    Everybody rushes off to the islands, but mainland Greece has so much to offer.

      It’s so true. And there is the sea in the Peloponnese too!

      I think it's because there's always easier transportation to the islands. If you don't drive in Greece, ( but yes in Toronto!) It's not easy to get to these gems that Tiffany is finding. Tiffany I wonder if you went to the memorial site in Kalavrita. A great tragedy happened there in WW2

    70% of Greece is mountainous.Except Peloponnes, there are also wonderful mountains in Volos, Ioannina and Evritania regions.Of course I should add Mount Olympus , the house of 12 Gods in Greek mythology.It’s in the borders of Achilles’ land in Thessalia, and The Great Alexander’s Land of Macedonia.Thank you for this beautiful video.Cheers.

    I am glad that you are slowly discovering the beauties of Greece. I'm 65 and haven't had time to enjoy more than 30% of the beauty of this country, but I'm not giving up...
    Make it your goal this summer to go to Epirus (Sivota - Parga for sea, Zagorochoria for mountain, Acheron and Voidomatis for rivers, Vikos Gorge for canyons and ask how you will see the stone bridges...
    Stay healthy and travel Greece.

      This summer will be on an island most likely. I need the sea. But I am sure I will return to the mountains.

    About 25 years ago we take the train from Diakofto to Mega Spileo and stayed in the hotel at the trainstation, then it was already very old. We also go to Zachlouro and walked around. It was very nice over there.

    Just got back from first trip in Athens, Paros, and Antiparos. Went shopping at Flaneur in Plaka from your recommendation. I told the salesperson and they laughed and said that many people had been coming into the shop because of your video and joked that they should put you on the payroll. Lol Antiparos was an amazingly lovely island. Glad I research and found it. Apparently, according to Flaneur you are Dutch?

    • @agirlandherpassport
      @agirlandherpassport  ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Kalavryta has a very sad side. - (from wikipedia) On 13 December 1943, in retribution for the killing of the captured German soldiers, German troops perpetrated the Kalavryta massacre: they ordered all male residents of Kalavryta aged 14 years or older to gather in a field just outside the village. Some 1,300 women and girls were locked in a school which was then set on fire while the men were looking on from a hill outside the village. Then 696 boys and men were machine-gunned; only 13 survived. After that, they burnt down the town before they left and the next day they burnt down the monastery of Agia Lavra, the birthplace of the Greek War of Independence. Greece is a land of great beauty, kindness and just below the surface sadness and tragedy. I'm glad you are exploring more of mainland Greece. It has so much to offer and is often overlooked by tourists chasing white houses and techno music. Suggestions for upcoming trips - Take a look at Monemvasia at the south eastern tip of the Peloponnese. Also if you can get there Mystras (do this preferably in the winter when it's far less crowded and hot the atmospherics are magical)

    • @agirlandherpassport
      @agirlandherpassport  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They did tell us the story but I decided not to include it. The women and children were actually locked in the church I showed in the video. Very sad. I hope to explore too. Thanks!

      If you go to the Peloponnese, you should visit Levidi for food. The scenery with the pine trees littered all around + the insane food at the main town square. Vytina is also pretty amazing, bit more picturesque than Levidi.

    Great video again. I am originally from the southern Peloponnese; watching your last videos I have found a new or lost appreciation of the area. Quite a trek from Messina to Achaia. Hope you have a chance to discover the rest of the Peloponnese in the future. On a side note, when in Greece should I be shopping at Sklaveniti and not at AB? 😀😉😃

      Definetely visit in Pyrgos the house (museum now) of Giannoulis Halepas one of the best Greek sculptors. But before you reach Pyrgos village find the village of Ysternia and definetely pay a visit to the church of Saint Paraskevi. The brilliant thing with it, is that everything in it is constructed with white marble even the temple. I am calling it the Parthenon of Christian churches. From its alley also you have a spectacular view of the Aegean.
