A transformative force in music, dance and the visual arts, the Ballets Russes was founded in Paris in 1909 by the visionary impresario Serge Diaghilev. Innovative and flamboyant, he had a genius for bringing together the most brilliant composers, dancers, choreographers, and designers, for nurturing creativity, and for galvanizing audiences. Emblematic of the influence of the Ballets Russes was the 1913 premiere of Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du Printemps: it caused a notorious scandal, but it also changed musical history. Putin is not russian civilians. Additionally, Russian culture has always been about freedom and revolution which civilians could only dream about in the dictatorship country for hundreds of years

@@tamunagejadze9750 Yes, of course. Actually, the Ballets Russes phenomenon is something I have always admired and been in love with. This is culture of the highest order. But what we can see now in Russia - power, corruption, lies and contempt for human lives - has nothing to do with culture. Putin evidently is opposed to anything that is symbolized by the word "culture", just as he is against any forms of freedom, also freedom of expression. Culture is not an isolated thing - it is a part of the social/human sphere and it reflects human dreams and aspirations. That is why I think we should protest against what is now happening in Ukraine, and in Russia too. And I think Russian people - wonderful people - should stand against Putin and other advocates of totalitarianism. I'm sorry if you feel touched by my comment - still, we have to speak loudly against lies and dictatorship.
