I played this (DMed this) at college. 32 deaths when six players were trying to paint a green hallway purple... good times.
I played this in the 90s--GM'd it, actually--and had some ridiculous moments like that. One single-day adventure was about new laser pistol maintenance requirements, and it ended up with most of my Troubleshooters killing each other from--what else?--sheer paranoia.
But there were no plots. No mutants. No Communists. Only individualized instructions, random alarms, timers, and messages that went to one group but not another.
Sadly, about 20-25 different maintenance men died in addition, but Friend Computer was testing the new Weapons, Fatal; Eclectic; Memetic, Epistemological, and Ontological research.
Good times. Goooooood times. Friend Computer was most pleased with the research outcome.
That scenario rings a bell. Our group was just off of another campaign (well I say group 1 survivor now promoted to green and 4 brand new characters) Green in the group ordered me down the corridor to much bloodshed, which painted the corridor red, and therefore the entire group now had sufficient clearance to proceed.
I haven't played paranoia, but my dad told me of a time he was running a game. The group had to pilot a submarine, however the clearance level of the manual was too high and so they had to guess what buttons to press.

We had to operate an air-and-ground defence system at a remote outpost that Friend Computer had decided was strategically necessary...
We had three different levels of player with instruction manuals coded according to rank... Though nobody realized this at first because they all got misinformation about the controls. Since nobody high enough to know everything was there, instead of comfortably wiping out an incursion of sinister Communist (part of a plot we never finished) infiltrators flying in on microjets with all the lasers and missiles, we ended up blowing up huge amounts of not-Commumist stuff like rocks and trees, standing on the roof trying to shoot their microjets down with pistols, fighting them in the outpost and only won because someone accidentally triggered the self-destruct option... By won, I mean we all died but had at least one clone of each player left...
You know, I'm not the superstitious sort. I'm don't believe in magic, or ghosts, or supernatural and/or dimensional energies... But the Wil Wheaton Dice Curse is making a believer out of me. That's a curse if I've ever seen one.

There is nothing superstitious about luck. It's just a weird phenomena of chance that seems to stick to people in either direction. I say this as someone who has been nicknamed the "Walking Statistical Improbability" with how shitty my rolls/draws/topdecks etc are in pretty much fucking everything.
back in the day when i played a lot of war... my friends hated to atack me because for some bullshit reason whenever they atack me the red die just seem to like the 3 and the 2... it happened all the time

And some have really WEIRD luck where they'll roll extra well for several turns and then roll a 1 at the worst possible moment. Sneaking into the bad guy's lair? I'm INVISIBLE. Sneak past the guys around the corner? I am utterly silent. Sneak up on the sleeping guards and tie their shoelaces together? NAILED IT. Sneak past the invisible hag? WILL Save? I AM NOW A MOUSE.

The sheer delight of the GM is absolutely priceless. Laura Bailey just gave Ivan Van Norman the best gift ever.
To play paranoia properly, each player needs to be able to slip notes to the GM and other players. Sometimes I used to pass blank notes or notes that just say "nothing" on it. It keeps people on their toes and makes them PARANOID.
I'm late to the game but that's dirty AF and I love it. Smart move. Might steal that from you.
Pre-covid, my friends would text across the table. Now we just use the private message/whisper function.

@@TheJimtanker fair enough. I started early 2000's, so no one had text phones at that point. The texting in my group really started several years ago when the GM decided to run a Dark Side Star Wars campaign and none of the characters trusted each other.

I appreciate the mix of personalities they have here but I mainly just came to see Matt Mercer. Dude breaks character so little. It's a joy to seem him crack every once in a while.

It's beautiful. I miss the exquisitely balanced terror and glee behind my Troubleshooters' eyes like it was a fine wine, and what I loved most was using completely and obviously innocent events to, well, cause them to murder each other, or so-called innocents (I call them undiscovered Commies and mutants) so that Friend Computer could punish at will by giving them absolutely absurd mini-missions.
10 minutes? I've gone through all six clones faster than that. Amateurs!

@@benjie128 Paranoia is a parody of dystopian science fiction; the closest thing that comes to it is watching Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil', as both heavily parody the novel '1984' by George Orwell, which was also made into a good movie. If your not familiar with those works, I'd suggest checking them out.

The ideal game of paranoia results in the entire party burning through all six clones before getting to the mission briefing (the quickly rolling new characters and moving on)
I beg to differ. The ideal game of paranoia results in the sole surviving character saying to the de-briefing officer, "I can state without fear of contradiction..." I believe that is from the original rule book.
I ran a game of this and it was amazing! I didn't let any of the players know the rules. Their whole quest was to take a BA773RY subtype D unit to F1R3 detector device, which I had them all write down. Along the way they fought mutants, stopped a terrorist, blew up a building, and the whole time they never put together that they were taking a battery to a fire detector. When they realized as I described the detector device, it broke them. They tried to start a communist revolution and then killed each other. It was great fun!
why doesn't No Survivors get archived fully? I really enjoyed this one and would probably watch others, but Im never going to be a live viewer.

I got some in universe paperwork with my copy or Paranoia. One part of it had QR code that led to this. I do not regret scanning it

The UNKNOWN Not 100% sure, but I think it was called "DOOM" so everything that could go horribly wrong to Matt's character would go horribly wrong. I think reality ending is definitely that?

I reckon I had just as much of a good time watching this as the Critical Rejects episode. Tons of laughter and ridiculousness, which is much needed to get the idea of four ancient dragons out of my head.
Fantastic, it's amazing to get to see a game like this (which I didn't even know existed) played by these people. Totally worth watching the full 4 hours.
