Amazing. Dan's palpable delight, Mick's legit playing... Matt's astonishing virtuosity and reverence, combined with being a genuine sweetheart. Truly lovely guy. Matt generously gave me time and conversation before a show at the Sweetwater in Mill Valley, CA (and a nice blue Matt/Curt Mangan plectrum!) after noticing my TPS tee shirt. Then performed a jaw-dropping show. Everyone, please find a way to see Matt live. It isn't just guitar; it's the vocals, the composition and the heart. Truly amazing.
Thank you sir. For all the shit I get about loving this kind of music... it is the music I love and feel. And to play it with Matt it a massive privilege. Happy days!
Pure joy to watch Dan and Mick musicianship display. Dan playing in the pockett and then Mick channeling Stevie Ray's tone of power into his lead playing. Amazing jam guys. The D&M Drive sounded amazing in the band context. Your playing Mick brought out the magic rock we all love. Matt Schofield and his band sound good but our Pedal Hosts won our admiration again like every Friday. Massive thank you and applause.
Actually, because of That Pedal Show, I discovered that I prefer the sound of my guitar plugged straight into my amp cranked up. I bought a KOT, Cali 76, a lot of the nice pedals featured on the show and compared them to the sound of my amp cranked one day because I was inspired by their small amps videos. I only own two pedals now and rarely use either of them live.
@Wild Eye Before or after which of my Metal Zones? The one on the board, the one in the effects loop or the one stuck on the input of my amp with duct tape?
Man I gotta say, having some other instruments in the room really brings another level to all this! Great to hear it all fit together in an applied context as well as the guitars by themselves. Thanks again for what y'all do and for the magic knowledge wand y'all have waved over my board over the episodes.
While watching this incredible episode of ' The Pedal Show ' , I couldn't help but think about how far ' THE Show ' has come in roughly 4 years ! Could anyone involved with it, have even begun to imagine all that took place in this episode ? How far it has come !? It is a testimony to all the hard work and dedication everyone has. True passion, and a constant desire to be your best, and seek to do better..... always pays off in the end. Great show guys !! Keep doing... what you do !!
Thank you! That means a great deal to us. Dan and I are both the same. Always better, always. We don’t always manage it, but it’s at least the intention. Here’s to whatever comes next! Without forgetting to enjoy what’s happening right now. :0)
LOVE THIS ONE! Great to see you featuring an artist that has been trimming his rig back to the essentials during the many episodes that you've had him on the show. And the jam with the TPS band! Exceptional and adds a lot to the conversation by giving context to the conversations about tone and rigs. Nice job!
I saw Matt 3 years ago at a very small club in Auburn Hills named Callahans- and he was incredible in front of the 50- 100 people that were there ! I spoke with him afterwards and he is incredibly nice and humble- and allowed me to take pictures of his pedalboard he was using. It included 2 Deep Blue delays and just a couple of others- I will need to find the pic again. In any event, it inspired me to buy a Deep Blue delay and I use to this day. By the way, he told me that with all the music he plays- there is nothing better than jamming to slow blues- and he certainly proves it , Amazing talent!
Matt is next level awesome. His touch, tone, and technique are simply wonderful. Absolutely love watching him tearing it up. His episodes on TPS are always a treat! PS-Dan & Mick you guys continue to put out the best content in the universe.....The Universe! Thank you.
Paddie and Dougie laid a spectacular foundation, Matt and Dan built and decorated the house and made it so funky you could smell it, then Mick came in and he and Matt brought the whole thing DOWN! The best video and jam on the planet. Guys, never change.
Thanks Matt and you guys for reminding why we play music, it’s so easy to get bogged down with technical stuff you can occasionally lose sight of the actual goal, very inspiring
Truly one of the most amazing and inspiring TPS shows! So much packed into so little time. Bring Matt back as often as you can. And I want his t-shirt.
