Ну, баррэ, это не очень интересно. Даже малое баррэ. А вот когда, может быть, Фиби дойдёт до ренессансной лютни, то выяснится, что у левой руки целых три основных постановки. И они часто чередуются с бешеной скоростью...)))
Phoebe for a great banjo player you make a great guitarist. You will nail it in no time at all. There are no rules. Play the guitar the way that is comfortable for you. There are coated strings available which would be more gentle on your fingers too. What a very pleasant surprise when you plugged it into the amp. It sounds great! A big BRAVO to the wonderful person who sent the guitar to you. :)
Perfect size perfect colour coordination. What a brilliant gift. So fun to be a TH-camr. Many happy hours I hope. Yamaha make quality instruments. Martin London UK. You're lucky.
Its so fun to watch you discover that you are an instant guitar player! You are playing the guitar better than most people do after practicing for years.
Nothing can stop you.Expanding the "Wall of sound" instruments, you'll be able to play, record loops, play them loops back and accompany yourself into a universe of sound( esp if you use reverb) Fabolous sound acoustically so who needs more ,want the pure emotion to be heard. The years of practice shine thru
You're such a ray of sunshine! Congrats on the guitar. Yamaha makes great instruments and you're catching on very fast. I love your banjo playing, but look forward to more clawhammer guitar, with your cheerful attitude!
Phoebe, I think you sound wonderful. This is the first time for me, to hear about claw-hammer guitar. Just do this every day, and you will soon be professional. RB In Pennsylvania.
Glad a viewer reached out and bought you a new guitar. You obviously love music and practicing with a guitar will expand your horizons in the music world. Hang in there and your fingers will develop the muscle memory so the feeling is less weird. I love your banjo picking and love for learning music. Best of luck.
I just saw Molly Tuttle last night in Ashville. She played a couple songs clawhammer style on her new Martin series. Keep it up... I'll see you on the Opry one day. Just a feelin.
I have this amp. Okay, your amp has two channels you can select. The first volume knob is your volume for your normal channel. So if that button (drive select) is out, you are just using the basic channel. In this mode, the "Gain" and "Drive Volume" don't do anything. This is for normal general amplification. You also have a drive channel, for distortion really, it overdrives the input. You engage that with that "Drive Select" button. With that button down, the Gain and that other Volume knob are in play and you can make allll kinds of noise. Treble, Middle, Bass, those are just EQ settings. Reverb is self-explanatory, works for both channels. Most guitars with a pickup are not active -- it's just a magent and a coil of wire demonstrating basic electronics. So the knob on the guitar, think of that as the tap, like for your water, it lets through the signal from the pickup -- or cuts it off like a water tap. Again, that's the knob on the guitar. Your acoustic there I think might have an active pickup so there's a tiny bit of amplification happening in the guitar to boost the signal juuuuust a little more before it sends it to the amp. That's why the 9 volt battery you probably had to put in there. Either way, the signal coming out of the guitar is pretty low. That's why amplification. The aux in is for line level input, like a tape deck or something like that, say, if you want to play along with a backing track, plug that in there, there is no separate volume for that on the amp, so you have to adjust the volume for the input on the device you are inputting.
Almost all acoustic pickups are active. The K&K is passive, but this Yamaha isn’t equipped with a K&K. I was curious why she’s playing an acoustic guitar though an electric guitar amp?
Phoebe you did fantastically well! As a guitarist who occasionally dabbles in alternative tunings (although not claw hammer) I would say withe the G tuning you had, the 5th string is the tonic (G) so that's the string I think you should be hitting on the beat. The 6th string (D) is the dominant so maybe hit it alternative beats to the tonic. (?). Just to confuse you even more, some guitarists (eg Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones) discard the 6th string and just play on 5 in this tuning. Not suggesting you should do that! You're doing extremely well, can't wait to see your progress 🙂🎸
I can't wait to see Phoebe give a 12 string guitar a turn! Excellent work as always ❤ Keep up the amazing content, I hope this channel never changes (other than growing a huge following)
TH-cam the amp make/model to get info on user tips, etc- I do it any time i buy a new amp....you are light years ahead of anybody just starting out on guitar- you're doing exactly what all guitarists do- sitting cross-legged on the floor monkeying around with different tones/sounds/tunings...with regards to feedback- be aware of the tone/volume controls on the guitar(as well as on the amp)- if the tone/volume is too high it can cause feedback(and sitting too close to the amp)...you're doing awesome, Phoebe- God bless....
