Evolutionary biologist here: yes, evolution does not shape perfect organisms. You just need to be **good enough**.

This is why so many male insects lack... most senses and capabilities that you expect animals to have. All they need to do is fill their role good enough for babies to be made.

Good enough to pass on your genes.
So now it makes sense that your knees, back and teeth start giving out so early (lifestyle is also responsible, but still).

Brennan being aware of Brian Shaw, let alone discussing one of his videos, is not something I expected to happen ever. It feels like one tv show breaking the fourth wall and mentioning another tv show.

5:17 is where I realized Brennan visualizes a year the same as I do. Additionally, the mental clock goes through time so the "hand" traces a corkscrew through space.

i always appreciate little snippits and insight to brennans mindset and processing because i feel as if i share a very similar kind of set up, so to speak, and more than anything it makes it easier to gain perspective on some of the behavior i myself exhibit, through the lens of another person which consequently is ingested differently as opposed to an entirely internal process. not only is it refreshing to see a kind, genuine person that you feel you share qualities with, also through the consumption of content somewhat gain an understanding of my own self, or at the very least insight or perspective to assist or alter my self comprehension. i would hate to overly praise or idolize brennan to a dieific level, but im just feeling very connected and interested in satisfying more of my curiosity (thankfully i am not a cat, and if i was, the satisfaction provided to me via brennan would bring me back)

I relate to the "get the furnace hot enough" quote to much, but instead of my body, it's my brain, and its not PRODUCTIVE energy per say but good lord my mind consumes to much energy.

Even crazier than the low lactic acidosis thing is this extended family in Central Europe. Cracked article a long time ago clued me into researching it to see if it was a real thing and it seems to be with he lengths they went to in order to hide the family in question’s last names and places of birth. It was great uncles and second cousins and great great grandmas that were very tall for their time and just didn’t produce much myostatin, which is how our bodies STOP muscle growth so we don’t run out of fat and nutrients and start hurting our brain, heart, etc from our muscles soaking up everything and growing. They allowed one photo of a baby being monitored from the extended family born in the 2000s… it only showed slightly above the bellybutton to the diaper and down to the ankles. And seeing it you think, who let their 10 year old weight lift and do steroids and why are they still in a diaper? It was insane. Genetic mutations are all around us and it’s wild what is possible to just “pop up” in a given family line

i feel as if seeing behaviors and mindsets that i myself exhibit in a genuine way through another person helps me identify issues or flaws in my self love and perception in a not too dissimilar way that therapy is helpful for me. sometimes i just need a different perspective or reassurance before i can fully comprehend or accept something, and thank you brennan for being that positive force for me. maybe it's dramatic to put it this way but it makes me feel seen and validated quite honestly, that someone as successful and deserving of praise and respect shares qualities with me. it give me hope.

I feel fer the strong man Brennan was talking about. I've been chroniclly ill my whole life and I have numerous food allergies, and on top of that my body doesn't digest well, so eatin is and always has been my least favorite thing in the world. I'm a generally positive person but when someone asks me "what's yer favorite food?" Or "what would make you happy to go out to get" I'm like, no food brings me joy, I eat to survive, it is the worst and most necessary chore I have to force myself to do daily...id rather clean my bathroom and fold laundry tbh. Sometimes I nap instead of eat lunch 😅

There was a guy on Stan lees superhumans who ran constantly because of the lactic acid thing so it’s believable that Phelps could have that going on

Doesn't Michael Phelps have a stupid huge lung capacity as well? I think that explains the low lactic acid thing. Muscles produce lactic acid when they're not getting enough oxygen to burn calories, so they fall back to anaerobically burning glucose, which produces lactic acid. Phelps's larger lung capacity means he's getting more oxygen into his bloodstream under heavy exertion, so his muscles are able to burn more calories aerobically, and he produces less lactic acid as a result.

Um, actually... lactic acid can't exist in the body without your overall pH being too low to survive. It has a pKa of 3.87, which is to say, if you want a mixture of 50% lactic acid and 50% lactate, your body pH will need to be about 3.87. Since your body pH is *always* going to stay well above 6, the lactic acid in your body will always be in its base form, lactate. There's never lactic acid in your body.

I thought Jasper did a wonderful job interviewing him. It was a very natural conversation. He let Brennan talk, and Brennan let him talk. People naturally talk over each other when they are conversing. Did you want to watch Brennan monologue the whole time????

For 5 years I had an amateur power lifter as a roommate. I have never been in as good of shape as I was during that time, but I ate so many chicken breasts, and put down so many protein shakes that I found eating that much protein exhausting! It's a lot of work to be at competition shape to lift heavy objects. 🏋‍♂
