Hey! I acttualy im basque. I was born in the basque country, my parents are basque, i’ve spoken basque since i was 3 and i live the basque culture. I think its so wonderful the work you put into your videos. I really admire you :)
I’m Mexican-American and I just did an ancestry test, and apart from the obvious Spanish & indigenous, I was surprised to see Portuguese & Basque! The basque culture is so interesting!
Same, I’m Chicano from Southern California and I’m 12% Basque. Aldecoa, in traditional Basque, spelt “Aldekoa”, is a Basque name. My 2nd great-father was Basque, born 1844, who integrated to Sonora, Mexico.❤🕺😎
I grew up in Mexico and I grew up always listening to my grandma tell stories about them moving from place to place. I never played attention until I started digging into my ancestry. Now here I am discovering I'm part Basque , French & most importantly Mexican. Growing up I was always asked if you're Mexican why are you white? It was the most annoying thing ever.
My dads aunt told me when I was a little boy. before we came to morelia mx that we were Basque.and it my not be a coincidence that we settled near chino ca. in 1912.then I did my dna and it all made sense most of my genetic make is Basque.

We are fortunate enough to have a home there that we travel back and forth from regularly. I absolutely love what you are doing. Keep it up. Happy to help in any way possible. Speak Basque since birth and am an absolute Basque history nerd.
Great video! I'm also learning Basque because my dad had told me that one of his great grandparents was from the Basque Country before immigrating to Mexico, and I took an Ancestry DNA test, and it came out that I am 7% Basque, so therefore, I have some ancestry that can be traced there. So I have begun learning the language to reintroduce it back into my family tree, and hopefully pass it down to any children I have in the future to make sure the Basque language doesn't die out in my family line.
Only 7% huh? But you’re Mexican right? So do you speak Nahuatl? Mixtec? Otomi? Zapotec maybe?? Learn about your culture first before you go around stretching 7% of nothing.
I'm African American and have Basque. It's called the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade!!!! I'm curious to know about these people, like will they accept black people in their race? The Spaniard have significant Black/African blood and so do the Portuguese.
I know that I’m 20% basque because of my grandmother she was born in Mexico but she is fluent in basque... I don’t speak it but I do understand what there saying....
In analyzing my DNA results, I discovered that I am 3% Basque. Obviously, it is not a considerable percentage, but it’s humbling to unearth this connection with a unique community.

I did get Basque on my Ancestry DNA test along with Spanish and on other's Portuguese and Iberian. My aunt had told me that my GG Grandmother's family had come from an area of France that bordered Spain. It appears to me that the actual ancestor either may have come directly to America possibly to colonial Virginia/Carolina's in the late 1500's/early 1600's or perhaps came to England first and then sailed to colonial America. Thanks for the video !
This is great!!!i grew up thinking I was Mexican and after doing ancestry I found out I’m just a small part Mexican, but I have much more Spaniard, Portuguese and Basque with a little bit of French
thomas anderson My family is small alot of history has been lost over an old family drama. And I thought i was mostly mexican since my family all lives in mexico. Maravillas is the last name and im 40-45 percent northern iberian peninsula the rest is mexico native american and 3-5 percent Scandinavian region. And of course 3-5 percent Northern African. God I want to find out more lol
I’m puerto rican, but my ancestry dna came up 5% Basque. This was very interesting to hear about how this ties in with latin america because I had no idea what Basque even was.
I’m 27% Indigenous Colombia, 20% Indigenous Mexico, 3% Basque, 30% Ireland, 14% Sardinian and 6% Swedish. I don’t have much connection to Basque culture but it’s amazing)
My grandfather was from Spain and came to the US to Boston and made his way to Texas. He died around 1943. I was told he was Basque and confirmed via DNA test. So I'm hella Basque. Thanks for starting this channel.
I just did an Ancestry DNA test and it came back with 2% Basque. Obviously that isn't very much but it's interesting to look it up online and learn about a culture I'd never heard of before!
sooo im very basque, my first and last name are both or basque orgin. i just found your channel and its been really enlightening for me because im not very close to my family heritage. thank you!
It’s so interesting to learn about our DNA! I took an ancestry test and got indigenous America’s central 32%, Spain 21%, indigenous americas Mexico 17%, Italy 12%, Cameroon, Congo & Southern Bantu people’s 3%, European Jewish 2%, Basque 2%, indigenous America’s Andes 2%, Senegal 2%, Northern Africa 1%, Turkey & the Caucasus 1%, Eastern Bantu people’s 1%, indigenous America’s Colombia & Venezuela 1%, Portugal 1%, Malta 1%, England Wales & Northwestern Europe 1%.
Funny thing is I had heard of the Basque culture as a kid and was really drawn to them but never really delved more into it. Fast forward to today and I found out I have a whopping 6% Basque ancestry and I couldnt be more excited. It's almost like my genetics were trying to pull me in that direction as a kid and I didnt listen lol
I am of second-generation Cuban parents who’s grandparents came directly from Spain. I have 4% Basque. Nice to have found further information. Great vid.
I am first generation American. My dad still lives in the US. I have a huge, family in the Basque Country and we have a huge family and I have lived there. Basque culture is amazing.

