      Not me. "We" have them in every major city in Australia. I have driven them for 14 years. Love them - so does the travelling public

    • @Leo-hv9mm
      @Leo-hv9mm วันที่ผ่านมา

      In Australia, they aren't called "bendy" buses. They're known as artics. Most depots have a few artics, and in some cities (Perth, where I live) across the country, there are pure artic depots. They are all Volvo's - not citaros. Larger than a citaros and the back section is longer than your citaros back section. Artics are the best buses to drive .. I love driving them. Brisbane has recently introduced bi-articulated buses - built in Switzerland - having three sections. They use them on their busway networks - not on regular roads with regular traffic. Perth will be getting similar bi-articulated buses, but has named them (stupidly) "trackless trams" as they resemble a tram but with rubber tyred vehicles akin to the Paris, Montreal and Mexico City metro trains. In my opinion, London was crazy to listen to Boris's fairytale on getting rid of articulated buses, they're the best type of on-road transit - better than a tram or trolley bus. If anyone reading this ever gets to Perth Australia look for the 950 route - a high frequency, limited service 100% artic run route. In Brisbane, go to any underground bus station on their busway network and ride the "Brisbane Metro" operated by bi-articulated Swiss buses. Or, check out aforementioned bus routes on TH-cam in Perth and Brisbane.

    We have bendy buses in Sydney too - and yes, they are ridiculous. They hog road space while carrying fewer people than some double decker buses. There is a trial on now of returning double decker buses to the streets of Sydney and if successful, we'll be going the same way as London and replacing the bendy bus.

    • @Skibidibab
      @Skibidibab 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here in Singapore double deckers replacing bendys😔

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Bendy buses carry significantly more people than double deckers and the extra space they take up per person is miniscule, a dbl decker carries about 80 or 90, whereas a bendy bus carries about 130 to 160 (they have fewer seats, but much more standing space because on a double decker, the stairs take up a lot of space and you can't stand on the top level) besides, no bus hogs nearly as much space as a car does per person

    • @bobhodgestransportDVDs
      @bobhodgestransportDVDs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, Ken Livingstone was mayor of London when these buses were introduced, One of Boris Johnson's election pledges when he stood for mayor of London in 2008 was to get rid of the bendybuses.

    • @grassytramtracks
      @grassytramtracks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Some routes are well suited to bendy buses (where there aren't too many curves on tight residential streets), but sometimes used on routes that didn't work very well. That doesn't mean they have to be removed from all routes, just because they didn't work on some

  • @mikehunte2087
    @mikehunte2087 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Drove lots of buses but these are stupid unless you have lots of space, mad decision in London but then idiots make the decisions, double decker carries the same but half the length, how many in I know apart from airports ☹️

    • @bobhodgestransportDVDs
      @bobhodgestransportDVDs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The bendybus just wasn't successful in London although they used extensively in other cities all over the world.

    • @Cuttlefish2202
      @Cuttlefish2202 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You may wish to hold off on calling something stupid unless you know what you're talking about. An articulated Mercedes-Benz Citaro G holds 40 sitting and 117 standing (157 people in total)[1]. A Wright Eclipse Gemini, the sort of double decker you see in London nowadays, holds 66 sitting and 27 standing. (93 people in total)[2].
      So an articulated holds about 1.5 times as many passengers as a double-decker. It loads faster (because people are closer to the doors), and costs less to run (lower labour and maintenance costs), and uses road space nearly as efficiently.

      A bendy bus certainly doesn't carry the same, a bendy bus carries far more and the turning circle is about the same as a regular bus. A bendy bus carries about 150, a double decker about 90