I have been a fan of Matt's music since the early days, his approach has been a major influence in my musical growth, his organ trio albums are still among my favourite blues albums. Thank you TPS for giving us a deeper insight of Matt's artistry. Keep on keeping on, all of you, dudes! :)
A true master in an intimate setting. How awesome is that? Matt is a pure example of someone who's belt has gone black through years of work and use, and that has become so frayed by those years it is turning white again. Simplifying, going back to the beginning, , finding the truth in every note and pause. True knowledge is a circle, and a true master always dons a white belt. Best. That. Pedal. Show. Ever.
TPS inspired me to go without pedals, too! Watching TPS educated me on the tones that I like, inspiring me to get a Cali 76, KOT, ARDX20 for slap, and a tremolo pedal. Thanks to some inspiration from Derek Trucks, Jim Campilongo, and JD Simo and the TPS episodes on small amps, I decided to try shooting out my pedals at gig volume to plugging straight in with the amp cranked all the way, utilizing my guitar volume and the amp's onboard verb/trem. The amp won and I've been playing an Esquire straight into a cranked Carr Rambler ever since. The tone, volume, and dynamics are glorious.
Easily one of my favorite TPS episodes. Highlights from top to bottom, but my favorite bits were Matt's insightful comments about how he is looking to progress as a player and a musician and then the epic jam at the end. And I LOVE hearing the full band set up: more of that please. Great stuff guys!
Man, back in year 2000/2001 , I was always waiting for young Matt Schofield taking his turn at the end of the epic jams at the World's end pub in Finsbury Park, London. He was magic back then. What an honour for me to having been able to participate at those jams!
Matt's knowledge, passion and humility really comes across in this interview. I could listen to him for days. The jams were great too, I couldn't help plug in and play along. Cheers. :)
“It’s your responsibility if you’re going to play loud, to make it sound good” observed by previous few guitarists relative to the total population of everyone who plays guitar. I stress the word, “RESPONSIBILITY”. Thank you, Matt!
Love Matt Schofield…what an amazing opportunity to play with one of your favorite musicians. These jam videos are awesome…they should be titled learning to play with dynamics. I have not seen any guitar gymnastics or any fancy scales or anything that I don’t use myself…BUT what I have seen that I fail to do well like both of you and Matt…subtle nuance dynamics…very eye opening for me….THANK YOU!!! Oh and very nice playing!!!
Thank you Jeff. Yeah, probably best not to play anything too clever - or try too - when Matt is around. It never ends well as he'll quickly give one a lesson in how it's actually done. Hahahaha. But yep, dynamics is what it's ALL about for me anyway. I already know too many damn notes. What I want to do now is play far fewer, but actually have them connect with humans. Cheers! Mick here.
Oh man!!! This was sooooooo gooood!!! That final jam was superb. Matt was awesome and both Mick and Dan were absolutely amazing! Loved it! Thanks guys!
Thank you Pedal Show forever....!!!!!: just played for like 2 hours n a half ( despite my hand probs I luckily still can!), with a different strat( well one of my 5 setYamaha Pacificas, which was in tune!), and changed one cheapo pedal IRIN Taichi to JOYO Taichi( theyre both Zendrive-type...), and YES: the JOYO has more Volume, and is not too trebly or thin or anything like that, but just a GREAT Pedal!! It just brought my tone alive with some other pedals, and made me wanna play more...., SO Mick and Dan: them pedals and your guiding( and some hard labour on my side...) have really had a huge influence on my tone/playing/life!! Thankful for the rest of my ( musical ) life, Kimmo Lingonheimo ((Im finnish like Mad Prof Simbleman, try pronouncing my name, Lassi Ukkonen is easy, well simble, ha ha)
I'm with Matt, I went from a lot of pedal to only a couple. I really like the sound of my amps but something that people I don't think spend enough time on is the right speakers. People change and buy pedals like crazy and really finding the right speaker or speakers for your amp is life changing.
Mick your playing and sound in this last jam was so spot on, enjoyed every second of it! no need for you to hide even next to a legend like Matt! one word: delicious!
That was pure unadulterated fun. I have played guitar for forty years and I never stayed bored for too long. There is always something out there to inspire. Thank you for this episode.
i gravitated more towards Dan’s playing when i first started watching TPS, cuz i didn’t really “get” blues much. but the more i’ve been exposed to it, the more i’ve realized just how great a player Mick is.
It is said a lot here that this was the best show ever, and most of the times people are absolutely right. Ed O'Brian, Chris Buck, Joey Landreth, (and so many others) those are all people that are extraordinary players, but also behave in wonder of what they do and music in general. Having that out of the way, this was my favorite show, the "no-pedal show". It was much about the gear as it was about the man (men - you guys, the band, mad professor), and living a creative, artistic life, while balancing the process of earning a living. It is very grounded, and for that reason it's humbling. Two things Matt said were very interesting to me: first, "I still kinda just wanna sound like B.B"; and then "I'm just trying to please myself" (while talking about the pedal and the amp). The question 'what do I want to hear?' it points to, for me, is the one we all come across one way or another: "what do I want to be". Like, do I sound ok, is this good, am I doing good, and so on. And doing it in a hopeful manner that others will reckognize it and share it with you, and support you. Striping down to almost the bare essentials is very brave and inspiring to see and hear. Last, but by no means least, a shout out to Doug and Paddy for holding down the fort like a couple of legends. Spot on playing on their side, and elevated this episode to where it stands now, among the best of this show. Cheers!
Thank you Andre. Salient points with which we agree! We’ll just double up on the thanks to Doug and Pad. Stellar musicians, dear friends. We are truly lucky humans. :0)
God almighty! I am back on board! After a few weeks that weren’t my cup of tea (but I am sure were great for many) you come up with this. Staggering playing but properly intelligent discussion too - thanks guys. The best of TPS
I put this on and had to run and get my kids, from two different schools. We came back and your still playing... and it’s magnificent! Downloaded! Well done lads!!!!!! (First TH-cam comment)
LOVED this episode. Matt had so many great insightful comments. Totally dug everything he said on volume/dynamics - especially band dynamics throughout the gig. Thank you for bringing him on! I wouldn't even know who Matt is without this show. His tone is killer!
what a show. All I was gonna say was how humble a player Matt is until the very last. But that ending jam. Dan was awesome and Mick was on fire. Almost cried a tear of joy watching you. Thanks for the show.
This was a really great show. Matt is truly a master of his instrument and provided a ton of insight. Also, please have Paddy and Dougie on more often. Having a full band to place the guitar tones in context is extremely helpful. Plus both Paddy and Dougie are great musicians and make for an awesome rhythm section. I could listen to those guys lay down a perfect pocket all day!
Matt is King. I just adore his playing, a true inspiration. So incredibly tasteful and definitely top of the list of guitarists Id love to meet. Mick can do a very tasty and impressive impression of Matts playing too! ❤️👍🏻
Yeah baby! Matt Schofield is back!!! Love the episode so far. As a Fin all I can say is Harri is a legend and Matt is a legend for getting Lassis name right.
Thanks very much guys for an instructive, educational, thought provoking and truly enjoyable and entertaining episode of the greatest guitar oriented show on TH-cam, you were all fantastic, and special thanks to Matt, a true British Blues Legend.Bravo!😎
SVL - Simon, uses .22 PIO tone caps. At least he did a year or so back (whenever you did the first Matt Schofield TPS). I was so taken with his tone I messaged Simon and he sent me a doodle of the wiring. Awesome guys, great episode!!
What a joyous episode. Matt has become one of my favourite players over the years-the dynamics, feel and sheer entertaining playing. .I was lucky to have been at the Andertons event and got to meet Matt and Mick. .
Love the new format for the show. Would love to see more jamming with guests, but don’t want to lose the informative nature of the channel. I’ve earned so much from you guys.
