That guinea pig was a nice addition to the video. I have a ferret myself but have owned many guinea pigs before. I also purchased a Boyd's Stock for my .223 Savage Axis because the polymer stock would cause the magazine to pop out when I fired my gun. What probably caused this was flex from the recoil. Anyway the Boyd's Stock worked wonders, made my gun shoot better. Now I'm thinking of getting the Pro Varmint stock for a more tactical feel.
The magazine was popping out when firing because you didn’t pop it in good I was having the same problem when I first got the gun I just give the extra tap tap and I will stay
I had a Savage Axis in 243. I actually converted three magazines to extended round magazines. The franken mags functioned fine but Savage is so rigid with their proprietary parts that I got very frustrated and switched to Mossberg. Now I don't have to bung up several magazines to get and extended round box magazine because the Mossberg MVP (Mossberg Varmint Predator) uses standard USGI magazines. I had a lot of 243 ammo so I choose the Mossberg Patriot SS marine Cera Kote with the laminate stock. It has DBM system and the magazines were designed to be stacked. I stacked two, bonded them with JB Weld for plastic. I used the same follower and spring. Two 5 round magazines produced 1 12 round magazine that feeds flawlessly.
the worst that would happen is a little slide bite but it would be ok. basically putting pressure on the slide would stop the gun from re-chambering (failure to feed). the shooter would still get one round off which is dangerous because the stray bullet may hit someone. it is an effective way to disable the gunman temporarily. just dont put your hand in front or behind the slide. the extra pressure stops the slide from going far enough to re-chamber
I love the looks of Boyds stocks. But I have an Axis II XP. The Axis II is an Axis with an Accu - Trigger and a decent Weaver scope. According to Savage both the the Axis and the Axis II both use the same stock. I called Boyds, they said if the Axis II is not on the list the Boyds stock will not work. I called back hoping to get someone more interested in selling a stock with no luck. If anyone out there has tried a Boyds stock on an Axis II please tell me about your experience.
I bought a savage stock for an Axis and is did not fit. The action will bolt in but the magazine will not engage into the well. There's no place for the rear of the mag to click in. I contacted Boyds and they told me to refer back to the retailer that I bought the stock from since they did not sell it directly to me. That will be bad customer experience #2 with Boyds. (and my last) I'm stuck with the stock and would love to make it work since it's a rubberized coating.
I have this exact same stock. Your accuracy will greatly improve. You will probably need to shim your mag catch . Open up the gr rigger hole just a tad.
I don't blame you, sometimes i bore myself to sleep! It's a tad heavier in the front but I like that, the grip is smooth because i didn't choose the upgraded model with texturing.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered the exact same stock for my savage axis 223. in the forest camo. And also purchased a pepper colored for my Mossberg 100 atr 270. They look like some sweet looking stalks, and mine should be in tomorrow. I might do a video but I'm not sure yet.
seriously get some fluorescent red model paint to mark the fire position on the safety the visual contrast is a major factor. Don't want the piggies benefactor to not be around to keep them in carrots (try green grapes some time)
Thanks for the review. I hope to get one in the same color and style whenever they get them back in stock. I can't believe its only $99 for this stock.
Where did you order that new bolt knob from and how much was it ? one of the only things that bother me about my axis is that my bolt knob barely grazes my scope when i work my bolt because the degrees is so high for those rifles.. Does your new knob still do that or does it miss now ?
beautiful stock! Can you share where you purchased that extended magazine? I have a model 10 FLCP-K in .308 and would love to fit it with one of these stocks. Would also like to pick up one for my model 12 varmint in .22-250. Thanks for sharing with us.
i didn't say it didn't clear i just said it didn't line up, nice stock and gun though, and the original bolt is a POS that hit most scopes anyway, so its better that you replaced it, idk if i like the looks of it though
yeah, theres quite a few different options as far as bolt handles if this style isnt your cup of tea. If I could only make 1 change to the stock rifle, it would be getting one of the boyds stocks. the handle is nice but it severely needed a trigger job. I heard that the new ones have the accutrigger.
I just recieved this identical stock for my savage 110, beautiful stock, but was worried that there were no pillar beds... Any concerns with accuracy/ durability over time without installing pillars and, or glass bedding?