Thanks for the vid Anne-Marie! (That's my mom's name too!). My son just asked me about our Basque ancestry, and I was ashamed that I couldn't really tell him much except for what I read in an old family history book I have. The only thing I know is that our family is from the Kingdom of Navarre in the Basque country, but aside from that, I know nothing about our ancestry. Thanks for educating us!
I’m from the Caribbean and found myself to have Basque ancestry. I was so very confused as I had never heard of it before. But I’m also Spanish and Portuguese (among 16 other regions also). My entire name is French so I expected French ancestry, but my DNA result showed me NO French ancestry. So weird. Very cool learning about the Basque heritage and history.
Bro my Mexican peps say I'm not mexican bcuz I'm white AF lol my moms from michoacan and my dad's from Tijuana Mexico but my last names leads me that I'm probably Spain decent idk lol
Yo you do know Mexican is not a race or ethnicity dont you. I have this discussion with so many of the younger members of our family. They think they are Mexican, but that is not correct. Just cause you speak Spanish didn't mean your Mexican. Their are Asians who are born in Mexico more mexican then these Americans who think they are Mexican.
Yessssssssssssssssssssss!!!! My great grandfather was born in Bilbao, grandfather in Mazatlan, and both my father and me were born in Tucson, Arizona. I am looking into my heritage :) and have made a commitment to learn Euskara. Thank you soooo much for this channel!
Thank you for the video. I'm here after my father and I took a DNA test (FamilyTree DNA) and we both got Basque (as opposed to the French we assumed we would see since my father's surname is French). I have no idea where the Basque could have come from (my father's surname is typically found in Paris) because we've hit a roadblock with "paper trail genealogy" and are stuck after anything beyond my dad's great-grandfather after they immigrated to Canada. Regardless, even if we never find out which relative was Basque, I'm glad to have found your channel and be a part, in some way, of the diaspora.
Thank you so much for your channel. Turns out I’m 6% Basque (I’m Puerto Rican) and I was so intrigued in finding out what that means. Your videos do assist in learning just a little more.
My great grandfather's family immigrated to Argentina in the 1910s. They together with some other Basque families were the ones who actually founded the Basque Cultural Center of Argentina. My surname is Ituarte and my family is from Mutriku. Nice videos!
Wow I think we might be related… my last name is also Ituarte what a small world. I currently live in Phoenix but was born in Mexico. Nice to virtually meet you 👋
All I know is my grandfather was basque, moved to Venezuela when young and traveled.. he passed away when my dad was a little boy, and my father passed when I was a little girl... as a single mother my mother moved to the US, All I know about my BloodLine is from stories my mother tells me.. my last name is Irureta and was always told it was a wierd last name screw them I love it.. I’m also Rh- and found out its from my basque background.. along with other interesting facts.. I’m intrigued to learn a lot more about my background since I can’t ask my father’s family as I didn’t grow up with them or at least haven’t seen them in over 20 years.
I want to go so bad.. I dig deeper into it and the curiosity about my family history and background grows more and more. Your channel is awesome thanks for all the info 🥰 hope I can one day go and trace down my Irureta family just meeting them would fill me up with so much joy ☺️
Hello Family, I have found your channel after spending a few days tracing my heritage from my Dad's side right back through the Di Guevara's first arrival and tremendous establishment of modern Malta as we know it. And incredible proud of my Ancestoral connection to Don Diego di Guevara and Sancho Nunez "Ladron" de Guevara and learning about Alva and Navarre. I am your Australian cousin 🐨
I found your channel like a year ago and my results didn't say anything about Basque, only Spain. Today I got an update and it shows the main update was the addition of Basque
I am so happy to have come across these videos! I had no idea where I come from and assumed myself to be a mutt. I just got my DNA done 3 times and I am 73% Basque and 27% Celtic/Welsh which I am learning are also Basque? I'm not sure because I literally just found this all out and I am learning. It is fascinating to have answers and to see all the similarities I share with these people! From Jaw structures, characteristics to even ways of life and preferences. I'm blown away honestly. I'm also quite excited to learn about where I come from. Thank you for making these videos!
Glad you found the channel! That's a really big percentage of Basque, you have :) Good luck in learning more about the culture, hope Hella Basque can help
Yep my dad is type O negative Celt and now I caem to find out that his mom was Basque. I lean a lot more towards my mom's side of the family so according to FTDNA I am only 10% Basque but I am sure my brother who leans towards my dad's side is much higher. Plus since my dad has type O negative blood I am sure he is a whole lot more than 10% and I bet his mom was even more. Another thing is that my dad's side of the family struggles with alcoholism. I mean all male members of this family have this problem.
My Grandparents left the Basque Country during the civil war my dad was born in London and then the family moved to Australia so I’m 50% Basque and very proud of my ancestry. Love your channel and your T-shirts especially the “Hella Basque” one you are wearing can I buy one?
I recently discovered I am 1% Basque & I find the fact that I am a descendant from someone who was Basque very fascinating I’ve been reading up on my heritage & I saw their culture & what they like to do are things I just naturally love to do myself I don’t know who in my family tree was Basque just yet & I hope to discover that in time.
