Blue Roses and Painted nails recall Maomao’s mother and Laken’s past love. Lakan is unable to recognize faces, a real problem a few people really have, but Lakan’s passion for Maomao’s mother was not her looks but her pride, genius at GO and Shogi, and smarts, perhaps even similar non-socialability.
Blue roses cannot naturally occur due to missing genetic components. Recent genetic engineering has been able to add necessary genetic elements. Still rare and expensive.

Xiaolan is a wonderful character (and person) who is not seduced by Jinshi. She would be a great person to add to Gyokuyou and/or Suiren.