Where did you get that magazine and where can I get one?? I looked for one that would fit my axis before I sold it, I really didn't like that crap mag that came with it.
I have this same rifle. Where did you get the bolt handle? Did you have to get it threaded somewhere? I want one. Also, I don't have the extended box magazine for it, I have the one that sits flush (I live in CA.) Will it still fit with that Boyd's wood stock?
gunsandpigs i just got my bolt handle its awesome, getting my tacticool stock tomorrow and timney trigger wednesday and my savage will be perfect. till i can buy a better scope to help look further out. thanks for the info on finding the handle just need a 10 round mag
hi, iv got the same savage axis in 308WIN too, im french and i dont understand in boyds site, what the difference in thumbole model with detachable box mag long or short i need ? I THINK LONG for 308 ?
hey bud do you have any videos of your grouping i went shooting sunday and my axis is giving me horrible groups just wanna see other axis onwers grouping thanks..oh i found a guy that makes 10round mags for the axis
sorry, I dont make those types of videos because i use my phone to record. but i dont have any issues with my groups. make sure that your barrel isnt rubbing on the stock & the type of ammo you use is also a factor
i haven't checked to see if it is rubbing on my boyds stock and i was using match grade ammo winchester and i shot hornady vmax ammo i think it might be my optics or the barrel heating up
gunsandpigs Hullo Colleague, I have always a doubt regarding the thikness of the barrel: sporter or heavy? Truly does the heating of the barrel affect so much the consistency on the target? For example, what do you suggest for the prairie dogs? Many thanks.
I bought a axis in .308 about a year ago and its not the most accurate rifle iv'e ever shot. I get 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds. i figure its due to the play between the rifle and the stock. im now looking into a boyds stock but with the axis being between long and short action, did you get the short action stock?
Plastic stocks are notorious for skewing accuracy due to inherent flex in them. A properly bedded wooden or metal stock (yes metal) are the standards used in competition shooting because of this.
Hey i ordered 2 new gun stocks from here over a week ago and they haven't said they have been shipped got any ideas on what to do? I've tried calling them and emailing them they never return
What range are you shooting this currently? Had an trade offer for one of these and wondering how well the Boyd's stock will work for long-distance target shooting.
gunsandpigs That is unfortunate. Looks like I won't be getting one right now after all. I would definitely be curious to see how these stocks improve the long-range shooting capabilities past 500 yards.
if you want to improve long range shooting for the axis or any bolt rifle get a timney trigger, match ammo, quality bipod, free floated stock, & a quality scope/knowledge. Plus work on your breathing & trigger control. I don't know of any stock that will improve your shooting. The boyds stock improves durability, comfort, looks a billion times nicer
I bought a Boyd's stock for my Ruger American, bad idea! It came to me scratched from the hardware bag that was in the box. I called Boyd's and said they can swap it out but I have to pay the shipping back to them. So I mailed it, 2 weeks goes by and no response. The very next day my credit card company called me back to tell me Boyd's gave me a full refund plus shipping. So buyer beware of this company!

+Reaper1911gr awesome to hear!!! & thanks
The magazine was popping out when firing because you didn’t pop it in good I was having the same problem when I first got the gun I just give the extra tap tap and I will stay
Ordered a Boyd’s spike camp for mine and was also very happy , they do now include the red dot for the safety !
I had a Savage Axis in 243. I actually converted three magazines to extended round magazines. I have the same stock on my axis .223. Looks good and very comfortable to hold and shoot. Enjoy your new stock, good video.
You might consider a dot of bright red or orange nail polish behind the safety to let you know it's status.
the worst that would happen is a little slide bite but it would be ok. basically putting pressure on the slide would stop the gun from re-chambering (failure to feed). the shooter would still get one round off which is dangerous because the stray bullet may hit someone. it is an effective way to disable the gunman temporarily. just dont put your hand in front or behind the slide. the extra pressure stops the slide from going far enough to re-chamber

I just got a damn stock from them and it doesn't fit. Got a email that is does. But doesn't. I repeat it doesn't. Fml
I bought a savage stock for an Axis and is did not fit.

