This is just for fun. This is not the final version, or to be used commercially, or for me to make money on. This is a cover of my own music using AI tools, handwritten music, my own original story and about 300 hours of time all together. This is your opportunity to go listen to Dream Theater for real and give them all the love that they deserve. I will not share my secrets or exact process on how this was made, nor create a tutorial. I am an advocate of legislation in favor of AI ethics, and criminal charges against insidious AI usage. I will remove this if asked by any relevant party.

Eight years after the story's original telling, the prophecy has come true in the most unexpected way-with the birth of a magical poop covered in rainbow sprinkles. Take in the intricate sounds of Dream Theater infused with a tale of absurdity. Poopdoody Gumdrop isn't just any poop-he's a fantastical hero born from some weird ideas. I'm adapting my own work into this version of something like a fan fiction, to take place within the world of the The Astonishing, sort of like a meta-commentary on the Nomacs. It's a fun exercise, the next chapter of this adaptation will make it more evident that it fits within that framework.

What I'm saying is that The Astonishing has been for me one of the 3 best albums in the band's history, because they bet on something different, they took risks, they didn't stop at doing the same thing over and over again, it's clear that The classic DT fan wants the band to continue sounding like Images and Words when in reality all the great bands, Rush, Genesis etc. have always EVOLVED, that's why now they bring back the uninnovative Portnoy to go back to the past! an alarming sign of a band that prefers popularity at any price, when they had found a perfect sound and synchronization with Mangini

I would not fault him for using an AI voice model of his own voice to enhance the album, if he were transparent about it. After all, it's his voice. Then on tours it could be widely known that it's in the mix. Not unlike de-aging Harrison Ford or others for recent movies using the effect. It's an enhancement, not a detriment

@@BreemanAMV and I pulled it from streaming. It was the wrong audio file, and I also don't feel quite right about it being monetizable, as this is a hijack of a very unique voice without his consent or knowledge as far as I'm aware.

@@Zyborggian the story has a full outline, there is a basic script, half of the songs are in final demo. Yes, the goal is to get real musicians to perform all of the music eventually. The animation is tedious, currently the focus is on animating the demo songs to have a proof of concept for backing, or I will create all of the animation and soundtrack using AI tools. This DrAIm Theater side project is an experiment, but this will not be the film's soundtrack. Ultimately, it is a satire of the current output of Disney, with a more direct parody on Wish, as will be understood, hopefully, in the next DrAIm Theater exercise.

I am worried about offending my heroes, the more I put into it, the more real it sounds, with vocal parts so powerfully accurate and expressive that I may be overstepping. There's A LOT of unused material that I weeks on throughout this process that are just too real for comfort.

I've been a fan since WDADU, And I think this is brilliant and tragic all at the same time. I listened to the whole thing by the way. James sounds very natural. It's kinda' creepy... Frank Zappa (RIP) himself would have given you an award for this in another life...
I, too, am a lifelong fan. Me and DT were born the same year lol. My first car's license plate was Ytsejam1. If they reach out to me and ask me to take this down, I will in an instant. It's the prophecy set in The Astonishing fulfilled, and a majority of doing this project, by turning my story into a DT song, is hopefully to inspire the other half to give The Astonishing a refreshed listen and appreciate the story, and their real music.

Whomever did this knows the DT formulas inside out...Could be AI, lol. The lyrics are funny as hell.
I've been driving since 2003. This next part is a little hyperbolic, but the spirit of truth is here - every Dream Theater album that came out went into the car CD player and didn't come out until the next album was released. The Astonishing made that difficult. This is about 11 hours of ai content carefully curated, mangled, subtracted from, added to, modified, and some of the instruments are written by hand. The voice is a bit more complex, and took the longest to perfect. The story is 100% human labor and is part of a larger narrative. I apologize for the long answer, but I am going out of my way to be transparent about the AI use in this song, and also, this was not created by pushing a button. Overall, this took 2-7 months, 3 hours a day, and if the band hates it, it will disappear without regret.

So AI did James? Honest question.
No. I did that myself. The vocals produced by AI are blended and lean more towards Geoff Tate. I experimented with making my own private Labrie model, which I used in the Queen Sukkabutt song, but the generated voice sounded like a blend of Geoff Tate, Geddy Lee and Jon Oliva, and some of the Scandinavian power metal singers. It didn't translate well in the voice switch. So I did my best impression to get the cadence and pronunciation and stitched all that together, mixed with a ton of manual processing in FL Studio, to get the voice in this song.

I think my answer was unclear actually. James was not generated but I trained and retained a voice model for different singing styles of James model, with only a few times I added low volume, pitch shifted layers of the generated "prog metal singer" voice to fill in noticeable glitching. Technically AI is responsible for nearly all of this, but if you were referring to what was generated initially, only about 10% of that voice is present and it never takes center stage.

@@thesqueakytree I saw that you combined your own input, but I didn't see what specific plugins or programs were used.
The generated audio comes from three sources, Udio, Suno and Sonauto. There are several voice models privately trained on my machine using RVC2, another with o2 super, and two using pre-trained models before fine-tune training. FL Studio VSTs include Flex, Miraslav Philharmonic 2, Varazdin. Some guitar is an Ibanez soundfont ran through Neural DSP archetype. Stock daw compressors and stereo. Ozone 9, various settings depending on stem. Stems achieved though UVR5 ensemble mode. Vocal layers include the generated default prog vocals mixed with my best impressions ran through the appropriate model for the singing style. Some flute was blended in at times to fill out the singing for a richer vocal transfer. Goldwave for easy WAV editing and volume controls, reference mastered sections, then overall reference master after splicing together. Artwork combination midjourney, ideogram and Adobe products. Chances are, there are more tools used but I did not keep a production journal. I know I am not remembering every tool at the moment but these were the heavy lifters. The lyrics were written by my brain.

What AI program did you use to make this?
This required something more like 20 programs and ~300-500 hours of labor. Your band is awesome and I respect where this question is coming from. The vocal model is a blend of an existing weight, a flute VST, a generic Geoff Tate-esque generated with the instrumentals and my own voice that I then transferred using applio. That process had to be repeated several times to get the final "voice". The music is generated using commercial websites for the most part, with orchestration and wind instruments written by hand and sequenced in a DAW, which I have gone into greater detail throughout the comments to keep a detailed AI-usage transparency record.

Not as it's presented. That's several parts edited together from three or four completely different generated sections and versions, the wind instruments were written by hand, the strings are transcribed from a pattern that was generated as a piano, and some of the piano was hand written. The best metaphor to describe this song is Frankenstein's Monster. Every limb and finger and feature were generated by nature, but curated, modified and assembled in a specific manner to form an uncanny resemblance to something real. Like the monster, this does not contain the soul of the parts picked from the corpses, but it reflects the twisted passion of it's Creator