I just found out I have a small % of Basque in my DNA. I’m mainly Irish, Scottish, Welch, German, small % from Finland, and Norway. This is all so interesting to me to find out about my heritage. Thank you
We were always taught about our Basque heritage. Im 40 and live in Los Angales. My grand parents used to take is to. Elko nevada . I need to take my own kids .
Crazy. I just constructed a family tree with the help of DNA. I found out that I have Sardinian, Basque, Aquitaine, Galician-Asturian and Celtic (Irish, Scottish) and Belgian roots. It seems to make more sense now watching this video. Thank you!
Im Mexican American and on the 23andme test results I get Basque County as my top region under Spanish & Portuguese. The closest Basque surname I've been able to dig up is Ibarra. I have type O blood and im severely gluten intolerant.
I feel very blessed to have found this video and all the resources attache to it. This is my first contact with your work. My ties to the Basque have been established through my efforts in genealogy. My great grandparents had the name "Aguirre". I have a significant number of ancestors that originate from the Basque country. I am looking forward to examining all your work. Moments ago I subscribed to your newsletter! Again, thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind comment, and I'm very glad you found the channel! Aguirre is definitely a typical Basque last name. Hope my videos help give more context to your genealogical research.
I born in Cuba, but I always knew my family was Basque( vascos) my grandmother spoke the Euskera, but I never learned. I recently did my DNA and shows 92.1% basque!!! Very proud!! a Cuban-Basque- American here!!!
Have you examined the Basque connection to Acadian and Louisiana Cajun culture? Beginning in the early 1600's many Basques settled in Acadia and later on 3 small islands close by which are now known as Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. The official seal for St-Pierre et Miquelon contains the Basque flag. In 1655 the Great Deportation sent many Acadians south to Louisiana and their descendants are now known as Cajuns.
Hey, thanks for your comment. I haven't done too much research into it the Basque connection with the Acadians, but yes I am aware that Basques were mixed in with some of those first French settlers in North America. Always tough doing historical research in these topics when the Basques just get lumped in as "French" or "Spanish"
I already been to the Basque Country a Beautiful place and I realize why Spain don’t want to gives it up. I was told by the guide that the Welsh, Irish and the Scottish are members of the same Tribe.
The Basques share some similarities with the Welsh, Irish, and Scottish and some links throughout history, but they are not the same people. At least to my knowledge it hasn't been definitely proven.
This is what I have been learning about in my research about the Irish, Welsh and Scottish as well. My family members which include my sons, husband (Wigley, haplogroup I-BY17941), a sibling paternal & maternal Aunts, grandchild, her mother and myself have all taken DNA tests from various sites. Via Gedmatch we all have Basque DNA. In fact, I have two female cousins, one from my paternal line and another through my maternal grandmother's father's line have Rh Negative blood, as well as myself. My husband and I have been able to have Y-DNA / Big Y-700 DNA tests done on our paternal lines (Wigley (I-BY17941) & Matlock (R-L21)) plus my mom's paternal line (Owens (R-U152)) and her mother's paternal line (Ruggles (R-DF27)). They all show that our ancestors were in Spain before their descendants spread out. In fact my maternal grandmother's paternal descendant closes to the Basque DNA Marker of R-M153 is R-Z209 ( My Ruggles 2nd Cousin). Gedmatch shows that I carry 3.52% Basque DNA. My daughter-n-law and granddaughter carry more Basque because my daughter-in-law's paternal line (Munoz) comes from the areas of Jalisco, Guadalajara & Chihuahua, Mexico. My 2nd Cousin 1xR, Brad Ruggles is taking the Big Y-700 paternal DNA test for us through FamilyTreeDNA. His brother now deceased took the Y-111 and I upgraded it to the Big Y-700 but since he died before the upgrade, we couldn't get a fresh DNA Sample and the original was not able to be used. So, we are all looking forward to the new haplogroup that the Big Y-700 will give us. To Note: for all the Ruggles males out their. The US has a Northern Ruggles line and a Southern Ruggles line. The Northern Ruggles line are descended from Thomas Ruggles (SR.) b. 1558 /60 in Sudbury, Suffolk, England - d. 1647 / m. Margaret Dandridge (b. 1562 in England) - THESE ARE THE IMMIGRANTS: came about 1635. I am from the Southern Ruggles line and our immigrant ancestor is James Ruggles from London, England. Based on the Y-111, The Northern Ruggles and Southern Ruggles males who have tested are a Genetic Distance 4. meaning they are related but not at the GD of 0 which would make them closer in relation. They are very distant cousins that came via different paths to America. Both Ruggles' line descend from the R-DF27 ancestors and share the same ancestors as the Basque.
My Grandfather, Valentin Felix, was born in Bilboa around 1890 (my educated guess). As a child he would help heard sheep. He emigrated to the US when he was a young teenager. Apparently he took a ship (sailing ship?) from the Basque country and arrived in New Orleans. From there he headed west by carriage across the southern states and decided to settle in Tucson, AZ. He passed away just prior to my being born, so I was never able to meet him. My mom tells stories of when she was growing up and when my Grandfather would host Basque get togethers at the house every Friday night. My mom tells me that I am just like her dad. I have always been intrigued by the Basque heritage and am proud to be of Spanish Basque descent.
I hope this channel is not over but I just found this video. I’m American of Cuban parents, ancestry DNA states I’m 20% Basque. I always knew I was Part Basque because of my last name.
My grandmother was born and raised in Bilbao. Her ancestors are from around that region, the including Vitoria. I’m told the Aberasturi surname was a prominent family. I’d like to learn more.