I have a Savage Axis II in 300 Blackout - where did you get your bottom metal for your Boyds/Savage video? Please let me know - I am a new subscriber
How is the accuracy from the Axis II 300 black? I want one so bad. Thanks
How is the accuracy from the Accuracy from the Axis II?
Hey Bud, I ordered the Boyds Stock and the bolt handle, where did you get that mag from. I believe it comes with 4 round mag.
Hi Quickz, I got the mag from DK Rat but he no longer makes them. The bolt handle came from ebay.
Can always tell a newbee when the scope is 10 inches off the barrel!😂😂
Thanks for the post, I ordered one of those knobs right after watching!
i love mine!
seriously get some fluorescent red model paint to mark the fire position on the safety the visual contrast is a major factor.
Don't want the piggies benefactor to not be around to keep them in carrots (try green grapes some time)
Scott Schoemann will do, thanks for the tip
Looks really nice where did you get the bolt handle?
Nice stock and guinea pig! Is the reach to the trigger really long?
Thanks! The reach feels great for me, I'm 6'2 tho
Best looking axis ive seen so far!
brett brandenburg Thank you sir
Thanks for the review. I hope to get one in the same color and style whenever they get them back in stock. I can't believe its only $99 for this stock.
Thanks Glen! Give them a call tomorrow, they may be in stock even though the website shows otherwise
where did you get the box magazine upgrade
Where did you order that new bolt knob from and how much was it ? one of the only things that bother me about my axis is that my bolt knob barely grazes my scope when i work my bolt because the degrees is so high for those rifles.. Does your new knob still do that or does it miss now ?
Looks great! Best workbench ever!
Nice gun man.thinking bout get that stock for mine also not sure yet.
Do it! Do it now!
jk, its great. see if any of your local gun stores have a boyds stock on one of their rifles. you'll see how quality it feels.
Do you know the difference in between white stock and the factory Walnut stock.
Definitely gotta get me the extension for the bolt arm
Awesome drop in upgrade! love it! Thanks for the vid.
James K. My pleasure sir!
*pauses video*
*goes to comments*
Now that stock looks AMAZING!!!
*goes back to video*
lol! thanks
gunsandpigs Can you please put a link to the website where you got the stock in the description??
i got it at boyds gunstocks
Jacob Lord i put the link. it always shows out of stock, call them to verify availability
How does one go about getting a magazine like yours or using an AR-15 magazine? I've got the .223 Axis.
they're not made anymore
gunsandpigs is this a factory mag or a snyder magazine? snydermags.com/index.html
neither, it was built by a DK Rat, but he no longer makes them because he lives in Colorado
$90 for one magazine at Snyder. Ridiculous!
Where did you get that Mag? I have a 7.08 that is very much the same as the .308 in size.
Ok where did you get that mag from doe?
Hey man... Great job. Been looking for after market stock. The composite one sucks...
Thanks, its sooooo much better
Just looked Boyd's up. Fair price... I didn't hear how much...and where to get the bolt extension. Only one...I could find is for the 700
on ebay, i believe its by southern ordanance. but can just type in "savage axis bolt handle"
What caliber and how much and where did u get it bc im looking for an axis .243
nice, where did you get your extended magazine and bolt handle?
beautiful stock! Can you share where you purchased that extended magazine? I have a model 10 FLCP-K in .308 and would love to fit it with one of these stocks. Would also like to pick up one for my model 12 varmint in .22-250. Thanks for sharing with us.
they're not made anymore
is it made for the axis? the ones I found on ebay all are for the 110 series. They will fit but not work properly from what I've researched. Thanks
I put a link in the description
except your aftermarket bolt handle doesn't line up correctly with the groove in the stock
i have no issues
i didn't say it didn't clear i just said it didn't line up, nice stock and gun though, and the original bolt is a POS that hit most scopes anyway, so its better that you replaced it, idk if i like the looks of it though

not as yet
where did you get the extended mag?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
not made anymore
ou can still get them on Ebay for around $100
Mine also has the red dot for fire
Where did you get that magazine and where can I get one?? I looked for one that would fit my axis before I sold it, I really didn't like that crap mag that came with it.
not available anymore
Nice. I may have to see about uprading to one of these stocks.
Thanks for the vid.
