Great memories of loco sounds for me. I remember a recording of freight locos (Black 5s) on the Settle and Carlisle line hauling trains up the inclines with the beatiful background sounds of Lapwing birds calling. Absolutely wonderful.
I came across my copy of Gresley Pacifics when tidying my record collection. I recall this being bought for me by my dad on a visit to a record shop in Derby. (Must have been early 60s). The record shop had a vast array of Argo records and I never thought that I would get a chance to see so many again! Thanks Bob.
just fantastic was looking at southern steam and come across this just bloody awesome got to love the gresley stuff a4 with distinctive whistles just wow and so local as well i live bout an hour n half away from retford heard so many storys about the age of steam pity i was born in the 90s
I have a collection of these Argo recordings since I purchased them in 1965 but no player so its great to hear them again. Also a Transacord recording "On the Footplate" featuring an A4 and Britannia Pacific.
Fortunately some of Gresley's Pacifics have been saved - six A4s and one A3. 'Sir Nigel Gresley' and 'Flying Scotsman' can still be heard racing along the East Coast Main Line on specials.
@@bobgellatly Some Argo Transacord records were reissued on CD, but I do not know which ones. They were obtainable from the Ian Allan shop in London, but it closed in October 2020. Your best bet is probably Heritage Railway sales stands, or the dwindling number of HMV shops. It might also be worth trying second-hand record shops which also deal in CD's. You might also pick up the odd one in a charity shop.
Marvelous recordings, the images just compose in my head when listening to these sounds.
Fantastic recordings, Thank you very much for posting these recordings. Really like the sounds of the A4s in the good old days of steam
The distant sound of the A4's chime whistle would send young trainspotters into a state of ecstasy!

Very well catalogued. Got the atmos of Ealing films.
Fantastic stuff. Keep them coming please.
Really like what you're doing. If you could do the album on Bulleid Pacifics, it'll be very appreciated! 👍
Hi Aiden. I don't have that one but I know someone who does. I will ask to borrow it!
Bulleid Pacifics [EAF 87] now on TH-cam.
Thanks Andrew, it just sounds rather strange….
The voices of ghosts long gone.
