Wore one throughout the first Gulf War (Op. Granny). We bought them from Silvermans just before we deployed. Excellent kit, nice to see how happy you were with it mate. Your shorts are waaaay too long for the SADF lol.
👍👍👍 .. good kit. I finished my time in the Paras Citizen Reserve in '82 and this new kit was being phased in. Much more comfortable than the old webbing .. although some of my mates on the Gold Mine I worked on, who were still serving in the same Battalion that I was in, used to 'chirp' that with the new kit, one could now carry a much heavier loadout 😏. The old-style webbing .. one did just not have enough room on the web belt for gear .. magazines and most important, water bottles! We used to have to 'jury-rig' (aka 'gyppo-webbing') our load-carrying kit to accommodate everything. Thanks for sharing .. brings back memories. Nice shorts .. lots of room for ventilation .. important 😁. Take care ..
"One of the smallest soldiers to have ever served .." lol - My guess is you'll be turning into some sort of day vest (pack) for hiking, carrying all the stuff one would need instead of using a small pack.
You should try to get a swiss army "Combat Jacket 70" (Kampfanzugjacke 70); it's in alpenflage and you have tons of BIG pouches (it was replaced with the "Gesamttrageinheit 90" (belt and the shoulder-thingy), which didn't have half of the storage-area... am still trying to find a tailor that can modify the jacket i gotten myself (one mod i want to be done: to be able to detach the sleeves with a zipper, for summer-use) Edit: my guess: you gonna use the vest for doggywalks; taking everything they need in the vest..?
@@RedBranchBushcraftHonestly, I've been thinking about getting one possibly for airsoft and just for collecting military stuff. I'm a college student so 150€ for a used surplus item may hurt my wallet a bit :)
Hi Wolly i used that extensivly in my time in the South African army
Excellent stuff, seems a great piece of gear , any tips
Nice to see someone from the old country enjoying the battle jacket.
Cheers buddy

Cool
Not the first vest to see service. British and American both used vests in limited numbers.
From that early?
@@RedBranchBushcraft from dday for the brits and us heard the italians had a vest for smg mags even before ww2
@tylerfreal6472 excellent stuff
I now think you have lost it! Next you will turning Red Branch into Fort Apache and getting ready to repel intruders…. What must Siobhan think?
@@edpikestone6800 sssh, she doesn't know yet
It is a webbing kit. But lacks a butt pouch Hunter 369

@TeurastajaNexus yeah that's expensive for a student
Sorry, but I’m not a leg man. 😂😂
Lol
Why are mens shorts so baggy in the leg. Hate baggy leg shorts and trousers
It's just my legs are so skinny
Baggy .. aka good ventilation (especially in Summer) is good for the Jewels 😏.
