Two greatest one-handed backhands on the tour ever 💪❤ !!!! I really miss this tennis seasons with such a good players in their prime ( Wawrinka , Almagro , Murray , Monfils , Verdasco , Roddick , Hewit , Del Potro....) 😢 Many of them not a GS champions but played a damn good and beautiful tennis !!!!
Los mejores reves de una mano de la actualidad , y con la misma potencia de ambos lados, lastima lo de almagro q nunca pudo ni siquiera llegar a una semifinal de gran slam
Huge backhands from both men - Almagro gets ridiculous pop off the ball even when it looks like he isn't really trying. Wrote up a brief article on this vid - tennisniche DOT wordpress
Amazing to watch an aggressive, exciting game of tennis, even if Almagro was generally 5% above Stan this match. Both have exquisite backhands! Great tennis. .
It actually was me who made those highlights and uploaded them to the same tennis forum were Mervland used to contribute, but you are welcome to share them ;)
1h backhands all day everyday. Wawrinka and Almagro make it look so easy. I'd be down to see Gasquet versus Wawrinka. I feel like Gasquet has a nicer backhand but Wawrinka is all-around better. Nonetheless, 1 hand backhands are a beaut.
@guitarherodude44 I totally agree, it is such a beautiful part of the game. Well there is this kid name Dimitrov who has a beautiful onehander, he is like 20, and Dominc thiem too, so I hope it wont die :(
Dude, all your comments are you hating on Stan. They have both have great kickers, but I was talking about their serves overall. Stan clearly has the better game.
Now Wawrinka is the champion of this tournament. What about Almagro? He had 3 chances of SFM to his first grand slam semifinal but still couldn't convert any of them.
I said Wawrinka underachieves; not that Almagro wasn't playing better. I told you Verdasco's serve is so much better than Almagro's it's ridiculous. Those stats are pretty meaningless as they're so close. You also have to take into account Almagro plays primarily on clay (his best surface) and because of his high ranking plays inferior players more than Wawrinka. If you want to refute the math I laid down that's your problem. All your comments hate on Wawrinka; your bias is quite obvious.
God I love the one-hander. A shame too, because it's dying. Everyone who uses it is 25 years old and up. 10 years from now the one-handed topspin might be dead. Long live Federer!
Almagro was better in this encounter. Stan should have be more aggresive like Almagro had been. Almagro's forehand made difference here and more aggresive play. They both have fantastic backhands but Gasquet has the best one handed backhand.
Obviously. That's why Stan won this match and holds a higher ranking right? Come on dude. Almagro: 654 aces this year. Stan: 405. I could keep going dude.. Almagro's stats are so much better it's ridiculous.
@littletennisking Dimitrov has a nice BH but whenever I see him I think his groundstrokes look lightweight, lacking the pace of say Almagro or Wawrinka. Not a great many youngsters coming through with a single handed backhand, Alex Clayton springs to mind
Stan almost defeated Novak..There is no shame in losing to the best player in the world but Nico was two sets up and served for the match three times and still end up losing..
If you want to see a video of Wawrinka playing even nominally close to his best tennis check out this video of him absolutely dominating Almagro on clay despite the classic Wawrinka let-down at the end. /watch?v=GwnvfiQ-bjw
@surfjabroni I love both these players in attack but Almagro has no net game. Stan is too vertical on his serve with little body thrown into it and his return on the BH is just a block. These factors limit both in their development to be top 10 players.
@littletennisking If you look at the top 100 I think about 25% have one handed backhands. I think some young players will still have it. In doubles there is a higher %.
I said he's an underachiever. Winning isn't just about strokes. Verdasco has a better serve than Almagro but hits fewer aces because he's not as confident and serves too conservatively. Stan is a more talented player than Almagro; he's just doesn't play to his potential. Also, Almagro played 83 matches last year; Wawrinka played 53.* 405 / 53 = 7.64 aces per match / 2 = 3.82 aces per set 654 / 75 = 8.72 aces per match / 2 = 4.36 aces per set *excluding Davis Cup
Keep in mind, I've presented you with the actual percentages from 2012. If you look back, there's something funny about your math. Nonetheless, with Nico playing more matches than Stan, it's harder to have the same percentages. If he had played the same number of matches, his stats would likely be better than Wawrinka's by a much greater margin. Now don't come back and tell me it's just because Stan doesn't play as good as he can. If he doesn't, that's his own problem. Almagro > Wawrinka.
+ambdance00 wow...almagro won one match against a 2012 version of stan amazing...the reason is very simple and it s not that almagro is a headcase because stan is also a headcase ...stan is a way better and more powerfull player, and this is coming from someone who likes almagro,he did waste his talent though but he s not on stan s level overall
Real tennis players hit one handed backhands PERIOD!! no ands ifs or buts..2hbh are gay they're for girls not guys. Onehanded BH players are better athletes..well they have to be in order to hit those 1hbh..DOH!
Dude how do you know how much talent someone has? Your argument is ridiculous, and even though you stooped to calling me stupid, I'm not about to drop to that level. Almagro made 57% of his first serves IN this year. Wawrinka only made 56% IN. OF THE 57% Almagro made IN, he WON THE POINT 77% of the time, while Wawrinka only won 73% of the pints he made a first serve on. HOW is his serve better? You are dead wrong, so stop calling people who know way more than you about tennis stupid.
if wawrinka was able to win a slam in think almagro if he back at his best..... what wawrinka have more than almagro when you watch these two playing together ?
You're obviously a huge Wawrinka fan and beyond any logical reason. Almagro's 1st and 2nd serve percentages are a few points higher than Wawrinka this year, which indicates that in 2012, Stan would have very little chance of beating him at all. Therefore Almagro is the better player. If you don't understand that then I honestly don't know what can be done to help you.
What a pleasure to watch these two. Beautiful styles!!
Almagro is an absolute joy to watch
Understatement of the century