I just found out through my results that I, also have Ancestry in the Basque country! It was a pleasant surprise to come upon this video when I went to search 'Basque'.. Never heard of this country, or ever heard the name. But your video was very enlightening, thanks so much! 😊
Recently discovered that my blood type is Rh negative "O-", since I don't know my genealogy or have my DNA results, I can only assume that my heritage lies within Basque country because it has the largest amount of Rh negative people in the world. Who else here Rh negative?
Most of Basques have positive RH, the difference is that in the Basque region the percentage of negative RH is more elevated than in other regions. having negative RH doesn´t imply being Basque, and having positive one, doesn´t imply not to be Basque.
I got 4% basque in my DNA test, I remember my grandma saying that her moms family moved to Venezuela from Bilbao, her surname was Amesti which is apparently a Basque surname.
I descend from probably the first Basque in the US. Eduardo Bom Passe. Arrived on the Good Ship Fortune in Nov 1621. DNA results correlate. If ever in Gardnerville NV,hit up the Basque place.
Thank you for this! Ancestry just unexpectedly told me I was 20% Basque! I had no idea, I was expecting all English, Irish and German. This is very helpful because now I want to learn more. Subscribing!

I’ve got 2 percent Basque with a recent Ancestry update and I am not surprised since my mom, dad, brother and I have Rh negative blood. We have a unique heritage that all mixed in the Caribbean.
Hello Anne Marie, I watched your video on Basque phrases and saw the Basque symbol for the first time which looks like a curly and more stylistic and friendly symbol known in German terms as the swastika which isn't necessarily German as it was used by many ancient groups of people throughout ancient history and when I saw the Basque version it made me wonder WHY this symbol is so prevalent in ancient, ancient history, forget about the German misuse. This anomaly would make a great historical study. Additionally your Father looks like a few of my uncles and you have strong Basque facial features. My last name is said to be Spanish but mystically derived from French. My Father spoke Euskara but that doesn't mean too much because he spoke 6 other languages although he had a lot of Basque friends in California. I never even thought about asking my Father about why he spoke Euskara or about our very mixed lineage. My Father and his Basque friends frequently sat at a long table on a grassy hill drinking lots of wine, eating various sausages, nuts, cheeses and sourdough bread which may Father made himself.
I'm waiting for my DNA results currently. I carry a last name linked to Basque aristocracy. Recently information has been posted online dating back 1300 regarding my family name. One of my probably ancestors was a historian to the Crown of Castile, Lord of a province in Basque Country.
You do realize it was the Spanish who allowed the Acadians to settle in Spanish Louisiana right? The English colonies didn't want you because you spoke French and were Catholic. Most Spanish officials were Basque.
@@violenceislife1987 I'm glad you know the Spanish had your back when the Anglos kicked your ancestors out and the Anglo Americans in the 13 colonies didn't want them either. Your fellow Catholics took ya'll in and gave you the land. Not the USA but Spain. Hope you never forget that. Best wishes and love. Stay safe in this pandemic.
Me too! I’m a Louisiana Creole/Cajun and I have records going back to both New Brunswick and France in the Basque region. I haven’t done a DNA test yet but I have birth/death and marriage certificates that verify my lineage. I’m a little nervous to do DNA testing though because I don’t fully trust it yet
We have Basque heritage and it's resulted in large, oval-shaped brown eyes in our family, and some of the grandchildren in our family are a lot darker in skin tone than others. The rest of our heritage is all Northern European.
I took a DNA test some time ago and I was astonished to learn that I'm at least 14% Basque and 13% Maltese. Having been born in Brazil, a melting pot, I was only aware of Portuguese and Native American ancestors, but I really never expected the Basque part, which seems very cool.
How amazing is your work!!! I was searching for my Basque origins and I found you ♡ My last name is Biscaya from my dad's family and I'm from Brazil. I never made this DNA test, my only proof of basque ancestry is the name, without counting on the Portuguese/Spanish blood.
I found out I'm part Basque but have mostly French blood with slivers of Native American, Norwegian, Swedish, and Finnish from my mother. My father is of Japanese decent with Spanish blood muddled in there.
My name is Kiara. My last name is Rios. My Ancestry DNA came back. I'm 43% Indigenous American (I'm Mexican), 25% Spain, 16% Basque, 5% Portugal, 4% Ireland... and other smaller percentages of other things. My blood type is O+ so that adds to it.
Just saw I have 16% basque DNA and I never eeveeeeeeer considered having any ancestry from there, but I am fascinated. Particularly with their celtic heritage, which I've always been really drawn to.

