"It takes like 15 - 20 min to fix... In my head." Completely get it. Im glad you embrass your obsession and understand your passion. You have accepted that this is who you are and what makes you, you. No need to rationalize any of it. It has seemingly made you relatively successful; own and run a small business, family etc. Enjoy all of it!
I never understood BMW’s until I bought my 5 speed e39 wagon but these cars are just *worth* putting the effort into fixing so much moreso than most other old cars. E39’s weren’t exactly sports cars but they were very well built.
This was one of the most relatable videos of my life that I have ever seen.. Not a BMW guy, but definitely a car guy. You are not alone Eric and we are definitely not normal. But hey, at least it makes two of us 😂
No need to call yourself dumb....pursue your passions. This video reminds me of a quote that is about fishing, but probably applies equally well to cars: "My biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it." =Koos Brandt
If you want to buy 500 busted Beemers DO IT. If I had the money to buy old busted Mopars or 60's GMs I would. If you have the passion, (and the space,) get everything you want! Because they're phasing out internal combustion, and good parts are getting hard to come by.
As a fellow BMW enthusiast, I definitely get it. I had an '02 530i with the 5-speed manual and the M-sport package, but it always needed something. Hearing you talk about some of your cars was very close to my experience with my E39. I replaced my E39 recently with a Yas Marina blue M as well. It really is an amazing color and I absolutely love your E46. Thanks for doing this video and letting a few of us fellow BMW enthusiasts commiserate with you. Keep saving & enjoying those machines!
It takes a really big man to admit “I have a problem.” It takes an even bigger man to do so on TH-cam. You have a great collection and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Speaking as a father, and now a grandfather, you have an awesome opportunity to build a lifetime of memories with your son, so take advantage of your car addiction and make those memories with him and any future children and grandchildren. Thank you for all the great videos. I’m glad I stumbled across your channel, and am now a subscriber, Eric!!
I'm on my 3rd BMW and have had really good luck with all 3 . I'm partial to the normally aspirated 3 lire straight six .Your fantastic M3 project is what steered me to your channel.
You can thank M539 Resotrations for making me now want to binge watch all your videos. I stumbled upon his channel and now I can not get enough of old BMW videos! Great content!
BMW guy here and loved this video because I understand completely where you're coming from. Currently have 4 and 0 time to fix and maintain them all. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Keep up the good work, your videos are some of my favorites on TH-cam
You definitely choose the right brand. Driving BMW by myself since I was 20, starting with a 520 E12, followed by a 525 E12. an E24 633csi, 2 E34 and since 2003 my E39 touring 530d with a pimped engine (app. 220 HP and 500 nm of Torque) now at 433 tkm . And I loved all of them They are fine, reliable cars, always worth the money.
Your E34s are spectacular. The stars of the show and rightfully so. Thank you for driving them properly! Now you just need an E12 to round out your 5er assortment 😎
This is a really good video. “Confessions of a car-aholic”. Everything you’ve done and do make way more sense than you give yourself credit for, given your access to parts and knowledge. Just keep it rolling!
I learned a lot. I'm not a BMW guy at all. I do appreciate anyone that has a love for a particular car. I watched the series on the Laguna Seca blue BMW. I think it's awesome the way you're bring the car back to its original condition.
I have to say that's a nice collection of modern classic BMWs. I've had/have a 2002, E21, E30, E34, E36s, E39 and F30 so I like this content too. I came for the engine teardowns, but I stayed for the BMW content. :)
I get it! Former M Roadster and n54 335 owner. I obsessed about anything e36 or e46, e90 for years… Manual trans, in-line 6, high revs. Awesome content!
Thanks for doing this. I'm also a huge BMW fan. I've had a bunch of BMWs; E28, E24, E30, E36, E90, E46, F80. The Early 90s/late 80s BMWs are without a doubt the sweet spot. So easy to work on and drive a like a dream. Peak BMW. I HATE that I sold my E28 535is last year. It was perfection.
Eric, a true car guy can a) never have enough of his favorite vehicles, b) in my case, never enough horsepower AND never enough vehicles. Your BMWs are awesome. Never stop the inner drive to acquire what the heart loves. My thing is hi horsepower performance cars and classics both of the American variety, but with ANY brand that you love, the sky is the limit. Love your channel bro. Big Al.
I am the Porsche version of you, but with only 2 P cars, but want every one ever made. Again, price inflation for these in the last ten years has dampened my actually collecting more of them. Totally relatable video, thx Eric!
It’s nice to know that I’m not alone! I am 5 deep right now. I always justify it by saying “if you going to drive old bmws you need to have a few to drive while the others are broken”. :-)
I get your obsession with 90s bmw cars. Unfortunately in Australia they are quite a bit more expensive so I had to wait to get one. Finally got an e38 735il as I always wanted one. Silver with black interior. Then had to sell it to buy a house. A few weeks ago I swapped a rusty 74 mercedes for a 2000 735il that was destined for the scrap yard. It was in surprisingly good condition so Now I have to fix everything before licensing. But I love the car
Finally! Somebody with a bigger BMW problem than I have LOL!! I could clearly relate to everything that you were saying about these cars. I just kept on buying mine because they were cool and rare and manual transmission… At some point, I got to 14 BMWs. I had anything from a 1991 850 to a 2020 M2CS. Thankfully, I was able to sell 4 Of them this year. And only bought one incremental one. The biggest difference between your collection and mine, is the fact that I have three E60/61 cars. Project wise, I am doing a one off E 46 M3 touring conversion. Six speed manual, of course stroker motor. I’m hoping praying that this project car is gonna be done by July 2022. Keep up the great work in hope to meet you someday so we can compare notes. My rarest two BMWs that I own are a 1995 M5 Touring EVO and 2020 M2 CS. My most favorite cars are 2006-2008 Z4 M Coupes. I have two of them. One is higher miles modified and the other one is low mile bone stock collector condition. I think that these cars are the most underrated BMWs right now. No offense to E 46 M3s, but the E86 cars are just amazing.
I know how this happens. At one time I had 7 Mercedes from the early 70s to early 80s. Rubbish after early 90s. I have fixed up BMs that I have had as debt repayments. They seemed nicely built but flimsy. They drove beautifully in the dry but were fairly tedious in the wet if you just wanted to get somewhere quickly. Just love your channel. You are just straight forward and don't take yourself too seriously. I had a Merc that I'd done everything to and swore I'd keep. One too many divorces and off it went with my lovely early 80s G. I'd have the car back whatever state its' in. I had it 35years, my dad borrowed it even! I'm sad I made a mistake. Good luck.
THESE ARE AMAZING DECISIONS, You're not only saving these beautiful vehicles from being scrapped, preserving them for future generations possibly, you're improving them, and it seems like you're having "fun?" doing it.
I am addicted to 2001 BMWs. I own a 740i Sport, a 740iL, and my wife drives a 325ci. Also interested in an X5. These are our daily drivers. We own a couple of other cars but we don’t drive those much.
I must have passed you in public somewhere and caught what you have, because I'm becoming that kind of guy. I have three BMWs, I finished my 530i a few months ago and just recently purchased a 01 330i, but the thing is love having this problem. I've learned a lot and want to learn more. You just got a new sub!
Just got a call from different sources & BMW's are landing in my lap. E39.e38, e31. Have a e38is already as a daily (loving it) but can't get enough. Z3m in the works too & saw an e28 m5 locally but probably not for sale (maybe). Addiction? Nah, just pure love affair. Need more space!! Good luck 👍
Bless your obsession, it is more relatable than you may realize. I completely re-did a 2001 740i (short) (over 15k in parts) and though I loved that car more than any other car in my 58 years I don't want another one. Actually I do, I want a collection of Bimmers like you have but living way out in the sticks with rutted dirt roads was the reason I sold the E38 and I won't move so no more nice cars. I do nice trucks now, I only have 4 and have spent way too much on them already. :D
I feel your pain bud. I just bought another EJ25 just because it was $200. Intake valves leak in #1, exhaust valves leak on #4, and a clean combustion chamber in #3(head gasket leak). Just standard EJ stuff and fun to play with at this point. Once it's cleaned up, i just need to find a Impreza or Forester with a blown motor for cheap. And we're not gonna talk about my Jeep YJ/TJ 4.2/4.0 addiction. You're not alone. We're all in this together. Love all your videos. You seem genuine and light hearted . Keep it up bud
Dude I love your engine tear down videos and you are almost at 100k! But since you’ve shown us your obsession I’d love to see more videos of these cars as well as you working on them. Never hurts to mix it up a little!
I just love watching somebody who is passionate about something making videos. Make what you want to make, I'll watch it because your love is visible in your videos. Thanks for taking us with you!
You are not the only one! I’m a Ford guy with terminator cobra, supercharged marauder , lightning pickup and older F-150, pickups but recently out of the blue I bought a 1995 red bmw 540i 6 speed car and fell in love with it. Had plan to flip it but the more I look into them the more I want to keep it. Thanks for sharing your addiction!
Even if you never finish all the unusual cars you save you're going to help them find their way to the owners that will finish them which is pretty cool too. Love your channel!
I feel you. I once had a 2000 540i/6 sport. Awesome to drive but I don’t have space to wrench so it got expensive quickly. It was and still is my dream to swap that drivetrain into a wagon and add a Dinan supercharger. If I ever become worth eight figures or better, that will be my project.
It's definitely a collection, and an awesome one! I appreciate you saving the rust free... Orange? Car. Thanks for sharing. Would love more videos on your projects.
Very nice collection I owned a red e34 535i that ran forever until the gauge cluster decided to quit. Fun car not that fast but very fun to drive. I like your collection the wagon is the one to keep very rare.
I'm the mustang version of you. The first step toward solving a problem is admitting that you have a problem. So for all those people out there that have a car collecting/hoarding problem I wish you luck because I don't have a problem with collecting/hoarding cars, I love it. 😎 I look at it like this, if people like us weren't out there these cars most likely wouldn't be here because most of them were unloved and on their way to the junk yard. A lot of rare 60's and 70's muscle cars are here right now because someone collected or hoarded them when they were worthless and should have been junked.
You are not dumb.I understand you completely. If someone who knows anything about cars and don't listens internet ,buys and drives BMWs it will fall in love with them.Yes there are more reliable cars, more comfortable ect, but there's something about BMWs that is hard to explain. My connection started with E30 318is in Europe in the middle of 90s and never lost.Kinda like my first love who I still hope to see one day.If you are mechanicly inclined you can easily fix them and enjoy it for long time.If only BMW can figure out those pesky oil leaks everything else is cake walk.Just go with inline 6 and you are good.Cheers.
I can 100% understand your love for the black wagon. I personally adore wagons and hatchbacks, not sure I'll ever understand why they are so uncommon now. A sleek wagon, preferably with AWD and decent power would be a dream car for me too.
Great video. I have owned 3 BMWs and still have 2 of them. Like any cars, BMWs have their issues, but they are great cars for people who appreciate cars.
Even tho the only BMW I would own might be a 740il, I hate the rest of the line. That said, I thourghly loved the video! You are so brutally aware of being a crazy car guy! Yes, you did. Your Saturday night vids come on right about the time I am wrapping up for the day and are becoming a habit. I too live in the St Louis area so it's great to see a local guy doing well.
Holy shit - Someone who shares my addiction! Hahaha My stable includes… 4 E39s (my favorite): two 2000 528’s (one auto shwartz/shwartz, another manual in oxford over stone green) [very rare!], a 98 540i manual (aspen silver over aubergine, another rare combo) and an 02 M5 in Sterlingrau Ive got 2 E38s, one 98 Vermontgrün long wheelbase and one 2000 Orientblau Short/Sport I sold my e34, it was a 95 540i sport (rust ☹️) I have a Lachhsilber E24 635CSi And then the two “new” girls, a deep sea blue f10 535 Manual and a grey 08 328xi (manual)… Glad to see Im not the only BMW addict
@@I_Do_Cars nor have I! I love the 95 540i My Calypso 95 was a 6spd too.. got it for FREE after it sat for 10 years in a field. It too needed a fuel tank lol. Enjoyed similar shenanigans in that car til I blew 6th (which I didnt think was possible) and lost interest- it also had some rust which I didnt want to chase. Definitely regret selling it. That car took a hell of a beating!
Great video - a nice change from your normal ones! I know a guy in Frankfurt who also has a TH-cam channel that you might get on well with. More of these will build the channel too. Keep ‘em coming.
Man, I'm not a BMW guy, but this video was cool. Spoke to my heart because if I did what you did I'd probably have 3 or 4 90s ford rangers, a full size bronco or two and maybe one or two mustangs.... From every body style. If your familiar with what your getting into, the decision severity becomes skewed.
Its funny I been watching a few videos here and there and just watched the N55 tear down, the way you talked about the n55 seamed like you really didnt fuck with eurotrash. But watching this video, thats completely not the case at all and kinda caught me off guard lol. I recently got a 14' 435i msport coming from an old e46 but The wagon is amazing & you just gained a sub. cheers from rusty new england.
IM DROOLING OVER THE BLUE E36 ITS MY FAVORITEYOU HAVE! I HAVE A HELLROT 318 AND ITS MY FAVORITE CAR I EVER HAD EVEN WITH THE SLOW 4 BANGER ITS MORE THRILLING THAN MY MITSUBISHIS AND OTHER JAPANESE CARS IVE SNAKED THROUGH THE CANYONS.AMAZING COLLECTION IM SURE ILL BE THE SAME REAL SOON AS YOU LOL
Learning bodywork isn’t too hard to do, man. And trust me, I’ve never seen a properly done job on a bmw by a body shop. Which is why I’m doing my e39 at home. Both rockers, drivers quarter, drivers rear footwell, battery box, opposing side air vent, tail pan etc
The fact that you can´t put a finger on what does it for you with BMW, makes you are real car enthusiast. I have the same thing with Audi´s. Really love your videos. Greetings from Denmark
BMW’s are great, easy to change wear parts and unless you go latest model parts are very cheap due to volume. Fun to drive. I daily drive a E90 and love it to bits!
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for posting them. I am very impressed by your knowledge, but also your ability to present in such an engaging, humorous, and interesting manner.
My favorite car of all times is the mighty E34. I had one for like 12 years - euro spec 520i with the M50 w/o Vanos. Not the fastest one for sure, but I really enjoyed it. The sound of the straight six was something addictive. Even now i still turn if such a beauty passes by.
Had a 80 320i with sunroof, paid 550.00 for it drove it untill couldn't find any parts for it anymore. As the years went by had a blast with that car, the engine ran like a sewing machine fast and never skipped a beat.
As a BM fan-natic...whether you are hoarding, collecting or both...call it what they like....i say if you can have it...why not...get it...i just live the way the 2x 540's sounds. That engines are beasts
While this is not your most recent video, I am not watching them in order, so sue me. Dude, you are my hero. I do not want to meet Batman, I want to meet you. I am nowhere near as skilled but I appreciate your abilities. If there is someone who I would allow to work on my van, it is you.
Finally a man after my own heart. I Love BMWs & you certainly have some sweet examples. I only have 2 at the moment but one day I hope to follow in your footsteps.
I like cars, I'll never be able to afford to keep and run one of my own anymore. It's nice to see people that enjoy, cherish and keep some nice metal out of the junkyards and on the streets. If it makes you happy, go for it.
I hoard them too, but I don’t have the mechanical skills you have. I helped a friend sell her super nice 99 Dinan supercharged M3 on BAT a couple months agor. Great car. Best video about BMWs in ages. Keep them coming.
Loved this. Entertaining and interesting. It makes me curious about all the other cars you have owned over the years. Maybe a good video idea? Either way, this was awesome to watch as was hearing l the stories behind the BMWs!
I bought a BMW 4.8is Dinan S1 signature for the same reason. The mods were worth more than the X5. Getting the 320i running isn't going to be cheap. It probably needs fuel pump, warm up regulator, CIS head rebuilt, and fuel accumulator, maybe a fuel tank as well.
I love 90s BMW and Mercedes wagons. It'd be nice if people were more interested in that body style instead of SUVs. It has the same kind of advantages without being completely unreasonable for grocery shopping.
Thank you I resenting came across your channel and the next day after watching numerous engine disassembles I realized I'd been binge watching your channel So thank you for the very interesting distraction brother Have a great day God bless you and your addition Just saying
What a collection! Glad to see someone passionate about what they enjoy. Per the video location flag, I didn't know you were in St. Charles; I am too! Been watching your engine tear down vids for some time now 👍

Ha!! I liked when the camera pulled back and more and more BMW’S showed up. That’s a lot alright. 😁👍
For decades, BMW filled a void. Affordable performance and handling. Good seats, a no nonsense instrument cluster, and a reliable engine.
BMW E46 love
Not affordable at all LOL
@@Codeman785 comparatively yea

I have E46 coupe but always found the e39 more solid.
This video taught me that you have to be wealthy or mechanically inclined with a garage to own a used BMW. Nice collection
I think they're cool, but I prefer old GM or Mopars. They're SO easy to work on! I'd take a 70's Plymouth over a new Beemer any day!
This was one of the most relatable videos of my life that I have ever seen.. Not a BMW guy, but definitely a car guy. You are not alone Eric and we are definitely not normal. But hey, at least it makes two of us 😂

Actually I do, I want a collection of Bimmers like you have but living way out in the sticks with rutted dirt roads was the reason I sold the E38 and I won't move so no more nice cars. I do nice trucks now, I only have 4 and have spent way too much on them already. :D
These are some of my favorite line ups.

"Do not email me"
This video is a masterpiece on several levels!
Dude I feel u..i have e38 750il, 01 330ci, 011 550xdrive, 014 328xdrive, 013 f10 M5..i love bmw for life bro..ive owned other cars but bmw is my love
I love your “problem”! I’m glad there’s no “BMW-anonymous” … saving manual cars just needs to be done! (I’m a WRX guy!)
I love your videos and share your enjoyment for BMW’s. I’ve had 2 e36 an e46 and finally just got my e30! Please keep up the awesome videos!
Lol I can relate my first bmw was a 328i I brought it back to life and I ended up with 4 more
I'm the mustang version of you.
Keep them ponies going bud
Like any cars, BMWs have their issues, but they are great cars for people who appreciate cars.
these cars all have a timeless took to them as well. This is an awesome collection!
I too live in the St Louis area so it's great to see a local guy doing well.
my dad had a silver e39 with a black interior, 5speed, and style fives. i have since fallen in love with the body style.
God love you brother you do have an addiction....and I TOTALLY relate and admire your conviction to save these classics!
Holy shit - Someone who shares my addiction! Hahaha
My stable includes…
4 E39s (my favorite): two 2000 528’s (one auto shwartz/shwartz, another manual in oxford over stone green) [very rare!], a 98 540i manual (aspen silver over aubergine, another rare combo) and an 02 M5 in Sterlingrau
Ive got 2 E38s, one 98 Vermontgrün long wheelbase and one 2000 Orientblau Short/Sport
I sold my e34, it was a 95 540i sport (rust ☹️)
I have a Lachhsilber E24 635CSi
And then the two “new” girls, a deep sea blue f10 535 Manual and a grey 08 328xi (manual)…
Glad to see Im not the only BMW addict
Oxford on stone green? I’ve never seen one! Great collection.