This will be so fun to watch you get good on this! I suggest that you watch some Molly Tuttle videos to grab some of her technique and tunings. Go Phoebe!
I have loved your clawhammer journey, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with the guitar. I have to admit, I'm a banjo music lover, so I'm a bit dubious, but you are a wise woman, and I look forward to watching your experience. Your benefactor is a nice person, and I thank him/her for her generosity! Edit: just because the strings are where they are traditionally placed, doesn't mean that you have to use that layout. Try a top string like the banjo. Also, buy some spools of nylon fishing line, and make your own "catgut" strings. A few dollars, and you have soft strings for years. Use different fishing line weights (string thicknesses) for the different strings: 60 lb weight bass, 50lb next, 40 lb next, etc. Have fun, lady!
Sounds great, Phoebe! It’s neat to watch because I did the opposite and learned to clawhammer on guitar first and then picked up the banjo. I’m working on a lesson video now.
ooo, just in the first 30 seconds you made me sooooo nervous with those scissors cutting toward you!!! Glad it ended well. Welcome to the geeeeetar! You've got this.I can't believe Molly didn't leave a ticket for you! You are famous, after all!!!
I don't know if someone has already said this, but most of those knobs are best used by an electric guitar. Complicated electronics aside, the knobs are as follows: normal Volume (makes amp louder or quieter), Gain (adds pre-amp volume, this will make it louder but will distort the tone, think rock an roll electric guitar. you probably don't want that sound on acoustic), Drive select button (changes the channel of the amp from the normal clean to the overdriven (again think rock and roll, probably stick to clean), Drive volume (changes the volume while in the drive channel), 3-band EQ (treble, middle, bass. adds/subtracts treble middle bass.) Reverb adds reverb. aux in is for plugging in a phone or something to play through the speaker, headphones send the output to the headphones and turn off the speaker. All in all a great little amp to learn on for acoustic or electric.
also i say probably for the drive stuff because music is subjective, if you press a button or turn a knob and it sounds good then you're doing it right. Doesn't matter if that's the intended use.
Alternate the two base strings, or either the E string and the D string(Im using standard tuning nomenclature). Your thumb is already doing the motion of it. It's a standard way, whether you're clawhammering, fingerpicking, or using a plectrum. Anyway, I'm excited for this, you're incredible!
I like the buzzing with the rhythm your doing just before 22:00 it may not be as clean but at least on the speaker I'm listening to now I don't hear the bass note as much but that buzz adds a percussive element. the guitar is a great new tool in your lexicon. keep it up
Excellent video! Not my style of music at all, but your talent is obvious and your smile is infectious. You have the best personality I've seen on TH-cam, I'm sure you have brightend many people's day as you have mine. It's great to see such a positive person nowadays.
You have to be kidding you mean for over 40 years I should have started playing banjo to be good at guitar. I have played all my life and I suck still but you are amazing and you sound like you have played guitar since diaper days. Great job I am impressed
Hi! Oddly enough, I am a 'not so young self taught' fingerstylist on acoustic guitar, and do claw hammer by nature! Lol. It's quite easy to apply to guitar. I suggest that you get yourself a decent 12 fret acoustic. If Martin is within the budget, either one of theirs, OR find a good vintage parlor 12 fret.
Not gonna lie. My son would say bad things if he knew I was following your effort here. Just so much fun seeing you perform here and there. The scene around your "shed." Is amazing. And so here I am, a 70 year old retired person. And so, just now and then, here and there, so much fun seeing you have fun. Thanks for sharing all of this. New Hampshire.
