I watched Rich and Stu every morning before school and then in the summer I watched them most of the morning before going to the golf course.

My most memorable Steiner moment was being at the airport and seeing him go by and I said “holy crap that was Charlie Steiner”! He stops walks back and said “Yes! Yes it is” and walked away in true Steiner fashion.

Charly is a former Yankees announcer too. Not an easy gig to get.

The sports center episode with Charlie and Carl Lewis singing the National Anthem was pure gold. One of the funniest episodes ever.

The trade with Melrose Place where Charlie becomes "Bobby the pool boy" is far-and-away my favorite "This is Sportscenter" commercial.

I’ve never laughed so hard at ESPN except when Bernstein messed up during a segment. The outtakes ESPN would show at Christmas time was epic!

I can definitely relate to the whole thing of watching the re-airs before heading to school. And I didn’t ever really watch the Charley/Bob/Robin block or The Big Show since I was out doing kid stuff after school.
So that’s why when I usually think about 90’s SportsCenter, I’m usually thinking of Rich, Stuart, Kenny Mayne and Linda.

I remember begging my mom to wake me up early so I could watch sportscenter before I went to school in 97-99. I loved those shows and that small piece of my childhood. Now I just want to sleep in as late as possible 😂

I like Charley. He had that trampoline effect of never getting tired and ready to burst out laughing or making jokes. I watched him at all hours during my college years. He didn’t look like Tom Brokaw or Dan Rather which seemed that all those guys looked like. Of course, Dan and Keith were the guys then Rich and Stuart. Toward Charley’s end, I felt he got tired of being viewed as Gene Shalit.

I was a PA when Charley was at ESPN.
Charley was a slooooooooooow as it got when it came time to reading his stuff. It drove the producers bonkers because the slower he read the less they could put in the show.
When I ran the prompter the producer of the show would ask me - and all PAs doing the prompter - to speed things up a tad to try and get Charley to go faster.
It NEVER worked. He read as slow as usual.
Nice guy. Great to work with.
But slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow as it gets reading stuff.

Nothing compared to those early 90s early morning SportsCenters. Before viral anything...it was all about PLAYS...OF THE WEEK (bullhorn)

ESPN in the 90s connected with people with their commercials. Nowadays that is not happening or will it.