I had the great pleasure to open for B.B. King in 2011, two nights in Massachusetts... Matt's right on the money about him "never doing anything stupid." Super tasteful playing, and also one of the kindest, most generous performers. He stayed for hours after the show and shook every single hand!
I think its safe to say that most guitarists' first fumbling licks are the blues - because it "seems" easy (its not...)...we then move on. I know I did. Having watched this - ie - a really masterful player, I have been inspired to go back to my beginnings (41 years ago...) I realise once again that I have SO much to learn, this time around I'll have the patience required. Thanks TPS and especially Mr Matt Schofield.
Awesome episode. Thank you very much gentlemen. Bravo Dan & aMick 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 And a wish: A full episode on Mad Professor Pedals with Harri and Marko. Please!
This was one of the best TPS episodes ever, what playing by all concerned, that jam at the end was mind blowing especially loved Mick and Matt playing at the end, just wow 🎸😀
That ending jam was epic...you need to do that every time you bring a guest on the show now!
FR, THO 😳
agreed very cool
Shaky Ground by the Temptations is the riff
Holy shirt! Mick was on fire with the end jam!
Matt: I've never stacked them
Dan: giddy maneuver
dB Meter: 111
HAHA such good times, and damn good tones too!
When you see Matt Scofield in the video, you click like even before the ad finishes playing!
same
same
i have never seen an ad playing. when do they play?
Absolutely! You just KNOW it gonna be great!
Amazing playing, that rhythm section is holding it DOWN. Well done to whoever done the production on this episode!
Fraser did the audio. He is a talented human!
Oh man, bass sounds amazing!!!
Love Dan Screaming "YEAHHHHH!!" over the band at the end! Just makes me smile. Great show guys thanks!
holy fuzzin' fuzz, that jam in the end was spectacular, it made me tear up with joy, it needs a stand alone video !!!!111!!!!1!!
Rewatching in July 2021... TPS shows are timeless
Running on 3hours of sleep, not because of gigging or anything fun at all, rather from awake with a newborn, my brain needs this video! Thanks guys!
Joel E Congratulations on your newborn. 👍
Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congrats Joel
Congrats. I am also in the same boat. Watching with a baby asleep on me. Gotta indoctrinate the next generation early.
Mick, you totally smashed it in the final jam!
Thank you sir. For all the shit I get about
loving this kind of music... it is the music I love and feel. And to play it with Matt it a massive privilege. Happy days!

Your playing Mick brought out the magic rock we all love. Matt Schofield and his band sound good but our Pedal Hosts won our admiration again like every Friday. Massive thank you and applause.
Thank you Rolo - very kind words! It was a total trip to do this with Matt, Paddy and Doug!
The first time EVER that TPS has led to someone using less pedals!
After experimenting with different sounds, in the end it's always about dialing in the tone that works for you.
Thomas Staunton it's really 'the tone show'😀 'the because tone' show.
Actually, because of That Pedal Show, I discovered that I prefer the sound of my guitar plugged straight into my amp cranked up. what a phenomenal player, you can see just how good his timing is when he's jamming live like that, never rushed, never early always right on it
Yes to that. Everything about Matt’s playing is wonderfully on the money, including that amazing timing!
@@ThatPedalShow - You guys did yourselves proud there too. That jam at the end brought a huge smile to my face!
"that no pedal show" was one of the most brilliant episodes, ever! Thanks guys. So insightful.
While watching this incredible episode of ' The Pedal Show ' , I couldn't help but think about how far ' THE Show ' has come in roughly 4 years !

That rare and magical beast... a guitarist who understands dynamics! Great show, everyone.
Matt always has killer tone and his timing is impeccable
LOVE THIS ONE! Great to see you featuring an artist that has been trimming his rig back to the essentials during the many episodes that you've had him on the show.
And the jam with the TPS band! Exceptional and adds a lot to the conversation by giving context to the conversations about tone and rigs. Nice job!
Mick, you absolutely SLAYED! that was the most SAVAGE playing you've ever done on this channel.

