  • Trying to get this old 1973 Corvette off the line with this new fiberglass leaf spring. Not only did we gain some performance, we knocked 30 pounds off this 550 HP 383 Corvette.

Just a small point. Always do your final torque with the weight of the vehicle on the ground.

      That is correct!

Adjusting the bolts only affects ride height. It does not affect spring rate.

Correct, I was worried about it rubbing on the slicks. By tightening the bolts, it raises the rear and effectly increases the stiffness before the tires rub. I can see the confusion but definitely not what I was trying to say lol.

I have bout a total rebuild 81. This has the composite monospring. The rear is sitting too high for my liking. So, if I understand your comment... lowering the nut on both sides will drop the height?

@@imathestorm Correct, you can also install longer bolts and lower it more if the bolts you have aren't long enough. They make 6,8,10 inch bolts.

The shop installed a new leaf spring and the rear end stays up and the shop wants to put old leaf spring back on and return the new leaf spring. Any suggestions?

Either longer hanger bolts or a low arch leaf spring. The first leaf spring I put on did the same thing. I ended up going with a van steel leaf spring.

a lot of vette places sell fiber springs.Corvette central is where I got mine .Vansteel sells a a little bit shorter spring ,to help clear wider tires ,and it can be had with a 400lb spring rate.you can use 10" long bolts from a C4 vette if you want to lower the rear more then the 8" lowering bolts

I ended up going with the vansteel spring. This spring had way too much arch and made the rear of the car sit too high. The Vansteel spring is low arch which is important if you are running a bit stiffer spring rate. I'm running 360 to help keep the car flat on heavy acceleration. (Helps save the u joints on the half shafts)

    What spring did you get?

This spring was a TRW spring 340 pound. Way too much arc. I ended up going with a Van Steel 1inch shortened spring with a "low arc". Its 360 pound spring which can be a bit "harsh" on dirt roads but feels good at the track. Part number is - VSC21K360014

The Van Steel page says the shortened spring " will cause some unavoidable wear on the spring from the spring adjustment bolt". Have you noticed this? They also have a 400 pound spring for more stiffness, what made you not choose that if you are seeming to want maximum stiffness? ... and were you able to dial in the 360 pounder to feel more sporty? Or still feels soft? I was thinking about that one to try to balance a sporty feel but not shatter my spine on bumps on the public roads. Are you still thinking the 360 is still worse than the stock spring?