Thank you for doing this! I appreciate you. I found out my grandmas father was basque or had basque ancestry. He died after one of the big wars from a war injury. I think it was WWII All I knew was I had French ancestry from my grandmas side of the family. Probably also on my dads side I had French. I know I had more Irish from his side but I am sure he also had French. Also I’m from south Louisiana. It was mostly a French colony that settled down in my region I grew up in. I have been around French speakers all my life but turns out I only have 7% of French /France in my dna. I do have 2% basque. So it most have come from a distant relative since my great grandfather could have had basque in him and he passed it down from his side. Before I even found out I had Basque. I watched videos of basque people and the culture from one of my favorite guys on TH-cam., who studies cultures and languages as well as ancient civilizations. Before the update on ancestry I had Spain dna until it updated to basque. I have both Spain and French. But since the update now it’s just French and basque. I also have Venezuela & Columbia indigenous americas. Before that it was Peru & Bolivia. Until it pinpointed to a group of people in the mountains in Colombia & Venezuela. I have Ireland, wales and Scotland as well as England and north western Europe. This was from ancestry dna test I haven’t done anything else yet. My mother did 23& Me. She has Mesopotamian and African in her dna and other stuff I didn’t get so I plan to also try 23&me to find more in-depth results. If anyone knows about anything else I could possibly use that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏻

It appears to me that the actual ancestor either may have come directly to America possibly to colonial Virginia/Carolina's in the late 1500's/early 1600's or perhaps came to England first and then sailed to colonial America. Thanks for the video !

I’m not a expert on anything! Thank You!
@@rodneyscales2648 Me neither! I just read a lot and talk to a lot of people about these subjects :)
I think I have become assets by dna.
1647 / m. Margaret
Dandridge (b.

Thanks 🙏🏻
haven't done the dna thing yet plan to tho i've read a basque history of the world, and am a basque facebook member
Awesome, sounds like you're doing all the right things! :D
Rich Allen basques are stupid
@@candymigu So you're calling Pablo Picasso and Balenciaga stupid? Also, Chanel got her early design inspirations from basques. On the contrary (:
