When you think about it, it is Michael Jackson that got at least some Christmas cheer into Oscar by not forcing anything and giving him something he wanted.
@@spoonbendingspacemonkey You're right; it's just another ill-informed jackass who's been bamboozled by the puritan crusade to crucify Michael Jackson for non-existent crimes.
Man, thank you for all the entertainment you gave us this year. I know that you are soaking in all these first magic moments of the holiday with your son and wife (as a guy with a soon to be 22 year old, 20 year old and 16 year old I can tell you that it does fly). Thanks for making time for us.
The "You did WHAT?! You little bastard!" was the funniest comment of the video. I don't know where MJ was underused worse: here or Sidney Lumet's "The Wiz". And Oscar didn't give out frozen lemonade, that was his frozen piss! I don't know how you remember this stuff, have access to old VHS's, or find old TV Guide listings, but thanks for showing them to us. Merry Christmas to you and your growing family!
MJ having a "blink and you'll miss it" moment seems pretty on point. Be it self-imposed or part of his contract, I don't remember any cameo appearances having singing from him in them.
Wow this is the first time hearing about this special, grew up watching specials from the 70s and 80s. Also I have to say I love old Snob videos but Snob has officially entered it's golden era.
Merry Christmas, Brad and your loved ones. You have given me so much joy and laughter over the years. ‘Heil Honey, I’m Home’ was just incredible. Your Pierre Kirby series was outstanding. Peace out!
Honestly, isn't that most of Oscar's apperances anyway? Just people kind of giving him shit for not being super happy and smiling to the point of it being toxic. Even as a kid I always wondered why they didn't just leave Oscar alone, and why they thought he was being unreasonable for being upset about being woken up from sleeping by some random-ass musical number about shapes or counting.
I would definitely watch The snob review every season of the show in a heartbeat. Cause him doing these specials are a blast. And I didn't even really grow up watching Sesame Street anyways.
It would be hard to review seasons but Sesame Workshop did produce so many specials and vhs tapes during the 80s that would be fun to see the Snob review.
Given how much Brad’s not a fan of Elmo, something tells me next year we might get Snob talking about the holiday episode where Elmo destroys the neighborhood by getting a magical wish for Christmas to be every day 😂
Okay, I just gotta ask; why can't these people just accept Oscar is Oscar? I know Pooh and friends tried to keep Eeyore happy, but at least they could read his damn body language after being friends with him so long.
What a weird coincidence, yesterday I was watching a couple of Wizard of Oz movies and then this special just so happens to feature Ethel Merman, who voiced Mombi in "Journey Back to Oz" and Michael Jackson, who played the Scarecrow in "The Wiz." All that was missing was Brian Henson reprising his role as Jack Pumpkinhead and Margaret Hamilton turning this special into lost media.
I think I saw this all these many years ago but I cannot say I remember it at all. Still, thanks for the memories Snob and have a Happy Holiday and a Merry Christmas!
This Sesame Street Special aired on CBS only. The same year on PBS, another Sesame Street Christmas Special, “Christmas Eve on Sesame Street” aired. That special actually had the entire cast, Kermit, Grover, Burt, Ernie etc. Not just Big Bird and Oscar. And it had more locations than just one street corner. In the Special, Big Bird tries to figure out the logistics of how Santa slides down the chimney, because Oscar casts doubt on how it happens. And Burt and Ernie each sell their prized possessions to get each other Christmas gifts, only for each of those gifts to be accessories to the possessions they both sold.
I've been watching The Cinema Snob since his DVD collection was stolen and he did reviews of whatever was left, and I've enjoyed the Christmas content every year.
Woah a Mr. Show reference I love Mr. Show w/ Bob and David!

With Leslie Uggams, I'm disappointed that Snob didn't make a Blind Al reference. And what an interesting way to close out 2023. Snob should consider reviewing whatever New Years film that he considering reviewing for a long time.
I'm glad I was too old for both of these specials by the time they aired. Did I mention that I once had a dream that involved Anne Murray covering "Birds of Paradise," by The Pretenders? I'm pretty sure I did, even if it wasn't on your channel, Snob. The best thing I've seen involving Oscar the Grouch was the SNL parody of the movie trailer for "Joker," and that was better than the time Billy Joel serenaded him while Marlee Matlin translated his song to sign language. And the best version of "Tomorrow" from Annie that I know about was drawn out by a counselor in the 2003 independent musical drama "Camp."
Wow if I had a nickel for every Christmas special Sesame Street released in 1978, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice right
OMG WE HAVE THAT SANTA DOLL!!!! My dad and uncle's always hated it but my Mommom kept it and I played with it (I'm a porcelain Doll girl so of course I did) I need to make sure that gets passed to me and never thrown away.. if it hasn't yet. Merry Christmas to you and yours and a very merry first Christmas to Jack ^-^
A belated Merry Christmas, and a not belated Happy New Year! I've seen another review of this a long time ago on another review show. I had no idea this special aired the same year as "The Star Wars Holiday Special", an yet I can already tell this special a ton better than the latter.
Oscar is actually canonically part of a Jewish family. As he has a cousin named Moshe Oofnik who’s a main character on the Israeli version of Sesame Street (Rechov Sumsum).
Leslie could've hired Deadpool in the future to off the Grouch! Also, thank god someone's taking care of Lt. Hurwitz while he still thinks he's Ethel Merman.
I remember the first time I heard about this was when Obscurus Lupa covered it back in 2012. I just remember Ethel Merman calling Imogene Cocoa an idiot and that was the best thing to come out of that special. And it’s a blatant Christmas Carol rip off.
It was nice of Big Bird to teach the kids on how to wear a face mask. Even in the 70s Big Bird could sense the covid pandemic. Im not so sure knitted cap will work though, but its the thought that counts. Merry Christmas and happy new year to the Jones household.
I don't know why, but Big Bird scares the crap out of me. Even when I was a kid, I cried and ran out of the room whenever Sesame Street came on the TV.
You think MJ would've had more involvement with the muppets his at peaks in the 80s and 90s...but nope. Also, Big Bird never got Hooper's name right until AFTER he died

... I'm not sure if that was a joke or not, either way, Yes
Oscar is way too old for MJ

@@JanetStarChildjust ignore it. Not worth getting into.

It’s always funny to see Brad talk about something kid friendly.😂
Back when Sesame Street looked like a real inner city street and Elmo hadn't been unleashed
I always thought when Smothers told Oscar everyone moved away he would say GOOD would have been really funny.
Nice work on your delivery of the line "The Russians have decided to Red Dawn Sesame Street", you had me in tears with that line.
Being a new dad Brad could look back at a lot of material Sesame Street produced for vhs tapes in the 80s. There were so many.

Only 3 non-human Sesame Street characters?
As long as none of them are Elmo, I'm still onboard.
Or Rocco😡
Oh so this is the special Ethel Merman sings Tomorrow from. I love that rendition she did.
The "You did WHAT?! You little bastard!" was the funniest comment of the video. I don't know where MJ was underused worse: here or Sidney Lumet's "The Wiz". I'd say here because at least he sang in The Wiz
The Osmonds knew that Luke and Leia were brother and sister, years before anyone else.
I think Kris Kristofferson actually was in the running for the role of Han, too.
5:30-5:48 Actually, Big Bird not getting Mr. Hooper's name right was a running gag throughout the entire series.
MJ having a "blink and you'll miss it" moment seems pretty on point. Be it self-imposed or part of his contract, I don't remember any cameo appearances having singing from him in them.
That costs more money
Want music you pay the band, want to dance you pay the man.
Wow this is the first time hearing about this special, grew up watching specials from the 70s and 80s. Also I have to say I love old Snob videos but Snob has officially entered it's golden era.
Same! We were the target audience! How did we miss this? ❤🎄
I have to say, the cat IS extremely cute. It could give someone a holiday joy all by himself.
Merry Christmas, Brad and your loved ones. You have given me so much joy and laughter over the years. ‘Heil Honey, I’m Home’ was just incredible. Your Pierre Kirby series was outstanding. Peace out!
You know they really missed an opportunity here; they could've used Oscar as an allegory on how others celebrate christmas and holidays differently.
Honestly, isn't that most of Oscar's apperances anyway? Just people kind of giving him shit for not being super happy and smiling to the point of it being toxic. Even as a kid I always wondered why they didn't just leave Oscar alone, and why they thought he was being unreasonable for being upset about being woken up from sleeping by some random-ass musical number about shapes or counting.
the two muppets to star in this special are also the two muppets who are effectively homeless. they had no choice, they had no place to hide
I would definitely watch The snob review every season of the show in a heartbeat. Cause him doing these specials are a blast. And I didn't even really grow up watching Sesame Street anyways.

That's actually a really good special.
This special was filmed at the same time as Christmas Eve on Sesame Street (1978), and originally aired just five days later.
Okay, I just gotta ask; why can't these people just accept Oscar is Oscar? I know Pooh and friends tried to keep Eeyore happy, but at least they could read his damn body language after being friends with him so long.
Even with Grumpy Bear in Care Bears they didn't try to change him
It’s the Deadpool crossover I never knew I needed
I’m surprised the dog character isn’t more popular, seems like something kids would love
I would agree, but he was off the show regularly by 2000, apparently the suit needed a lot of refurbishment work
Was he from Fraggle Rock, or am I thinking of a different giant Muppet dog?
You're thinking of Sprocket which was grey and more shaggy looking @@louisduarte8763
@@louisduarte8763 you're probably thinking of Sprocket from FR, who was just a normal hand puppet. Barkley predates the Fraggles by about 5 years.
I love the intro song so much
I do too! My search for the full-length version of the song turned up nothing :(
Pigeon Bernice taking a shit out the window had me crying laughing.

I really am like Oscar. To heck with all of humanity, but you gotta make sure the animals are okay!
Christmas eve on sesame street should be talked about I remember having the VHS as a kid
Bob died last year and Im still sad about it. Maria's the only one of this gang that is still around. She and Gordon need to be proteced at all costs
Great review! By the way, the lady that sings is the same performer who plays Blind Al in the Deadpool movies. 😎👍🏼
I wondered why there were two different Sesame Street Christmas specials, were on aware of the other?

Oscar is royalty xD
Keep up the Sesame Street vids, Brad. Maybe next time, you can review one I’ve seen.
It’s Blind Al from Deadpool!
I love Deadpool

Is my color off or is he wearing a yellow Grinch outfit!?!
They forgot Elmo with a gun.
More importantly, who will save our children?!
Shirley Jones was so cute. I’d play house with her!
I want to see a review for Christmas eve in Sesame Street