For no apparent reason I’m a clawhammer banjoist, but a fingerpicking guitarist. Not exclusively, I mean I sometimes do other things, but that’s the default. I’m sure You’ll find Your own sweet spots on all Your instruments and electronics. It’s awesome to see You expanding the range of Your musical experience. ❤🪕❤
I have always found short scale guitars preferable. Hope you enjoy yours. Might want to throw on a strap to get the guitar to stay in place against your body. It should help you find a good holding position.
I have a Fender Frontman 15R, as well. Normal volume adjusts the output when not in "overdrive" mode. Gain controls the input volume. Adjust that when you start to get feedback. Pressing in the drive select button turns on "overdrive" mode, giving the guitar a fuzzy sound. It's usually used with electric guitars. Drive volume adjusts the output when in overdrive mode. Treble, middle, and bass are your tone controls. Reverb does exactly what it says. It has a real reverb "tank" in it with springs so if you drop it or shuffle it while it's powered on it will make A LOT of noise if you have reverb turned all the way up. If you plug anything into the aux in jacks it will mix the stereo to mono, even if you have headphones plugged in. Hope that helps.
We have a little papillon that we named Phoebe and she likes to listen to my guitar 🎸 playing. She sat on my lap while you unboxed your guitar. She also enjoyed your music. 🎶. Her coat matches your outfit perfectly. lol. 👍
Linda combinación con la guitarra, brillante y limpia a la vez. Te felicito Phoebe por tu guitarra no conocía ese modelo tan pequeño y de gran sustain 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎶✨️
Love it! I have a Yamaha FGX800C. If it works like mine, be aware it is on when you plug in a cable, so remove the cable to prevent running down the batteries. Mine has a button you press to turn on the tuner, I press it again to turn it off, not sure if it powers off automatically. Anyway I prefer a tuner app on my phone, unless somebody else is performing at the time.
Nice gift Phoebe. Open G is used by a lot of slide players and famously by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. He leaves of the low D. string. Perhaps you could replace it with a regular G string to give a "Re entrant" tuning. I'm sure it won't be long before you get the hang of it. Have fun.
- Hard rock and heavy metal guitars emit smoke and sparks on purpose, at the push of a button or a foot pedal. Special fx! - Feedback: certain tones coming from the amp cause the guitar strings to vibrate (I think it's called something like sympathetic). The strings act almost like a microphone, feeding the tone back through the cable to the amp, which plays the tone some more, which vibrates the strings, etc. Often the feedback builds louder, and if it's not dealt with it could get so strong that it shreds the speaker material in the amp. - That is an awesome guitar. I'm glad it fits you. You're already playing two instruments!
Love to see that smile. Still need to make ya something to send to your PO box. A bit backlogged in projects while applying for work but I'll get something out eventually once I have time and the inspiration hits me. Also, I know you've covered it before but being on the back porch you need to have a cover of "Looking out my back door" added. Maybe make this a recurring segment and do a short variant of the song as a theme to open these. I would absolutely love that! 💛
You go! Sounds good to me. All amps are different, so find and read the owners manual. Give yourself time to get used to it. I remember transitioning from piano to "keyboard " way back when. New way of playing, new way of hearing, new way of listening. Just more of the dreaded "P" word! PRACTICE!
Phoebe, just go to Molly's show. I have never not gotten into a sold out show. Never paid more than list price. Someone will have bought tickets for a friend that didn't show up. I've seen Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris that way. Molly is worth seeing live. Give it a try.
You are an absolute natural! Fear not the extra strings, they are like extra friends, and who couldn't use that? :) I suggest you try fretting the top two strings to get your bass notes, though it's a bit of a departure from the banjo. Print a sheet of open G guitar chords, and you'll have the fingering for every chord. If you find the strings a little tough, try a thinner set... I believe your guitar comes with .12's, which is on the heavy side. Factory strings never sound great anyway :)
It warmed my heart to think about that lovely gift too! It reminded me of a young keyboard prodigy in Colorado. A local piano tuner bought the child a grand piano after hearing him play. edit: I found the video of Jude Kofi playing for the piano tuner: th-cam.com/video/_n3gOeX1084/w-d-xo.html
Hey there ! Loving the path your on.. Feels good to have stumbled upon your vids. I checked out Molly Tuttle as i hadn't heard of her before. She seems to be part Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. i'll keep my eye out for her up here in Nor Cal. Keep on keeping on !