Righteous jam session. Loved the interaction between Matt and Mick: Watching that is the reason I play. Sweet stuff all around.
Paddie and Dougie laid a spectacular foundation, Matt and Dan built and decorated the house and made it so funky you could smell it, then Mick came in and he and Matt brought the whole thing DOWN! The best video and jam on the planet. Guys, never change.

How can 11 people NOT like this? One of the best That Pedal Show EVER! That is all..........
It doesn’t matter. Mick here. It matters so little it’s beautiful. :0)
Best. That. Pedal. Show. Ever.
I love this. And I agree 100 per cent. Mick here.
Dan brought the funk and Mick brought the fire! Nice work, boys! Great to see you jam with Matt and band.
Matt comes across as so grateful, while he is at the top of his game....such a humble man. May God bless him always!
That jam at the end just demonstrated why Matt doesn’t use too many pedals. Excellent stuff.
Easily one of my favorite TPS episodes. Highlights from top to bottom, but my favorite bits were Matt's insightful comments about how he is looking to progress as a player and a musician and then the epic jam at the end. And I LOVE hearing the full band set up: more of that please. Great stuff guys!

“It’s your responsibility if you’re going to play loud, to make it sound good” observed by previous few guitarists relative to the total population of everyone who plays guitar.
I stress the word, “RESPONSIBILITY”.
Thank you, Matt!
In the jam at the end of the episode I see that Dan has been practising his Lettieri-style bopping! Great episode, I love the full band jams.
Cheers! Mick here.
That episode was awesome in every way possible! Dare I say the greatest episode of TPS to date? I think so.
I love the jam at the end. I know logistically, it’s hard to do that all the time, but it’s really awesome.
Oh man!!! This was sooooooo gooood!!! That final jam was superb. Matt was awesome and both Mick and Dan were absolutely amazing! Loved it! Thanks guys!
HOLY F**K!!! Damn!!! That jam was amazing...please guys there HAS to be a Matt and Mick tour. I’d pay well for that pleasure!
It just brought my tone alive with some other pedals, and made me wanna play more....,
SO Mick and Dan: them pedals and your guiding( and some hard labour on my side...) have really had a huge influence on my tone/playing/life!!
Tone to the bone, love the simplicity of his new, smaller board.
BOY! That call and response at the jam at the end, props to all of yall.
Woh! One of the best pedal shows ever....great fun to watch! And listen..
Wow. Only 20 minutes into this on my work day out here in California. The band jam is awesome. Could listen all day!
Fantastic show guys. Great as ever to see the wonderful Matt Scofield and hats off to you both on your accompanying the band. Keep up the good work.
Is it me or is Mick completely holding his own when jamming with Matt? Impressive!
Was just thinking the same thing.
Yes. And his playing has gotten lots more interesting than the standard SRV endless pentatonic stuff-- thanks probably to Matt Schofield.
i gravitated more towards Dan’s playing when i first started watching TPS, cuz i didn’t really “get” blues much. but the more i’ve been exposed to it, the more i’ve realized just how great a player Mick is.
mick did pretty good, but his tone paled in comparison to matt's.
@@rohadtanyad8908 I don't agree. Mick's tone was full and creamy. But it's a matter of taste.

That is insane! What tones!! Please make more videos like this!! Music is what tones are all about!!
I have only seen half of the episode and it’s already my favourite one
God almighty! I am back on board! After a few weeks that weren’t my cup of tea (but I am sure were great for many) you come up with this. Staggering playing but properly intelligent discussion too - thanks guys. The best of TPS
Yeaaaah!!! Matt's spectacular playing!! Loved it, please do more jams TPS!!
It is such a great thing when you see an artist who is endearing as his music. Can't thank TPS for the Matt S intro
I put this on and had to run and get my kids, from two different schools. We came back and your still playing... and it’s magnificent! Downloaded! Well done lads!!!!!! (First TH-cam comment)
Man, the level of musical maturity and humility from Matt is so refreshing and wonderful. What a great episode, and great music!
