as if giving land to (almost) every person would solve any issue and do any good to South Africa? It won't. Modern, highly productive industrialized agriculture is exactly the opposite of agricultural smallholders who do subsistence agriculture, which is what you will get in SA if you continue with the current narrative. If that happens to SA, your country will just become another Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, or Central African Republic etc. Instead, SA needs to develop its industrial base, notably manufacturing, as well as services. This requires skills developmen, an attractive business environment with guaranteed property rights - not expropriation. Since the late 90ies SA has undergone a continuous de-indutrialization. SA won't go anywhere if you give land to hundreds of thousands let alone millions of small subsistence farmers. That's not the economic model that will take SA anywhere. It would just mean regression and becoming another underdeveloped African country.