Keith Richards was famous for plaing in g but removed the lowest string. It opened a unique door inspiring him to write some of the finest Rockanrole intro riffs for the Rolling stones
Fantastic to see your gifted today guitar. I’m interested in hearing the hammer guitar. It was really cool when you did the last time. Yamaha should be paying you for doing a commercial.
If you put on a larger string gauge perhaps just on the bass strings, it will help with the string buzz in drop tunings. As for the amp knobs, I can't explain it in a TH-cam comment, but regardless you're better off playing with the treble, bass, and reverb to get a sound you like. If you press the drive select button you can crank up the gain and lower the drive volume to get some distortion without blowing out your eardrums. That might be fun for a nontraditional sound. Feedback will be an issue with acoustic instruments and an amp. There are workarounds but just putting your body between the speaker and the instrument is good enough.
If you're going to play in open tunings you need to get a slide, instant swamp blues and so much fun. Also, I find the banjo to be the least ergonomic instrument I play, the round body doesn't balance on your knee like a guitar, and it's hell on my upper back and neck.
Phoebe: You are just a natural! Kudos to the fan who donated the lovely guitar.
Yes, thank you (by proxy) to that fan!
Agree 100%!!
Agree 101%!!!
Banjo player walks into a barre.
Ну, баррэ, это не очень интересно.
Даже малое баррэ.
А вот когда, может быть, Фиби дойдёт до ренессансной лютни, то выяснится, что у левой руки целых три основных постановки. И они часто чередуются с бешеной скоростью...)))
😂😂
This joke struck a chord with me
Not sure i got the joke , but i won't fret about it.
This is a string of really bad jokes
"What if there's a self-destruct button... I dunno, it's a guitar. Anything could happen!" 🤣
Phoebe for a great banjo player you make a great guitarist. You will nail it in no time at all. There are no rules. Play the guitar the way that is comfortable for you. I like the chord that sounds in that tuning when you play the D chord pattern.
YES !!!!! YES !!!!! Phoebe has a new avenue to explore,......and in only minutes, she's doin' GREAT !!!
An excellent gift has found its new home. Blessings and Shalom in Him
I'm a 69 year old guy who's played guitar since I was a teenager and I've never heard of Claw hammer guitar! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Its so fun to watch you discover that you are an instant guitar player! You are playing the guitar better than most people do after practicing for years.
Thanks
“Skid marks on my clawhammer nail” could be the title of a new composition? ha ha. You pick it up so fast, good job. Love the chickens.
Nothing can stop you.Expanding the "Wall of sound" instruments, you'll be able to play, record loops, play them loops back and accompany yourself into a universe of sound( esp if you use reverb)
Fabolous sound acoustically so who needs more ,want the pure emotion to be heard. The years of practice shine thru
Yessss!!!! This!! You're on the right track! What a glorious sound!!
You're such a ray of sunshine! Congrats on the guitar. Yamaha makes great instruments and you're catching on very fast. I love your banjo playing, but look forward to more clawhammer guitar, with your cheerful attitude!
I don't see much homework getting done anytime soon!
Your ability to adapt to playing guitar so quickly is amazing; a new obsession has emerged...

I can't wait to see Phoebe give a 12 string guitar a turn! Excellent work as always ❤ Keep up the amazing content, I hope this channel never changes (other than growing a huge following)
Clawhammer guitar is so much fun!! It just feels different at first. I can’t wait to hear you in a few weeks. you are killing it already.

Wow,I am amazed by how quickly you got into playing the guitar so well.

Have fun, lady!
Yamaha is a great acoustic guitar for beginners. They sound good and don’t cost a fortune. I’m excited to hear what you’ll do with it!
And 3/4 are great even for adults if like me you're not so tall! 🙂
Complicated electronics aside, the knobs are as follows:
normal Volume (makes amp louder or quieter), Gain (adds pre-amp volume, this will make it louder but will distort the tone, think rock an roll electric guitar. you probably don't want that sound on acoustic), Drive select button (changes the channel of the amp from the normal clean to the overdriven (again think rock and roll, probably stick to clean), Drive volume (changes the volume while in the drive channel), 3-band EQ (treble, middle, bass. adds/subtracts treble middle bass.) All in all a great little amp to learn on for acoustic or electric.
also i say probably for the drive stuff because music is subjective, if you press a button or turn a knob and it sounds good then you're doing it right. Doesn't matter if that's the intended use.
