- US Republican Senator John Kennedy accused Maya Berry, executive director of the Arab American Institute, of supporting Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran during a hearing on hate crimes in the US on Tuesday.
Despite Berry clearly stating she does not support Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, the senator persisted in his line of questioning. He accused Berry of being unable to clearly state that she did not back these groups and said, "You should hide your head in a bag."

I met Kennedy when he was Louisiana's state treasurer. I'm pretty sure he was a democrat at the time; he definitely was public in his criticism of (then) governor Bobby Jindal's fiscal handling of the state.
I was working at a TV station, part of my job was to meet and greet people who came in for interviews. If they were interesting, we'd have a good chat. We chatted. I told him I was a (former) Marine (and veteran of OIF) and half-Iranian.
He was real chatty; he told me about a buddy/associate of his who'd just gotten back from Iran on some kind of business. Shit like that. Even had his assistant give me his card.
Point is: the dude is a two-faced schmuck. He's well educated, knows beyond this shit, but doesn't care.

Louisiana is the most racist state or at least in the top three of the nation. It's horrible. I've lived all over the United States and have visited many places and have never seen such backwardness and hate as I see in Louisiana. My neighbors of beautiful color are never quite sure what to make of me at first, but eventually I get a nice nickname and am treated like the sister that we are to one another. Brothers and sisters, children of God together, His loved creation, so we should love one another. And their grandchildren oh my goodness, they are just adorable and all of them love Miss Coleen.
