    I got this exact walking stick for my husband after his knee surgery. He is 6'3" and a solid 285 lbs. He loves it. It is thick enough for him to not worry about stability and it is tall enough that he doesn't have to stoop to use it. He has had it now for over 4 years. The worst thing about it is it looks so cool people try to steal it all the time. Even TSA agents try to tell him it's not allowed on flights after they comment how cool it looks. We had to get a letter from his doctor stating he needs it to walk. He has also used it to deter mugging whilst in New Orleans.

      just so you know, they aren't allowed to do that legally. If they try it again, get the ADA involved. Your husband has the right to use a walking stick if he is mobility impaired. Legally, they can not take it from him, make him get rid of it, or even ask for proof of disability.

    • @AW-vd4pc
      @AW-vd4pc 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We travel a lot and the letter is just quicker. I know full well they only want him to leave it so they can have it. Anytime we put up a fuss about it they always relent, but it is time consuming and when you are late to a flight you just want to GTFO.

      @@ismann9148 No, actually. Cold Steel, using logic and common sense, says that their canes are "virtually indestructable", but Cold Steel also says (it's written in the label that comes with those items, btw) that "... everything can break if the abuse is too much".
      I'm 100% all for those 'abuse' (let's be honest) tests videos, so I don't want to blame Cinema Warrior but, often people forget that those canes aren't walking canes, but mere badass blunt weapons disguised as "walking canes".
      Cold Steel loves to create such things. The 'dragon head' would had never ended flying apart if, instead of that piece of wood, would had hit a human skull, because that wood he used is by a long shot more heavy and hard than a person's head.
      Now ain't saying that someone should smash this thing into another person's head, don't get me wrong, but nonetheless that's the original concept behind those Cold Steel "walking canes": self - supposedly not lethal like a gun can be - defence.
      Every 'tool', anyway, has is own purpose. I wouldn't use a Danish war axe for chopping. Why? Simple: because said edge/blade was made, originally, for cut flesh during those Viking raids/wars, and not for cut wood like a Canadian timberman.
      A $10 Walmart camping hatchet/axe is perfect for such job. That's my point :-)

  • @SirJeremyBridges
    @SirJeremyBridges 9 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Ok....of course it's going to break hitting a 2x4. Coldsteel makes self defense weapons to use against another person....not wood.

  • @Goklow
    @Goklow 11 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    To be honest I'm not surprised that it broke. It's a decorative walking stick and not a sledgehammer. On top of that you missed your third hit, and hit with the handle instead of the head. And I doubt that they will replace it since its not a warranty issue. Same thing goes if you deliberately pour water over a new laptop to see if its waterproof or not, you cant expect people to give you a new one when you abused it yourself. But i can feel your disappointment, its a shame that it broke. But I'm pretty sure that the warranty only covers cases under normal conditions, or faulty Material or workmanship.

  • @adamjaberwolff
    @adamjaberwolff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    how tall are you dude? this stick is on the short side at 39 inchs, and it looks big next to you. also, you need a solid base not a chair, cause with that setup you built an engeneering tough geometry, the way bases of bridges were made, you could've used a sledgehammer, and you probably wouldn't break the 2x4

    you're supposted to be striking with the face of the dragon, thats how it is designed. you're striking with the weaker point of the head. the head is designed to be struck with. if you would have struck with the proper side, that would be gone. ive done this same test.

  • @johannsinclair8742
    @johannsinclair8742 11 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    First of all, it is not clear which type of wood you used for the test. I can confirm that this stick breaks thinner palett blanks. So I'm rather sure the Dragon Walking Stick will work as good as the other Cold Steel PP-canes in a defence situation and this is perfectly good. Furthermore even a small air pocket in the material can dramatically weaken those PP-sticks - similar to knots in wooden fighting sticks. So maybe your stick just accidentially passed quality control.

  • @mountainwindcat

    That's a pressure treated 2x4 you are tryingto break against the grain. No amount of blunt force is going to break it. Not quite sure what you expected here.

    I don’t think Cold Steel designed this to defend against 2x4s.; that would be the wrong target. Your target should be the bad guy wielding the 2x4. I guarantee you that if you hit such a person in the head with the dragon, using the same force you used on the 2x4, the dragon stick will not break, but the bad guy will.

    I broke mine braking a concrete block. It broke the block, which means it would shatter a human skull. The surprise I got was that there is a metal insert inside the shaft. Do not buy one thinking you could get through any type of metal detection. I'm not downing the product, it would mess somebody up, just don't think it is completely composed of plastic. It is not.

    Using it as a self defense weapon...when would you stand over your opponent and strike him that hard? Most likely...never. My guess it would weather general and self defense use just fine. As a side note...Using a cane, any cane, that has not been properly fitted...either too high or too low... to the user, can damage the wrist and shoulder. I'd be very careful.

  • @radioactivelarry

    Even though Cinema Warrior beat the crap out of it the broken part looks like there was an attempt to insert some sort of brace or support. The general shape of the dragon is too many curves in the wrong places.
    I have a TEN SHIN and have beat the hell out of stuff with it and it has never broken. The general shape of the TEN SHIN is more stout.
    Like someone else stated a 2X4 is a lot harder & thicker than someones skull and for a matter of fact will cracl most bones in your body.
    Thanks for the review, I won't buy a dragon any time soon although it is a nice conversation piece.
    You should take a good look at the break and see if they tried to stiffen a weak place, that will be a clue.