I smiled while watching you experiment. Sounds great, already!
You are a fantastic musician!😊
WOW you learn quick! Hope to hear more in the future.. :)
Lovely sounding guitar, Ms Phoebe! I like the chickens!
Nice unboxing Phoebe. You deserve this. Enjoy!
OH, Phoebe, 10:36 poked a little Boston in there and then a little CCR i'm impressed.😊
You will get in time
thats a really pretty guitar, matching the again GREAT SHIRT.
Congrats on getting your new cool guitar, Phoebe! Looks like you are having a wonderful time playing and learning to play it the way you like.
You're rockin that guitar right away.
Phoebe, I think you did pretty good for just getting a new guitar an playing it .
I like the buzzing with the rhythm your doing just before 22:00 it may not be as clean but at least on the speaker I'm listening to now I don't hear the bass note as much but that buzz adds a percussive element. the guitar is a great new tool in your lexicon. keep it up

Fun... and that is a little guitar!
OMG - that sounds so good, and yes, it is IN TUNE and I'm glad it's so easy to tune like that! Love the sound!
sounded wonderful, have a great weekend!
The chickens were worried about your scissor-y. Exponential ClawThumbs-Up...
pull on the strings for the first time tuning to stretch them so they stay in tune. So, cool someone sent you a new guitar

Mark Knopfler.

Good stuff, Phoebe, don't ever stop in your exploration of new directions in sound, I see a bright future for you. I can hear it too!
You are 'The Entertainer', and I bet Yamaha have just had a serious bump in their guitar sales🙃.
Thank you :)

It's great to see your confusion how this is familiar but somehow very different. 🤣
Phoebe, just go to Molly's show. I have never not gotten into a sold out show. Never paid more than list price. Someone will have bought tickets for a friend that didn't show up. I've seen Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris that way. Molly is worth seeing live. Give it a try.
Now that was a cool one!
You're moving right along. You're so natural. I'm waiting for you to go on tour with Billy Strings! 🪕🎉😸
Now you need a clawhammer guitar wah-wah pedal!😉
You are an absolute natural! Fear not the extra strings, they are like extra friends, and who couldn't use that? :)
I suggest you try fretting the top two strings to get your bass notes, though it's a bit of a departure from the banjo. Print a sheet of open G guitar chords, and you'll have the fingering for every chord.
If you find the strings a little tough, try a thinner set... I believe your guitar comes with .12's, which is on the heavy side. Factory strings never sound great anyway :)
What a REALLY nice thing, for someone to buy that for you,....absolutely AWESOME !!! AND,.....money well spent..... on such a talent as yours !!!
Phoebe playing a guitar and not wearing a hat!!! I thought I was on the wrong channel for a second there... 😀
Keith Richards was famous for plaing in g but removed the lowest string.
It opened a unique door inspiring him to write some of the finest Rockanrole intro riffs for the Rolling stones
I just ordered a gibson les Paul junior. Have fun!
Fantastic to see your gifted today guitar. I’m interested in hearing the hammer guitar. It was really cool when you did the last time. Yamaha should be paying you for doing a commercial.
I love watching your videos I play clawhammer banjo like grandpa Jones but without the drop thumb 👍 😂
Really impressive! X
I wear the same hat but mine has my logo, great taste👏👏
I think your conversion is going quite well.
There are workarounds but just putting your body between the speaker and the instrument is good enough.
nice guitar great sound with a little pratice you will as good as you are on the banjo
Cool! Never stop learning.
If you're going to play in open tunings you need to get a slide, instant swamp blues and so much fun. Also, I find the banjo to be the least ergonomic instrument I play, the round body doesn't balance on your knee like a guitar, and it's hell on my upper back and neck.
This is gonna be fun
Fantastic!
