      plug a scanner in while its idling and watch the live data for your fuel trims and see if they are going way negative or positive. also watch your o2's and see if they start to get lazy when they heat up

      jay7264 True.
      also I had the same issue in my car it didn't liked to be idling for very long and the cause was the o2 sensor and also one of the fuel injectors that was not giving the correct pressure anymore.

    Holy perfectionist!!!!1 A little scrape on the bumper valance, a small dash imperfection, and yes... 2007 nav is going to suck, some 2016 factory nav sucks. Glove box sag... ask any older BMW owner! The wind shield does need replacing and the idle could be a bit annoying. :)

    To remove the idle issue fit a remote switch to open the exhaust butterfly (fuse 22) this allows you to have the loud exhaust when you want and alleviate the long term idle issue.

    With the SatNav (and I wonder if this is in your plans) you could potentially just tap into it as a display/and or utulise it's audio out too and use a raspberry pi/android box/carputer etc... and then fun's all yours.
    The question is if you they've been kind enough to RCA it and it's a Y cable or splicy slice time and custom interface.

    Hey Man,
    I loved seeing about the buyer of the Doug Aston. Please continue posting about this hand built girl. I am curious to learn about how this exotic holds up as she ages. Given the exposure this car has gotten, others may want to continue following up also. (I hope)
    It surprises me to hear about how relatively few cosmetic flaws are showing up. I had/have a lot more from my 2012 Fiat 500 Sport and my (VERY boring) 2014.5 Camry Sofa-Sleeper on wheels.
    Thanks! 😀

    My neighbours Vantage had the idle / check engine light fault. It went into Aston who cleaned the throttle body to help the idle quality and said that the O2 sensors were the cause of the check engine light not maintaining temperature after long idling.

    • @athenastarbrite2955
      @athenastarbrite2955 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's because it's an Aston . For the same year , say 2006, a jag XJ that cost $ 75k new go for same price as a Mercedes S600 ( 128k new ) and BMW 760 Li ( 119k new ). German cars are nice when new but don't age well like the British cars. I've compared Jaguars and Astons interiors to the 7 series, S class and A8 for the same year and mileage and the British cars held up much better.

    Sounds like you need to replace the pcv valve, or the Aston Martin equivalent. That will solve the idling causing check engine light problem.

  • @rasvial
    @rasvial 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    the exhaust is too restrictive? for idling? That makes no sense. Idling generates the least exhaust pressure, which is why turbo's have lag coming off idle. If the exhaust can handle the engine revving out, it has nothing to do with your exhaust pressure

    • @crittercherry3800
      @crittercherry3800 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rasvial
      Not necessarily. Aerodynamic Physics. Increase Air Speed (coming out of the engine into the manifold and pipe) and you actually decrease Air Pressure or Back Pressure. (Granted, the flaw comes in dumping exhaust back into the atmosphere, but the muffler's expansion might kill this either way.)
      Any number guys wanna run the math?

    • @rasvial
      @rasvial 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you increase the air speed, while maintaining the same volumetric flow, that is correct. The difference isn't really in exhaust air speed- at idle it comes out of the engine at the same rate (real fast, as if someone lit an explosion under it's ass). Besides air speed isn't really a good measurement- volumetric flow rate is a better one. The difference is in volume- at idle you're pushing no volume, meaning it doesn't generate as much gas to be forced through the same restriction at approx. the same velocity. At full throttle, you're intaking much more air and fuel, and it exits the engine at approximately the same speed, so if you have an exhaust restriction, it's most likely to impact higher RPMs first, as this will try to force more volume through the same restriction.
      (you asked for a "number guy"..)

  • @machobunny1
    @machobunny1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you stick with brake pads that are designed for the car, they will dust. They do that because they are made to provide greater friction without locking, and most compounds used do wear out more quickly...meaning the compound wears off as "dust".
    Look around for different compounds...but expect to pay a bit more to get top breaking power and long wear.

  • @waynemills206

    My 2014 Vantage would quit periodically when idling for short or long periods. It would start right back up again though. Once the engine light came on, then went out a few days later. When I got it into the dealership, they indicated a passenger side O2 sensor was at fault but they could not recreate the issue.
    The main gripes I had with the car was the tendency for it to pop out of gear in reverse, an on/off clutch engagement, tall first gear which was taller than reverse and made starting or parking on hills a pain. I also had it back four times for the fuel flap sticking closed.
    Seats, brakes, steering and suspension were excellent. Engine was ok, but didn't rev up easily from idle. Very comfortable long distance GT car.

  • @TheTarrMan
    @TheTarrMan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doug DeMuro old Aston Martin. I actually saw that car when he met up with us in Chiraq. The limb mode problem might possibly be a faulty coolant temp sensor or something related to the coolant overheating in that area due to low flow from idling. (That's my best guess of the top of my head from the information you gave in the video)

The President of the Southwest Aston Martin club said that the windshield on the Vanguish or Vantage (can’t remember which) was $15,000 to replace. I don’t know what year it was, either.

    To avoid brake dust get yourself some Akebono ceramic pads (or any ceramic pads for that matter). Best investment ever.

    You should get the whole car re wrapped once you get the body figured out.. your going to be killing lots of Florida bugs with front of that car... best to keep the slime off it.
    You should figure out a way to get your phone to display thought the pop up navigation screen. That would be a super cool mod, and might apply to a lot of cars that have navigation screens built into the dash.

    For 60,000 plus miles she is in pretty good shape. Of everything that’s been mentioned the leather piece sticking up on the passenger windshield corner, the glove box, and the drivers side skirt would have to be fixed right away. Love the black on black stitching.

    So I have had a Porsche and Infiniti and you get some bumper scrapes underneath like he showed where almost nobody can see it unless they are ducking underneath the car. Do you all think that really think that is a necessity that really needs to be replaced. And if another stone chipped your low bumper the next week are you paying 2k to replace it again?

    I did car interiors/ upholstery for 25 years, that in fact its split leather and the only way to do it is remove the dash assy p-anel, and recover the complete section and then, my friend, leather is a natural product it will noticeably be a darker shade due to age and fade, but even so it may be worth it ' i'll predict 1500 to 2500 min.. and a nightmare for the shop those British builds are asstasticly beautiful but built well, odd.. love the car and vid..love the martins keep it rubber side down...

    If the car is going to spend any amount of time in the FL sun you will want something to cover the leather dash with.
    Fix for idling problem - stay the hell away from the NYC area. For unexpected accident backups, shut the engine off and on as before, keep a full tank of gas and an empty milk jug in the car.

    you can tell this guy has never owned a high end car like this. he keeps saying "not a big deal" about areas that will cost fuckloads of cash. brakes $, loose running board $$, dash board/glove box $$$, complex engine light? $$$$$$ the front bumper work is probably the least expensive. id sell that thing AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! taking a small loss would be considered a win here

    and if its a naturally aspirated car, idling without moving means there's no air being forced into the intake manifold and it essentially becomes oxygen starved, remedy if to get some speed going to get air flowing into the engine
