Basic question about the composition: Since the theme is just La Folia, which numerous Baroque wrote around, what makes this a variation on Handel's version rather than, say, Corelli's? I guess it uses Handel's Sarabande in some specific ways?
They play the notes Haendel wrote - for his Sarabande from the Keyboard Suite in D minor HWV 437. Corelli uses different notes in the melody of his folia and different variations (many more) - I am sure if they had decided to play them they would have called it Corelli's, and if they had decided to do Lully's Folies d'espagne they would have called it that! >__
