- In this episode of Forge Diaries, I show how to create a Wolf's Tooth pattern in a sax ala Owen Bush and we start making a Viking-age padlock based on a find on display at the Jorvik Viking Center.

You are my mentor and role model of how to threat iron and smith properly and clean. Always amazed by your work. Gretting from Poland.
Love your videos, even though i have no knowledge about blacksmithing they appeal to me. Extremely well made and the music in the background makes it a pleasure to watch.
Pretty cool Niels, you have such wonderful toys.
Ah, good times again. Hey, keep up the awesome stuff!
Love this channel. I wish you guys would upload more.
I look forward to seeing how that sax turns out.
About time! Well worth the wait my friend.Like many of the others, I'll watch it a few times just to catch it all. Niels, it's a real shame that a brilliant craftsman like you has to work for a living, and can't dedicate all your time to create all of these wonderful projects to entertain us! But I suppose someone has to keep the www working.
If you will, imagine what a smith of that time had to endure to create similar projects. I'm always interested in how you translate old world tech into current methods, and still remain artistically and historically in place.
Looking forward to the rest, and much more!
Albert
Very cool stuff as always Niels.
Very impressive work as always. Nice job.
man I would love to make a wolfs tooth pattern blade. I saw a historic example at a hammer in recently. Keep up the amazing work in both forging and videography!
Big fan, love your videos. Always very easy to watch and follow what you are doing. Plus you do awesome work :)
Well worth the wait Neils.
You have the most amazing hobby! :)
Happy to see another video :)
I love when i see you post vids!!
Been too long man! I've missed these!
Thanks! I have about an hour of video that I still need to edit and post.
Niels Provos An hour?! You sir are a confirmed tease.
Amazing, as alway's !
keep up the good work man.
I really enjoyed the video, although I'd love it if you'd upload more often. :)
Thank you! It takes a really long time to do the work as well as the video editing :-)
I was hitting the like button before i even watched the video. :)
Me too :D
Love it, can't wait until next episode!
Where are you located ?
The shop is near San Jose, CA.
as you were making all the cuts and insetting the wi, I had a thought. Use a gear with the right size teeth as a bottom tool. Hammer the knife material into in and you should have perfectly matching teeth that would interlock like a zipper.
+Dave S That's actually tougher to do than you think. However, I have used gears for some of my wolf's tooth experiments in the past :-)
yey new episode ^_^ so happy
Good stuff!!
Thank you!
I Love IT!
Good to see a new video buddy, been to long. You gonna get that serpent in the sword finished? lol i only kid, well sorta
It will be finished and I will post a video here when it's done. I just need to find the right space.
Niels Provos
That's good to hear, your craftmanship is so beautiful and i love watching your videos, they are relaxing in a way.
excellent video as always, but why are you using imperial?
Imagine how long it would have taken smiths of antiquity to cut Wolf's Tooth patters in steel by hand...
impressive.
awesome
Niels Thank you.
I'm looking at retirement in a few years, and this looks interesting. Maybe by then you'll be looking for an apprentice.
Be well,
that is one HUGE padlock to be honest 0.o Are you making it that large on purpose to familiarise yourself with the process so you can downscale it later?
Estaría bien subtitular el video en español , gracias
What is the maker of your screw press?
Do you mean the fly press?
Yes
I cannot hear anything over the music :(
finish the serpent in the blade please :)
ok see you in 6 months
Don't make a video with a unfinished project and make me wait for the rest of it, that's for tv not youtube.
You're missing the whole piont of it being a diary entry. This way we get interstitial installments, rather than waiting for a completed project. The time involved is staggering, plus having a 9-5 job on the side.
