    I live in an apartment and all I am able to have is a container garden. But my container garden yields some incredible amounts of produce. I eat what I can fresh and then dehydrate and store a lot. I still have dehydrated peppers from last year. I love throwing them into soups for extra flavor. After graduate school I will be on the hunt for some land. I don't need a ton. Three acres would be great. I can finally start a small farm. Thank you for sharing your homestead!

    What a wonderful video. Can you just imagine if everybody in your neighborhood did that and how much food that everybody would produce for their families. it's amazing how much you can produce in such a small area and yours looks absolutely beautiful!

      That is so awesome! I will be starting a New garden on my new homestead this year, hoping for one possibly about the size of yours but will probably be smaller because I'm starting out. Even though I have 73 acres not all of it is usable because it's a mountain so this was extremely informative and beautiful

    Don’t wait for large plots of land! You don’t need it! I’m on 1/3 acre now and we are starting our homestead. Grow vertically, use the front yard, get a few chicks! She did this beautifully! Following for more inspo 🙏🏼 If everyone did this we would have an overflow of abundance for ourselves and our communities

    The key message in this video is the absolutely critical point about growing *flowers* in your veggie garden. I grew borage and had a massive crop of tomatoes this year. It makes a huge difference. Pick the best pollinator attractors - borage, zinnias, herbs in flower (oregano, thyme, basil) catmint, etc etc. They're worth the space they take up, many times over.

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely! The food production has increased even though I gave some beds away to flowers bc it brought it more pollinators

    • @HomesteadDreaming
      @HomesteadDreaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And I'm really lucky to have an urban bee keeper just a couple blocks away

    • @elizabetharrowood4015

      Everytime I plant borage in my garden, I have less pests and my plants are stronger. I plant it always!

    • @sprigssprouts6786

    • @dellawheeler1034
      @dellawheeler1034 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      honestly in my opinion living in an area with HOA is still like renting because they control so much of what you can do on your land that you pay for, i dont know about your area but we bought a house in what our area considers "suburban" so our layout is alot like this with neighbors on both sides but no HOA to deal with. It's been so much better and honestly would probably stay in violation all the time if we had HOA LoL side not though in our area no chickens unless its under a certain number of chickens and certain breads and they have to be fenced... so your still going to run into some restrictions depending on your town/city

    Our family just started on our own journey to healthier living, and that includes attempting some homesteading principles. We live on an acre, but more than half of it is forested, so we're only using a small portion right now. We literally just planted our first ever fall garden today. We're looking forward to following your videos and learning as much as we can.

      @@HomesteadDreaming Surprisingly well for our first attempt. Chard grew really well once the temps got cool enough to ward away the bugs. We ate lots of broccoli, but left some in too long and the weather got to them, so we passed them along to the rabbit. We still have collards, brussel sprouts, and cabbage in the ground. We'll probably harvest those next week and allow the ground to rest a bit before we put our spring garden in.

    This is AWESOME!!!! Way to go guys! Making the best of what you have! We are doing the same in our town home too but we literally have like no yard so thankfully my husbands boss lets him keep our ladies at the chicken coop behind their office where they used to keep chickens! We are so fortunate for that! New subscriber here by the way! Hello 😁

    I have the same problem with my apple trees in the front yard. No one stole my trees but everyone wants free apples. Even had a lady from the gated community in back of us bicycle by my house and tried to pick fruit before I caught her. I also had a landscape company park their truck behind my house and picked my peach tree bare.

      Dang! I have survailence cameras now so if I ever notice something I have it on camera. I'd press charges against the landscaping company.

      That is how it is in Europe. Every house has a huge vegetable garden and a fruit orchard. Very small patches of useless grass, though.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I have less than 1 acre and I really needed to see this space. I have a massive 1000sq ft backyard and a 500sq ft front yard. I just cleaned up an evesment for a mini orchard.

    Love it! The place I am looking at to live the HOA won't allow chickens and that really sucks. I will continue to watch and see what you do with your small plot of land.

    It just goes to show that you do not need 10+ acres to live off your land! My only concern with using the front yard is just safety, when times get tough I wouldn't want people trespassing to get my food! Stay safe and happy growing 🌿
