Really great video - shows how popular the trams are - but a couple of corrections - from the city centre you can travel all the way to Ingliston P&R for the basic flat fare of £1.80 - not just to Saughton as you have stated. Also, the fares are the same for bus & tram - ie £1.80 flat fare - except to the Airport which is more expensive.
Even with the extension, the entire route excluding the airport would be £2 (note the price increase) meaning if you went from Newhaven to park and ride, you would pay 17p per mile, or £2 an hour which is cheaper than the average railway prices. But you can reduce that to 0 if your under 19 and have a concessionary card. Manchester and Nottingham uses zones to my memory while Edinburgh does not, although journeys from the airport charge special fees. For comparison, a single trip from Man airport to the city centre costs £4,60 (zone 4-1) while the same journey in Edinburgh costs £7,50. London buses and trams also share the same single fees
My wife and I are having a mini break in Edinburgh in March so we areplanning what to do / see at the moment. I never knew there was a tram system, so that'll be something exciting. We are travelling to Edinburgh by train and staying at the Premier Inn (Haymarket) so that'll be perfect. We've just had a break to London (our first trip away alone for many years which is why we've booked again, this time heading north (we are in Whitley Bay) I see thee's a bus fare cap in Edinburgh, does this includde the trams too (like in London) or are they totally separate. Regards !
Good to hear from Brian. Edinburgh trams are run by Lothian Buses, as are the efficient Edinburgh network buses BUT trams and buses have different pricing, particularly concession fares for non Edinburgh residents, including folk like myself who live in Biggar, South Lanarkshire. I definitely recommend you have a go on the trams but depending where you want to visit use the excellent buses. Note that the trams do not have USB charging points, neither the buses apart from the Lothian 100 Airport bus. Go to Lothian Buses online and you’ll find all the info you will need for your visit. - Pete