@@I_Do_Cars nor have I!
I love the 95 540i
My Calypso 95 was a 6spd too.. got it for FREE after it sat for 10 years in a field. It too needed a fuel tank lol. Enjoyed similar shenanigans in that car til I blew 6th (which I didnt think was possible) and lost interest- it also had some rust which I didnt want to chase. Definitely regret selling it. That car took a hell of a beating!
Great sounding inline 6 engines is what I love and the comfort and driving them
Great video - a nice change from your normal ones!
Bless your heart. You picked a heck of a hobby! Thank you. Don't change!
At 51 just got my first BMW, I’m now in love with a Z4
Encyclopedic memory for cars, especially BMWs. Amazing.
Goes to show you have good taste :-) Greetings from Germany, love your channel! PS: My personal favorite is the E46 coupe.
You have an awesome collection of BMW'S. I love the stories on all the car's. Thank you for a great video enjoyed it. 😀👍🇨🇦
My favorite car of all times is the mighty E34. I had one for like 12 years - euro spec 520i with the M50 w/o Vanos. Not the fastest one for sure, but I really enjoyed it. The sound of the straight six was something addictive. Even now i still turn if such a beauty passes by.
I am not a BMW guy but I still appreciated your video. Looking forward to seeing more of your projects.
Had a 80 320i with sunroof, paid 550.00 for it drove it untill couldn't find any parts for it anymore. As the years went by had a blast with that car, the engine ran like a sewing machine fast and never skipped a beat.
That wagon is amazing!! You did a great job!
Here is another YT'er who shares your enthusiasm and passion: M539 Restorations ! You two could be "twins" !
I like cars, I'll never be able to afford to keep and run one of my own anymore. It's nice to see people that enjoy, cherish and keep some nice metal out of the junkyards and on the streets. If it makes you happy, go for it.
I have newfound respect for you man. This is prime time right here.
I hoard them too, but I don’t have the mechanical skills you have.
I helped a friend sell her super nice 99 Dinan supercharged M3 on BAT a couple months agor. Great car.
Best video about BMWs in ages. Keep them coming.
As a fellow owner of multiple BMW's I can't blame you. Fitting I stumbled across your teardowns and how ironic another owner! :)
Good to see you keeping and maintaining these old bmws which I grew up with mostly…keep up the good work!:)
The late 90s and early 2000s BMWs were Beautiful. I love the body lines!
Loved this. Entertaining and interesting. It makes me curious about all the other cars you have owned over the years. Maybe a good video idea? Either way, this was awesome to watch as was hearing l the stories behind the BMWs!
That wagon sounds hella good
I enjoyed this video TONS!! The beginning was hilarious - looking forward to seeing your affliction continue....
Dude, the wagen you introduced us to first is incredible. Kudos to you for making such a gorgeous machine.
Wagon=Touring in Germany, Estate=UK. Great video as always Eric. Glad you like the Manual, proper driving.
Been watching for a while. Another great video. Love your honesty in your videos, it’s a rare quality. Who doesn’t love the way a bmw drives.
Thank you
I resenting came across your channel and the next day after watching numerous engine disassembles I realized I'd been binge watching your channel
So thank you for the very interesting distraction brother
Have a great day
God bless you and your addition
Just saying
Fascinating video! Very impressed with your fortitude in completing all those projects!
What a collection! Glad to see someone passionate about what they enjoy. Per the video location flag, I didn't know you were in St. Charles; I am too! Been watching your engine tear down vids for some time now 👍
It's a passion which get you your emotions going.. Nothing wrong with that😎
I just bought my first e39 540 not too long ago…I can see my driveway ending up like this in the future!