2 great players, 2 great backhands
1 great player! Go Nico! Stan u a freakin joke
Two amazing ball strikers.
Two great single-handed backhands. It's like a lost art now.
4:00 you actually serious almagro
+Sam's Movies HOLY SHIT
Los mejores reves de una mano de la actualidad , y con la misma potencia de ambos lados, lastima lo de almagro q nunca pudo ni siquiera llegar a una semifinal de gran slam
I love one handed backhand battles!
Huge backhands from both men - Almagro gets ridiculous pop off the ball even when it looks like he isn't really trying.

so that video definitely goes into the favourites playlist
I love one handed backhand players
this level of tennis is unbelievable
Amazing to watch an aggressive, exciting game of tennis, even if Almagro was generally 5% above Stan this match. Both have exquisite backhands! Great tennis.
.
It actually was me who made those highlights and uploaded them to the same tennis forum were Mervland used to contribute, but you are welcome to share them ;)
so true actually, the way he hits his backhand seems so flowing, it has that sort of fluidity to it if you want what i mean :)
this video's 1 dislike is andy murray's backhand. not him, just his backhand.
Almagro played well.
yes you are right, it seems in that match, stan was moving into the court and hitting many volleys, more aggressive
Genial, increible, magico!! 👍🏻
1:00 amazing backhand of Wawrinka
yeah, you are right, he didnot seems to be really into this match at all, but man are those backhands incredible
even this view is much better for feeling the pace than the BBC's squished one. it's a good compromise between that and court level.
This Was tennis
Que dos jugadores top y los revés lo mejor 🤤
@guitarherodude44 I totally agree, it is such a beautiful part of the game. Well there is this kid name Dimitrov who has a beautiful onehander, he is like 20, and Dominc thiem too, so I hope it wont die :(
Thiem prevailed it seems !
Stan-the-Man Wawrinka has the silkiest one hander in the game. Hands down
Most efficient, silkiest is Gasquet.
Man I miss Nico!! Like I'm gonna miss Stan!! Just not as excited about the present day talent. Full apologies!
Wawrinka's such an underachiever. He should win this match all day. He does everything better than Almagro.
Everyone go to Tennis4you forum and check out Mervlad, his highlights are incredible.
Dude, all your comments are you hating on Stan. They have both have great kickers, but I was talking about their serves overall. Stan clearly has the better game.
@nalbandian313 The funny thing is that neither of these two really like to slice much at all so they just rip all the time on the BH.
That's why Federer has an all around game
Now Wawrinka is the champion of this tournament. What about Almagro? He had 3 chances of SFM to his first grand slam semifinal but still couldn't convert any of them.
he's older
hahaha, I was wondering the same thing, to be honest, I think stan got a better backhand than roger, no disrespect to RF
Awesome
one-handed backhand duel
nope, its actually widely known that wawrinka has, probably THE best one handed backhand, along with gasquet
It's amazing win that almagro beated wawrinka who is one of best player now
4:02 what a block, big reflects

