In this video I will organize my kids complete disaster playroom which is waayy overdue! Before all the holidays, Halloween, Christmas and a bunch more clutter to come with them, I decided it is the perfect timing to do a big organization and declutter before I decorate this playroom for the holidays!
This is the first time organizing this room in tiy rotation since this is our new house and I we had all toys mixed up when moving, so there is no organization right now. But let's fix this, and get you motivated to organize your forgotten areas in the house as well!

I used to keep the “teaching” toys separate and we would get one or two out each day and play “school” fir 30 or 45 min. The kind that teach colors or animals or letters. When they lost interest those toys would be put away and things that were more immaginative play were there for them. Things like dolls and dishes, etc. A couple of times a week we had “crafts”. Coloring or stringing big fat beads on shoe laces to make necklaces. I think it helped to get them ready for kindergarten. Not for everyone but it worked for us. 😊
Hi Jean! I love that system of yours, makes all sense! You just reminded me of the crafts!!! I did not even think of that, I guess I forgot that section. They have a sort of an organizer downstairs by the kitchen and my daughter spends a lot of time with crafts. I just got her a Walmart organizer for crafts as she is growing into it and, like you said, to get them ready for kidergarden and school!

I also love those pouches for puzzles and anything with tons of tiny pieces. Makes me sad each time a puzzle frame is too big to fit the pouch (I never got the bigger pouches).
We do this too, having only the teaching toys separate. We used to have a toy rotation set up with rotating all toys but my kids constantly asked for the toys that weren't in rotation - or simply got them from the closet the toys out of rotation are in (my kids are 3 and 18 months old).
So we have now an arts/crafts corner, a play kitchen corner, a dress up corner, a small world/building/vehicles corner, a reading corner and a music corner throughout the apartment. Key for my sanity was to keep the different types of toys separate in their own corners - makes cleaning up every evening a breeze (maximum 10 minutes this way) and also makes it easy for the kids to know exactly where everything is.
Games and educational toys are all in the closet and we take one or two out daily. A lot of these educational toys have tons of small parts and in contrast to other toys, it matters not to loose the pieces. I just have a higher chance to keep everything together when it goes back to the closet after we're done. The amount of time spent with educational toys when they were out vs open ended toys is so limited - it's just not helpful to give them all day access to these toys (it used to be 5% of their playtime but 90% of cleaning up time). They do have a small shelf next to their books with some of the puzzles and educational stuff on which they are currently working on, when mastering a skill. Those I do rotate based on need. But that's only every couple months, and nothing with too many tiny parts.
Too frequent toy rotation was a major stressor for me, so I'm really gald how it works for us now. It's much more toys out but everything has it's place and even my littles have no problem knowing exactly where everything goes and helping to clean it up.
Plus, we have a quarantine box in which I put toys that I noticed that they haven't played with in a while. If they don't ask for it for several months, it's being donated. During toy rotation, every toy that was gone for a while, was suddenly interesting again when out again - that's one point of toy rotation after all. Problem is, not for long - at least with my kids. It didn't give a toy new live in our case, as intended, but it just made it harder for my kids to let go of it, even if they lost interest in it again after literally a couple minutes. For us, without toy rotation, it is much more natural to slowly get the toys out, they are not interested in any more, or that are only played with very little, and donate those.

Great Job!!! Toys are expensive and what you are doing makes sense. You may want to think about when a new toy comes in, an old toy gets donated, just a thought but it worked for me when my girls were young….

I did not do toy rotation with my children but you have inspired me to do it with my grandchildren’s toys becauseI have gone OVERBOARD! 😂 Now my house looks more adult since babies do not live here.
It is hard fir me to think about fall because here in Nee Orleans it is still very hot. I am slowly pulling out things and customizing new things.
I love a few TH-camrs who create decor on a budget. I love love Olivia’s Romantic Home. She does lots of different styles and shares ideas to switch up from farmhouse to shabby chic and even modern but ALWAYS on a budget.

First of all, the playroom is beautiful, you are fortunate to have a room in your new house to do that.
I raised my kids in the 80’s and toys were never abundant like today. Plus I didn’t allow to much coming in my home anyway 😂 No, they certainly didn’t miss out on anything and we spent a lot of quality time doing things together. My kids though, on the other hand has filled their homes with toys for their kiddos 🫣

Hi Regina! I grew up with just a couple of toys as well. I find it funny, one of my favourite "toys" was an alarm clock , that old fashion one. hahahha! But now I have my husbands parents and relatives buy us so many toys and I can;t keep track of where they are coming from! Kids are lucky nowdays, especially in America! But we gotta keep that traffic of stuff going out of the house, not just coming in! 😊💕

Too funny, my daughter when she was 5, asked Santa for an alarm clock, she loved it right into her early teens.
I have children in their 40''s and a couple in their 20's and I rotated toys all their childhoods. I think when there is a great amount of choices it overwhelms children and that's why they have toys all over they place.

I don’t do a true toy rotation but I do keep a bunch of her toys stored away. So she has free access to her books and dolls and the things that go alongside the dolls like their clothes and accessories and play food and a few other boxes like magnets and duplo at all times then all her games and puzzles , crafts , Lego, playdoh , anything with small pieces or that makes a mess are stored away but she can ask for them out at any point then they go back when they’re finished with (or that’s the idea it doesn’t always happen!)
I just got a bigbox to throw them all in indeed better options for small space

Toy rotation is the best for the cleaning mum and the kids. I organised my daughter's stuff according to items. Puzzle day, clay day, Barbie day, colouring bla bla bla
Maybe some high shelves so the kids can still see the puzzles and ask for them.

Good idea..but only have about 4 or 5 puzzles there. Then rotate a couple of them with others you have locked away somewhere.

Rotation was not something I know about when my daughter was little. She had a lot of stuff to play with . We tryed to sell some of the things she did not play with. And for the money we got new stuff . Or donate some stuff for children who had less then us. My daughter is now 25 . But back then her room was a hot mess many days. I slowly got the hang of it over time. I am sure you fine your way and what work for you .😊 love Mona

I didn’t use toy rotation but I think it’s genius!
i organize toys by type and i have half of them in a closet that the kids can not go into. if they want a toy group like lego or barbie that is in the closet then i do make them trade me for a toy that is already out in the Livingroom. i have 5 kids 11 to newborn age.
