I actually really like the Red Wings offseason so far. Getting Kane back, zero dumb contracts. And a good trade or two will definitely help complete it. 97.1 is acting like the Wings made the ECF last year. Not to mention 80% of the teams who spent big in FA are going to regret those contracts in two years.

look at the term of the contracts still on the books. they are very deliberate. this signing is brilliant but 97.1 will still poo poo it because they didnt trade edvinson for markstrom or sign 34 year old tanev to a 6 year deal. look at the contracts and its clear as day what year is go time. we are entering our playoff window, 2 years from now will start the cup window. mike, if he even bothers addressing this, will still complain its not a big enough splash

The wings were HISTORICALLY BAD when yzerman took over and they've gotten better every year he's been here. he's trying to make the team a contender for a decade, not just make the playoffs every year for 5 years. The team last year competed for the playoffs. if this one makes the playoffs we are right on schedule. I think a lot of people, especially Mike and Rico, don't understand how bad the team was or where the team is going. they just love to complain about not signing 34 year old stamkos to a 10 million dollar deal.

Players want to be on a team long term without the worry of re negotiations every year while they play. Maybe they go down or maybe they go up in points and then you have to pay it out. Right now he is signing 30 plus year Olds and it won't do much.
Tarsenko skates better than Peron and without the dunb fuck penalities....not to mention pair him with Kane on the other side....its a solid move not splashy or anything to get the fan base to calm the f down but Its an upgrade from Peron amd the contract is not bat shit crazy....like a few others that Steve has done .

That was the best signing and term possible for any near point per game player available in F.a.He's a major upgrade over Perron, when healthy, and if he gets injured it gives them an excuse to bring up players like Kasper, plus he's a puck driver and strong on his skates, 2 things they are sorely missing, not to mention He's played in every system imaginable and proved he can adapt and contribute to a winning team. You can't improve this team for the long term with F.A. signings with bloated and bad contracts.