@nalbandian313 well put man, well put, couldnt have said better
@littletennisking If you look at the top 100 I think about 25% have one handed backhands. I think some young players will still have it. In doubles there is a higher %.
WOW, thanks for the views, you guys ROCK!!
Yeah except serving, forehand, backhand.
That's because Stan DOES have a better backhand than Roger.
Omg @ 4:00 when that smash is blocked somehow haha.
where?
10:40 he didn't apologize.. --'
That's a joke... Wawrinka has the best 1 hander on tour. He's also got a much better serve. Forehand is the only remotely close one.
I said he's an underachiever. Winning isn't just about strokes. Verdasco has a better serve than Almagro but hits fewer aces because he's not as confident and serves too conservatively. Stan is a more talented player than Almagro; he's just doesn't play to his potential. Also, Almagro played 83 matches last year; Wawrinka played 53.*

Nico u the GOAT!! Stan u not the man. Bow before a superior player
Superior player with 0 GS title and 0 weeks as a world N°3?
Backhand fight!

Damn those inside-out backhands are killing me. I feel like Fed learned his from Stan.
The same as Federer
right on!!!
Wawrinka got a lot better!!! Just look at his monte carlo highlights against almagro :)
Almagro owned this match. It's crazy that Wawrinka has two slams and Almagro still has zero. Wonder why
+ambdance00 Almagro has no stamina. He's good for a few sets and then he's out.
+ambdance00 wow...almagro won one match against a 2012 version of stan amazing...the reason is very simple and it s not that almagro is a headcase because stan is also a headcase ...stan is a way better and more powerfull player, and this is coming from someone who likes almagro,he did waste his talent though but he s not on stan s level overall
both have great serves, great backhands, great forehands, poor movement.
Now, Almagro played 185 sets; Wawrinka played 147.
3.82 x 147 = 561.54
4.36 x 654 = 806.6
Wawrinka actually hit 405 aces; Almagro actually hit 654 aces
561.54 - 405 = 156.54
806.6 - 654 = 152.6
Wawrinka actually hits more aces based on sets played.
@cmorrison74 almagro is sill in the Australian open bro. Stan lost to djokovic. idc how well he hung in there
lol, well said
@BrotherTree1 Me too!!!
Real tennis players hit one handed backhands PERIOD!! no ands ifs or buts..2hbh are gay they're for girls not guys. Onehanded BH players are better athletes..well they have to be in order to hit those 1hbh..DOH!

Almagro was better

kevin maboa A brain. And a second serve. And volley.
+kevin maboa way more power...and a better serve second serve backhand and voleys

It is real playing not angame😊😁👌🇪🇸🎾
Too bad Stan sucks at everything else
LOL
wrooooong lol almagro's kicker is so much better than wawrinkas. stan is a joke
Almagro is the shit :D