Donnie D
my pleasure sir
Where did you get the bolt handle from on your axis? I'm having clearance issuses with my scope. It looks like your's is longer and might work.
i put the link in the description. thanks for watching
thank you I'm looking into getting that stock and bolt hand
Wgere did u get a magazine for your axis?!
sweet video thanks for the bolt handle link man and stock
where did you get your bolt handle
I'm more curious about that magazine
I have this same rifle. Where did you get the bolt handle? Did you have to get it threaded somewhere? I want one.
Also, I don't have the extended box magazine for it, I have the one that sits flush (I live in CA.) Will it still fit with that Boyd's wood stock?
Matthew Gray the link for the handles is in the description, the mags work good in the stock
do you have any video on how you put that new bolt handle on
I do not. You just screw it on. I'd recommend using loctite as well
gunsandpigs i just got my bolt handle its awesome, getting my tacticool stock tomorrow and timney trigger wednesday and my savage will be perfect. till i can buy a better scope to help look further out. thanks for the info on finding the handle just need a 10 round mag
great to hear!!! if you find someone selling them LET ME KNOW!!!
How did you get a extended detachable magazine for that axis?
***** the guy no longer makes them. someone else does but I havent tried them out www.snydermags.com/products.html
Thanks!, boyds did a good job
hi, iv got the same savage axis in 308WIN too, im french and i dont understand in boyds site, what the difference in thumbole model with detachable box mag long or short i need ? I THINK LONG for 308 ?
308 is short action
ok thank's a lot
hey bud do you have any videos of your grouping i went shooting sunday and my axis is giving me horrible groups just wanna see other axis onwers grouping thanks..oh i found a guy that makes 10round mags for the axis
sorry, I dont make those types of videos because i use my phone to record. but i dont have any issues with my groups. make sure that your barrel isnt rubbing on the stock & the type of ammo you use is also a factor
i haven't checked to see if it is rubbing on my boyds stock and i was using match grade ammo winchester and i shot hornady vmax ammo i think it might be my optics or the barrel heating up
gunsandpigs what kind of muzzle brake is that? Is that the standard barrel you threaded? How well does the brake work?
it's the YHM 3080-ma. I worked great
gunsandpigs Your axis is the standard first gen not the axis 2 or SR right?
How to order😅
did you put that weaver rail on that or did it come like that from the factory?
i put it on. its a 20 moa rail from egw. i decided to go with low mount rings instead of the larue mount due to high shots
Nice. Im thinking about getting an axis for the low cost but great shootability
Awesome stock! Could you please check out my savage axis 308 build that I just did and let me know what you think of it thanks!
We’re did u get the mag
Very nice! Simple installation too.
should have put the magazine conversion kit on it.
does the stock feel hollowed out or is it fully made of wood ? because my orginal savage broke it was hollowed out now im looking at this
no
What magazine are you using?
What caliber do you have there? The stock is beautiful.
308
Absolutely a fantastic weapon, please: is that an heavy barrel?
no, its just the factory thin barrel. the axis is an "economical" rifle.
gunsandpigs
Hullo Colleague,
I have always a doubt regarding the thikness of the barrel: sporter or heavy?
Truly does the heating of the barrel affect so much the consistency on the target? For example, what do you suggest for the prairie dogs?
Many thanks.
some ppl swear by heavy barrels, i've havent been able to tell any significant difference
gunsandpigs
Thank you
I bought a axis in .308 about a year ago and its not the most accurate rifle iv'e ever shot. I get 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds. i figure its due to the play between the rifle and the stock. im now looking into a boyds stock but with the axis being between long and short action, did you get the short action stock?
Alex Wix yes, it's a short action stock. I also did a trigger job on mine
did you get a new trigger or just modify the original?
Alex Wix I just modified it. It's really nice now
Plastic stocks are notorious for skewing accuracy due to inherent flex in them. A properly bedded wooden or metal stock (yes metal) are the standards used in competition shooting because of this.
i agree Scott
did the scope base come with the gun ?
it came with one but i bought this one seperate
How did you get this hi capacity magazine? Mine comes with a 4 round one.
its an aftermarket magazine made with an origional mag welded to a g3 mag to make it hold 10 rounds. there over 100 dollars a peice.