Proof that less can be more. As someone who has to save up to buy strings, I'm delighted. BTW, thought that the drummer was wonderful.
Dougie says thanks!
LOVED this episode. Matt had so many great insightful comments. Totally dug everything he said on volume/dynamics - especially band dynamics throughout the gig. Thank you for bringing him on! I wouldn't even know who Matt is without this show. His tone is killer!

The production standard in TPS videos just goes up and up. Superb stuff.
This was a really great show. Matt is truly a master of his instrument and provided a ton of insight. Also, please have Paddy and Dougie on more often. My favorite TPS show of all time!
That was magic! Way to go Mick! And Matt, Sir, you never cease to amaze! Please please please do a run of UK shows...
Loved the cheeky nod to Day Tripper in the jam - what a great episode!
Brilliant show fellas just brilliant, live music ahhhhhhhhhh just love it 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
One of my top videos from this channel. Cheers. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎😎😎
Yeah baby! Matt Schofield is back!!! Love the episode so far. As a Fin all I can say is Harri is a legend and Matt is a legend for getting Lassis name right.
Love the dynamics he always brings forth!
Thanks very much guys for an instructive, educational, thought provoking and truly enjoyable and entertaining episode of the greatest guitar oriented show on TH-cam, you were all fantastic, and special thanks to Matt, a true British Blues Legend.Bravo!😎
Great show, again. Matt SCHOFIELD wonderfoud.
That jam at the end: wow, I's speechless.
SVL - Simon, uses .22 PIO tone caps. At least he did a year or so back (whenever you did the first Matt Schofield TPS). I was so taken with his tone I messaged Simon and he sent me a doodle of the wiring.
Awesome guys, great episode!!
Thank you. Glad my ears still work!
@@ThatPedalShow probably also worth noting he uses 50's wiring as well.
Oh yeah so excited. Matt's sound is so dialed in on this video.
That end jam was without doubt TPS finest moment EVER! Pure musical joy ❤️
I loved this episode. Matt is amazing! You guys are amazing. The jam was amazing! Please do another gig with Matt and Joey.
Harri Koski!! Torille!! To the marketplace!
TPS should do a whole show with Harri Koski and Lassi Ukkonen.. the whole Mad Professor crew. Great people who know what they're doing :)
Torilla tavataan!
LuckyLicks I hope and believe there will be Mad Professor dedicated show in the near future.
To the marketplace! :D Ny rillataan!
Lassi TPS:n vieraaksi ja oitis!
Love having performances sprinkled through. Great stuff
Super inspiring playing from Matt starting with the first note. I love the guitar.
Well, Gents - That was an ‘effing awesome episode. Great stuff, and wicked good jam at the end!
I had the great pleasure to open for B.B. King in 2011, two nights in Massachusetts... Matt's right on the money about him "never doing anything stupid." Super tasteful playing, and also one of the kindest, most generous performers. He stayed for hours after the show and shook every single hand!
OMG the jam at the end - AMAZING! Just the energy I needed to get out the door this Friday morning! Kick ass playing, guys!!! Really!
Only needed to see the title to give this an epic thumbs up!
Thanks TPS and especially Mr Matt Schofield.
...So sorry, very poor form on my part to not give huge praise to both Mick and Dan and the rest of the band for their frankly superb playing !!
That call and response was awesome
Awesome episode. Thank you very much gentlemen. Bravo Dan & aMick 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 And a wish: A full episode on Mad Professor Pedals with Harri and Marko. Please!
This was one of the best TPS episodes ever, what playing by all concerned, that jam at the end was mind blowing especially loved Mick and Matt playing at the end, just wow 🎸😀
What a great mix of music and talk - very enjoyable!
Wow... just wow! That racing car analogy was brilliant!
Total class act. Stellar episode.
I was having a right old Victor Meldrew day today until TPS came to my rescue!!Thanks men that was some freakin' fine playing from y'all.
Back when COVID wasn't in the picture! Love you guys!
