I literally watch this all the time! I have a dvd case and disc of this! Honestly it’s just amazing! My mom brought me this because I loved trains so much! Even the music at the beginning and ending is awesome! I love this so much! 😊

ADDITIONAL FILM NOTES: 3:31 Derailment of an EMU (SR type 4EPB) at Waterloo, with steam crane & (red) Brakedown train in attendance.
2:20 to 6:40 SR scenes around Waterloo & Clapham Junction area. The Southern used a 6 position headcode system unlike the rest of Britain. This described the trains route, not the trains class, as on other regions. So Steam locos seen with two white discs one either side of the bufferbeam is NOT an express but the Waterloo to Clapham sidings Empty Coaching Stock (ECS) headcode. Two vertical white discs is the Waterloo - West of England (Exeter & Plymouth) code. One disc on the right of smokebox door and another on left bufferbeam is the Waterloo - Bournemouth West headcode. A single white disc on right side of smokebox is Waterloo - Basingstoke - Southampton Terminus station (closed 1965) code. To explain a few of those seen.
6:40 to 9:40 Train fan steam specials on the Western.
10:48 Yellow diagonal stripe on cab of LNWR steam loco means it was banned south of Crewe due to 25Kv overhead electrification in progress. Risk of 25Kv jumping to cab roof or firemen standing on tender shifting coal forward !!!
11:38 Commentary should say end of steam 1968 not 1958.
14:40 Birmingham New Street rebuilding in preparation for 25Kv overhead electrification.
    14:55 GWR 2-6-2T 4555 now preserved !
16:34 King class hauling the "Inter-City" named express from Paddington to Wolverhampton. With Mk1 stock in post 1957 WR only Chocolate & Cream.
22:12 King Class "King Henry VII" still exhibiting its unique "streamlined" wedge shaped cab dating from 1935, and here fitted with a BR Double Chimney.
25:04 Headcode V04 (1V04) the "V" indicates it is a train going too the Western Region (from any other Region). The even number "04" indicates it is the 2nd train after 02.00hrs on that specific route in that direction. Odd numbers being for the reverse direction. The V04 is preceded by a "1" in this case provided by the express lamp headcode of the two lamps on the buffer beam.
    31:27 Scottish Region
33:44 Banking Loco buffering up, at rear of train fan special, & having trouble getting the train restarted at Greenhill Junction.
    35:30 Views from the cab.
36:15 Class A4 3-cylinder streamlined locos near Dunblane.
43:50 Back to LMR Stafford (England). Catenary Masts already being erected for 25Kv overhead electrification.
45:30 Western Region - 81xx a 2-6-2T displaced from London Paddington suburban work to the Birmingham area.
45:40 ex GWR Hall minus name & numberplates and probably seen in 1965 the last year of Western Region based steam. DMU in the background !
46:05 BR Britannia in cost cutting unlined green livery. The end of steam was nigh !
47:00 ex GWR Hall 6934 with Hawksworth "County" class slab sided tender.
48:00 New DMU in original lined dark green livery, seen in the background (1965).
48:40 Unusual combination. ex LMS 8F 2-8-0 "assisting" ex GWR Grange 4-6-0 on an express.
49:00 Back to SR Waterloo area & Bulleid Pacifics.
49:39 The only steam loco to include the word "Steam" in its name. 35011 Merchant Navy class 8P 4-6-0 "General Steam Navigation" running light engine, tender first, from Nine Elms shed to Waterloo to collect an express.
50:07 The Waterloo bound Bournemouth Belle Pullman, (10 car winter formation) unusually passing Clapham Junction on the Windsor lines. Most likely diverted this way as a result of either Bournemouth electrification work, or even a landslide, two of which afflicted the mainline between Woking & Basingstoke in the mid 1960's.
53:42 Steam rescues Diesel. ex GWR Hall 4-6-0 tows Class 47 & train away.

Good descriptions. I was hoping to see some scrap cutting of steam locos, but unfortunately, there wasn't any!

In watching these shots, one can only mourn the loss and lack of interest in any loco produced prior to BR nationalisation…oh yes there is a small reference to some Castles and Bulleid’s de-streaks but it amounts to the same old boring stuff…