Your mount is backwards
yes
Please let me know where you got that bolt handle
i put the link in the description. thanks for watching
where did you get your bolt handle from or did you mod the stock one?
I got it on ebay
Hey i ordered 2 new gun stocks from here over a week ago and they haven't said they have been shipped got any ideas on what to do? I've tried calling them and emailing them they never return
Matt Leonard I never had a problem contacting them. I'd probably just call again or see if they have other numbers on their website
Okay thanks for the advice
was that a muzzle brake?
yes
Lol.....why is your scope mounted so high!?
sanoshot :( cause I can't find a lower rail & I love my 1 piece QD mount
what bolt is that on the axis?
What range are you shooting this currently? Had an trade offer for one of these and wondering how well the Boyd's stock will work for long-distance target shooting.
fushion tactical in forney tx. the stock is great
gunsandpigs Sorry for the confusion, what I was asking was the range-distance rather than the place you are going to.
currently 100yds, but they're finishing up their 300yd range. no 1000+yd ranges here :(
gunsandpigs That is unfortunate.
I called Boyd's and they told me if I wanted another stock I will have to pay the shipping again, and if I wanted a refund it was a 20 percent restocking fee! I told the it wasn't going to happen. I called my credit card company and disputed the charge and explain to them in detail about the whole transaction for their report. The very next day my credit card company called me back to tell me Boyd's gave me a full refund plus shipping. So buyer beware of this company!
What was the magazine clip that you used?
it was custom made by a guy
How do i get one
what muzzle brake is that, and how much was it?
yhm 3080-ma muzzle brake w a 5/8x24 thread
theres one on ebay right now for $65. i just gave mine away in a youtube contest
yes, they both do
whats the advantage of the longer bolt handle?
the angle helps avoid bumping into certain optics & the handle is bigger so its easier to grab and manipulate. at least it is for me
If you know anything about physics, the longer a lever(bolt in this case) is, the less force you will have to apply to move whatever is on the opposing side...
Hi, why did you upgrade your stock? Because of the recoil?
nope, because it felt cheap & would flex a lot
they dont make stocks for leftys :/
thats lame, sorry
What size Allen key for the screws?
I believe it's a 1/4 hex
Pigsnguns Thanks!!
Where did u find the magazine
funckycolemedina99 custom made but a company called snyder magazines makes them too
Is it a good stock? Have you seen any cracks or anything like that?
ghost_squad_airsoft_ great stock, no problems
has anyone tried the boyds stock that has the 10 round box mag upgrade?
Merica Eagle I'll be getting mine in a month or so. If I remember, I'll let you know how it goes.
where did you get the mag upgrade?
Awsome Stock, Love to get one of these rifle's just one thing man Muzzle Awareness on the Guinea Pig.
lol, yessir!
where did u get the magazine for it and will it fit right in or do u have to adjust the stock a little ?
they're not made anymore
is that a jack russel terrier
no
Where did u get the bolt handle
ebay
gunsandpigs
For how much do u know
gunsandpigs
For how much do u know
Honestly I dont remember, but there's a link in the description. $40-$50 I think
What bolt is that on your axis?
One i found on ebay. i think the link is in the description
Btw were u get that mag
I got the mag from DK Rat but he no longer makes them
Oh well I'm going to keep looking for an extended mag
me too sir, me too :(
Who put a mag in a gun with live rounds in it?????????
Cyril Butt I think it's a job for scooby doo
What kind of bolt handle do u got on that savage I want to get one for my gun
Noah Totzke found it on eBay I think
Oh if only they made mag conversions for the axis
that would be nice
Hopefully someone will see my comment and make a AI or Pmag conversion..
gunsandpigs Also, did you install that bolt knob yourself or did you have a gunsmith do it?
myself, it was very easy!
thanks!!!!!!
How much does the stock weight?
idk, but it is heavier than the factory stock
thank you
Where is that mag from?
It was built by a DK Rat, but he no longer makes them because he lives in Colorad
Will this fit a savage axis xp ?
i dont think so
Yes it will, the XP just means it came with a scope mounted from the factory.
good to know, thanks clint
Yea I figured that out the other day
Looks great
Thanks
Looks nice.
thanks
